I have twice tried this as I mistakenly bought a bottle for the bar I was managing and it was a slow seller due to the price, but a few customers were upsold to it when "giving it large" to show off. Can't say I was blown away by it. I think the low proof waters down the depth and complexity.
You guys are great and it hurt to see Dillon bullied by your gold scores. Also, the synth levels sounded balanced to the regular audio...Dutch channeling his John Carpenter.
People pay over $170 for Weller 12 and it has a screw top for packaging. So be kind when talking value of the XO. 😅 Try the Paradis if you can...it’s def better than XO.
You hit the nail on the head. It's crazy that people are willing to shell out $99 for Weller special reserve too. And you look at something like this, or some of the other age stated sherry cask/bourbon cask scotch and it gives you perspective. One guy i know dropped $2000 for Pappy 20. I told him, why didn't you just get a Macallan 25 for 300 bucks less? No answer. Ridiculous. It took me about 4 years of looking to buy a pappy 20 a little over retail. Glad i didn't drop 2 grand on that.
I don´t know if cognac is supposed to be taken seriously. Especially the big lables like Hennessy. They are allowed to add sugar, caramel coloring and even Boise - which is adding more of woody character to the taste. It´s not worth the money at all. It´s just a cheap shit in a fancy bottle.

I tried Hennessy XO about 4yrs ago and seriously was shocked at how bitter the back end was...now I wasn't sure how long the bottle was up on shelf at this bar or how full the bottle was (possibly oxidized) but it was the worst XO Cognac I've tasted by Far...Remy Martin XO was great, Martell Cordon Bleu is better, Courvoisier XO was better, Torres 20yr is better, A.De Fussigny is better ...I will try again at a bar that has a Close to Full bottle and reexamine

Pearls before swine. If you think Hennessy XO is an 82/83 you shouldn't be allowed to drink anything more expensive than Budwiser. Dillon was right.

there's some great cognacs with serious age out there if you know what to look for...
and not for whisky type money neither
