Hey guys great review. Im also a big fan of Southern Witchcraft. I own a couple of there sets and this one is on my wishlist. Haven't been able to get it. Its sold out ob all the sites i ordered from.
The first time I heard about SW it was all "oooh, beware the scents, they are weird", "you probably won't like them", "NO blind buys!", "no, can't stand them" and so on... So I ordered samples... now, I know there is a big discussion about how one could and should not draw conclusions from samples. They can be dehydrated, not the same quality as the actual soaps, the scents may be slightly off... you must have heard the arguments. Apart from Pomona (which has been discontinued) and Boonana (not available as a sample at the time)... I loved each and every one I got! The vegan base is also so good! I think my favourites so far are Desairology, Necromantic, Lycanthropy (such a shame they have discontinued it!) and Labyrinth. And Autumn Ash is a superb Fall/Winter soap! Yes, big SW fan here, from the concept, to the vibe, to the presentation and of course, the product properties. Looking forward to seeing what they come up with in the future.
YAAAASS!!! WE COULD NOT AGREE MORE!!! Southern Witchcrafts seems to just capture the essence of everything fun and artistic about the shaving soap world! We find their scents absolutely beguiling, starting with Autumn Ash for us, which we just bought the EDP for!!! ($21??? YUP!!) And we just shot Delta V from Declaration Grooming which shared a HUGE vibe with Desairology I thought! Thanks for being here my friend!!! :) (Check out Gothorum Tonstrina from TRC! It's a DUSTY BARBERSHOP and a SW exclusive!)
@@TheBarbershopDuet $21 for an EDP? That's a STEAL! Unfortunately, only one shop in Europe stocks SW (and I have not seen them restock in a while...) so getting our hands on them is not easy. Hopefully more stores will bring them. I have seen a couple of reviews of Gothorum... DUSTY BARBERSHOP? ALL OF MY YAAASSS!
After spending some time with this WONDERFUL scent... contrary to what you said I think it is a bit dusty (powdery, rather... cottony? They do use cotton in orifices etc... the human body continues to do its own thing even after death), but you are right: How do say something is clean, without saying it? The musk helps here for sure. Also the "burnt" ingredients? Very subtle, but fire and smoke used to be tools for sterilisation. Definitely dark, but because of its coolness, its... distance right? It is not a warm barbershop scent, despite the vanilla and sandalwood. There is a spooky freshness, totally fitting the name of the soap. It could be due to the lavender and sage in it. What do you usually find in barbershop soaps? Eucalyptus, basil, mint... well, lavender, sage and vanilla can come together really well, but do not go down the warm feel road... there is no warmth in a mortuary after all, is there? There may be respect, compassion, sadness, empathy, care. But very little warmth. There is a serenity... due to the gardenia perhaps? As for that leathery scent... I picked up on it too! But, like you said, it is special kind of leather. Not barbershop chair leather, not strop leather... dare I say... skin? Clean, but cool skin. Οr, just like Sarah said, the smell of a person that looks inviting, but makes you feel uneasy. There's a caveat, as Marcus said. Desairology is SUCH a clever creation. Then again, so is almost every offering in the SW range (there are 1-2 that I do not really bond with), but there are so many others that blow my mind!
Boy, is there a lot of truth to unpack here!!! Thank you for your comment!!! Yes, we do use cotton bunting in the orifices, so YES, and indeed, no warmth, as we usually don't know the family, so warmth would have to be manufactured and therefore a bit fake, but INDEED, compassion, respect, and empathy! I'm SHOOK at how similar this scent is to our cosmetology room! TOTALLY agree with the clean but cool skin!!! Thank you for being here my friend! :) We're so glad to have you in the barbershop! Have we covered all of your favorite SW's yet?
@@TheBarbershopDuet happy to be able to join you in your explorations! Yes, you have covered all my favourite SW's (SUCH as shame they have discontinued Lycanthropy... I only ever managed to get a sample of it) except Labyrinth and Valley of Ashes. These sit at very different ends of the scent spectrum, but are equally intriguing and wonderful (ok... admittedly "Valley" is an acquired taste). Unfortunately only one shop in Europe stocks them and not too often. Hopefully they will grow in the future and be able to penetrate the european market more fully.
@@TheBarbershopDuet I was raised around pro cosmetics, never used any, but the smells always intrigued me. I am also in the medical field, so SW samples are on my short list, especially Desairology.
It IS a scent category in the shaving soap world! Based on a fougere, it can include notes of powder, bergamot, and commonly patchouli! But… there are NO rules as to what folks call a barbershop!!
As a first time buyer, just purchased Desairology and Boonana today. Are SW soaps easy to lather for beginner shavers? Do you have a bowl lathering video?
HEY BUDDY!! Welcome to the family!!! :) It's a SUPER easy lather to build! You know... watch me build the lather on our Road Trippin' episode! I explain our latest discoveries! :) Let us know if you have any other questions, and join our DISCORD! The Whiff Pack is SUPER NICE and ready to help!
@@TheBarbershopDuet Thank you for the warm welcome ;) Can you please review Boonana from SW? What are some other Soaps that are easy to lather for Beginners with strong fragrance?
OOOOO! :) What kind of scents are your favorites? We live in a GOLDEN ERA where MOST bases we feature on our show work incredibly well! :) I like strong scents too! We have a full day of Southern Witchcrafts coming up, but alas, we don't cover BooNana YET! We'll put it on our list!
@@TheBarbershopDuet Barrister and Mann “Vespers” and “Lavanille” are tied for #1 in My small collection (25)…ALL of the Southern Witchcrafts scents are very close runner-ups. Being a Huge Vetiver and Patchouli fan, I recently watched your review on Glastonbury and will add it to My collection as My first Stirling soap. What are your favorites from Stirling or SW?
OOOOO!!! I LOVE my Stirling Barbershop, Sharp Dressed Man, Pumpkin Spice, Christmas Eve, ALL their Gourmands like Iced Pineapple and Iced Coffee (wearing it now!), Lightish Red is the Ambercrombie and Fitch scent... oh so many! I think Autumn Ash and Carpathia are my favorite SW at the moment, along with Gothorum Tonstrina! :)
Hey my friend! Great to see you here! Thanks for watching, and we look at that one and it looks great! Picked it up for an episode in March! Stay tuned! :) Thanks for the recommendation!
You know you guys are costing me a fortune. Another one to add to my endless list of must have soaps. Great job you guys.

What does it mean to mix the "barber shop" with something else? What is the "barber shop"? A scent category?
