  • This is a video I have wanted to make for some time and finally made the time to do it. I am very pleased with the results for this first time project. This video is more of a demo on how I did it than a how to, but with the vast catalog of videos on how to make a flute on my UA-cam channel, you could certainly DIY this build. Here are a few to get you started:

    Hello Mr. Charlie from Starkville, Ms. Just wanted to say hello and let you know that I watch your videos as often as I can. By the way I am the guy that lived on Otter Pond Road up the road from you. Been in Mississippi for over 4 years now. I'm so glad you are doing well in the flute business. I will come see you when I have my 50th class reunion in 2024. Good to see you on the video.
    Have a good night.

    Beautiful. It reminds me of Boulder Opals which are opal with the rock and are very interesting to look at.

    I'd wondered about a wood/epoxy flute myself recently after seeing all the bowls and wood turnings with epoxy and wood on you tube, and recently been on a flute making binge. came out looking awesome by the way.

      BlueBearFlutes I have been making driftwood flutes and finding a good piece of driftwood isn’t easy. Usually they have cracks and splits. Perhaps the epoxy resin is a way to make more pieces usable.

    Beautiful result. Might be cool to pour the blank with a full 1/4 inch on each half, then join them with ca glue, wood on top and bottom, strip of resin sandwiched between. If you polished it before assembly on the inside, and on the outside afterwards, you could see inside the chamber as well.

    Beautiful work Charlie! What about an acrylic rod a little smaller than the bore standing vertically in a wood base with an LED in the bottom for a stand?....the rod will carry the light throughout it's length.

    Hey Charlie
    I have been thinking about resin and trying to decide if I could use it without making too much of a mess,
    that alone making a flute that will play at the end, still not game.
    Thank you, you have made me think again and you made that flute so well out of that less than great wood.
    Tom.

    Charlie, I notice this is a 6-hole flute. It is the Traditional 6-hole style? At the moment I’m trying to make a flute that will cleanly play the note that is one octave above the bottom hole.

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  4 роки тому +1

      You can play that note on a 5-hole flute by covering the middle 3 fingerings. Blow a little faster and it should come out.

    • @BrianTownsendFundy
      @BrianTownsendFundy 4 роки тому

      BlueBearFlutes On several flutes, I can easily get a note but it is always a semitones flat. For example, with an A flute I would get ACDEGA and instead of my higher note being a C it is a B. If I am just improvising the note sounds fine but I keep coming across songs where the upper note being played is the upper register C and the song just doesn’t sound right if I don’t play the right not there. So that is my current objective - to learn how to make a flute that plays that upper note properly.

    Ok, you lost me when you tried to glue epoxy with some wood glue! How is that going?
    Nice flute anyway, I use epoxy in my flute making and wanted to try that for a long time!

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  4 роки тому +1

      The Tightbond I use is more of an anything glue than a wood glue, though I did go back and seal it with super glue (ca). :)

    • @TommySoulier
      @TommySoulier 4 роки тому +1

      @@BlueBearFlutes Yes, I know Titebond 3 can be awesome... You just have to see how it glues woods that are almost impossible to glue!
      It's just that, usually, we say that epoxy should be glued with epoxy! So I was concerned on how it would hold through time.

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  4 роки тому

      @@TommySoulier hit it with ole trusty superglue! 😉 Thanks again for watching! We'll be uploading other videos on this project type, too.

    Be careful when processing, as this material enters your system, it will never come out of it.

      There are more toxic things that come out of the cell phone you watch this on that can potentially hurt you. If I can overcome them, I think I've got this.
