Keep in mind the medical conditions of that time so this child was castrated with no anesthesia, no pain medication, and probably not even in sanitary conditions. However, we must remember history was written by humans. Naturally there will be biases, misunderstandings, misinterpretations, misinformation, and so on. What might have happened back then might be entirely different from what we are taught now. It is always unwise to judge a person before knowing their full story.
