The Wildhearts are brilliant and so is this album
This song and album should have a billion views every song and album. The Wildhearts are one of the most underrated bands on the planet
Love them, I used to listen to this album on my paper-round. I'm 43 now 🥲
I'm 43 and still listen to it on my paper round
Love The Wildhearts, love this song. Absolutely superb.
The Wildhearts were a top 3 band of mine when I was a teen in the 90s. What a back catalogue.
Mark?
The Wildhearts often throw in curve balls like that outro. It was a song they played hundreds of times live before it developed into the song you just listened to. If you don't like curve balls then you won't like the Wildhearts! I'm surprised to hear you like your music to be predictable? Great band !!
Thanks for reacting to this one. One of my favourite bands of all time. Very fair score too. With the ending feeling like a different song, the band do this a lot. Rather than a solo they'll often go into a riffarama. Definitely not necessary, but fun.The lead singer/lead guitarist Ginger often said he didnt like solos (he's changed his mind since), and there is one song on this album that has a long long solo and I believe is the last thing Mick Ronson ever recorded.
There's definitely elements of punk and metal and also pop. Their influences range from Metallica to the Beach Boys to the Ramones and Motorhead.
Anyway, rest of this album (which is their debut from 1993) is definitely worth a listen
Riff monsters!! Dont let the time signatures / curveball arrangements get you down... thats their signature sound. Thats what sets them apart. Its the perfect mashup of punk, metal, pop &... well everything else under the sun. Cannot recommend you digging deeper into them & lead singer Ginger Wildhearts back catalogue. One of the UKs most under rated songwriters. Legend!
Great to see the reaction.
Just goes to prove that music in general creates a space for conversation which can only be a good thing ..
I'm a longtime fan of The Wildhearts and it is amusing to see somebody trying to pick Gingers songs apart .
I don't know how or why Ginger does what he does but what I do know is that nothing has to fit in a box and everything has a reason for being there and sometimes maybe even no reason, it doesn't matter. I realise it's a first listen so I can't be overly critical of the review but if we dismantled the output of some of the recognised greats of rock n roll and questioned the relevance of some of the content of the tunes then, well, what would we have?
Ginger is a phenomenal tunesmith with harmony and riffs most writers would die for.
It's not always perfect for sure, sometimes it doesn't even float my boat, not often, but he and the band are so under valued it's almost criminal. They haven't helped themselves without a doubt and they've certainly done some bad business over the years, having their pockets picked by people who should be guiding them but honestly, your audience could do a whole lot worse than giving Ginger solo and The Wildhearts a listen, and all the other associated bands they've produced because there's some seriously good sounds that remain undiscovered by the music loving masses.
Opening line "life has teeth and bites the feeding open hand..."
'Don't feed it open-hand'.
I'm not overly familiar with The Wildhearts, the band, but I'm very familiar with Ginger Wildheart's solo stuff as well as Hey! Hello! which has some of the catchiest stuff I've never heard on radio. I've heard several of their songs, but this makes me want to hear some more. Definitely reminiscent of his other stuff, just with a harder edge. The guy has an awesome catalogue of music, that's for sure.
Some more Wildhearts songs that you should check out are 29 x The Pain, I Wanna Go Where The People Go, Vanilla Radio, Top Of The World, Suckerpunch, Geordie In Wonderland, The Miles Away Girl, My Baby Is A Headfuck, Just In Lust, The Jackson Whites, Sick Of Drugs, Red Light - Green Light, Stormy In The North - Karma In The South, So Into You, Turning America, Nothing Ever Changes BUt The Shoes, Splattermania, Greetings From Shitsville, Caffeine Bomb........
The revolution will be televised
Love the Wildhearts. Ginger is Awesome Their Debut Album is Absolutely Amazing. Earth vs the Wildhearts Sucker punch should have been the reaction song or the final appearance of Guitarist Mick Ronson on the Song My Baby Is a Headf&@k
Best band ever
Love this Band, personally they're not a Band that really do Guitar solos, like a more heavy Cheap Trick. "how many key changes do you want?", Ginger; "all of them". Check out Caprice one of their best numbers.
mate I've been a hearts fan since 93 and there music is top draw..... there my favourite band and fuck the sub divisions its just raw
Such a great band!
Love the Wildhearts, this is not the best track off the album, my personal favourites are The Miles Away Girl, Caffeine Bomb and Greetings from Shitsville, in fact most of the album just has a straight bar room groove that I always enjoy, Ginger can write a good catchy tune that sticks in your head
There is not a bad song on the album to be fair.
Good
Check out their new stuff Diagnosis or Dislocated are excellent
Where do you start with the Wildhearts? Should have been one of the planets biggest rock bands. Destroyed by drugs.
Ginger Wildheart one of the UKs most prolific songwriters. That nobody has heard of.
A genius. Earth Vs The Wildhearts from which this song is taken is a sensational Debut album.
You need to do more DH.
I agree 100%. The Wildhearts should have been massive. The sheer amount of talent in that band was insane. Ginger is one of the best songwriters in rock and metal.
I will say that I personally love their tendancy to throw out cool riffs at the end of their songs, but I grew up with Earth vs, so it's hard for me not to be biased!
Not much in the way of a guitar solos in the Wildhearts music, Ginger is a punk at heart.
7.6...nah.....8.5 minimum for me
