I Still Say they Should Have a Statuette Of LIZA in TIMES SQUARE OR IN SHERBET ALLEY , AN EVERY NEW YEARS EVE THE SHOULD PLAY NEW YORK NEW YORK IN HONOR OF LIZA , NOT THOSE CRAP SO CALLED ENTERTAIMENT , LMAF IF THEY THINK THATS ENTERTAINMENT , IT GETS WORST EVERY NEW YEARS EVE WITH THE CRAP ENTERTAINMENT 😂 LMAF
Can't get enough of Liza in her prime years. That's why I chose her song in our Lip Synch battle last year. Thanks idol! They recognized me and it is all becoz of this classic song which I idolized in my high school years! 😘😘❤️💋
Wooo! Go Liza! This is the best song ever. Liza is spectacular. I saw her perform this live in Perth, Western Australia last year when she came on tour. I was right up the front of the stage. She was so brilliant, I was star struck. I love you Liza :)
When I took the LIRR to Penn Station by myself for the first time, I was listening to this on my iPod as the skyline got closer. It was the best feeling EVER!!!!
I love it when a performer puts "passion" into their performance. When they do that--it makes that moment theirs. Liza certainly did it here. Class-A all the way.
This one is the original version of the song... Theme from New York, New York is the theme song from the Martin Scorsese film New York, New York (1977), composed by John Kander, with lyrics by Fred Ebb. It was written for and performed in the film by Liza Minnelli.
I just sang this lying on my back (gravity is *not* a singer's friend!), and still pulled it off, six years after retiring. That is IT... karaoke night needs to happen so I can get my ya-yas out, and soon! (It has been over two years since I have even gone out for karaoke; much too long for someone who, according to her mom, was practically born singing!) Liza Minelli was one of the first performers who inspired me to sing my heart out. If it wasn't for her, I may never have stepped foot on a stage. I always dreamed of playing Sally in a stage production of "Cabaret," but the opportunity never presented itself to even audition... I related to Sally on so many levels, I think I would've done the part justice. :)
Between this and no "Saturday Night Fever" song in the line-up, Oscars embarrased themselves that year. Golden Globes did it better by nominating "New York, New York", "How Deep Is Your Love" and "Down Deep Inside". Academy replaced them with 3 tunes nobody remembers ("Nobody Does It Better" and winner "You Light Up My Life" were included by both).
I always thought this song was waaay older than '77, that how timeless it is. I'd like to watch a documentary of how it went from basically being either missed or ignored to the iconic song it is today
LOVE this. wish the quality was better. I find her singing style very similar to Chaka Khan. Even though they are in completely different genres, seems like the way that they start their songs easy and light then build up and sing their asses off and peak just enough to get you excited without not overdoing it. LOVE them both
This was such an incredible film. It could't have been more perfectly cast. Spectacular music, wonderful script, also filled with improvisation. Minnelli and DeNiro...American Italians who wear their hearts on their sleeve.
you can't believe what a bomb this movie was!!! de niro and minelli both young and at the rise of their careers. sinatra trumped this song, but it belongs to minelli. how much of her mother comes through on this number, kind of a star is born repeat of the 70s. scorcese even cut a musical scene, reminencent of the former film.
we're playing that in Marching Band. it's pretty fun!! come to florida to watch the Susan E Wagner High School marching band in February!! in DIsney World!!!
I guess I was one of about 50 people that loved this movie. And,that scene, Liza singing that song, was why. Over time, it became so identified with Frank. But it will always be Liza's song to me. Once I saw her in concert. Liza singing "Cabaret" and "New York, New York" was worth the price of the ticket, alone.
+Smellier Moans I love the Sinatra version, as well as many other covers. But this is my favorite. How it starts with just a piano, then slowly builds with each section of the orchestra. Combine that arrangement with Liza's acting abilities and you get perfection.
Amazing Entertainer! Liza learned a great deal about putting her total unique self into her songs from Judy. Liza has said over the years that she will never be her Mom as a performer. Both are musical legends in their own rite. Watch Judy doing some of her songs from her TV Show, and you will agree that she is in a league with Fred, Ginger, Sammy, Donald, Gene, Frank, Dean, Bobby Darrin, Ella, Sarah, and so many of the other untouchables.
Minnelli is magnificent giving an insanely brilliant performance of "New York, New York"...written for her, it's Liza's tour-de-force and she should have more acclaim for her incredible performance in "New York, New York", a highly under-rated Motion Picture Classic...Bravo Liza!
The 70s produced some of the best music ever! Fantastic performance by the legendary Liza. Such a treat... And Frank Sinatra put the cherry on top when he did this song. Marvelous artists.
one of the greatest songs taken from the movies. Richly deserved an Oscar...and it wasn't even nominated.
She sang this and very many other things fabulously. She is so unique. No one like her !!!
i can never get enough of this performance
This song is for the city girl in all of us. I just love the emotional release of this performance. Liza you are fabulous!

Shame the academy for not nominating this song, time has proven it the clear winner from the 1977 crop.
Miguel Cunillera because it’s adopted
Adopted? It was written by Kander and Ebb for Liza for the film. It was eligible for the Oscar that year.
I don't care where you live, but, wouldn't you love to have a song like this written about YOUR city?!!
It always gives me a lift!
Exactly!! Your countinueing to keep New York here from your ancestors if they were born here!
Pretty much like the Mexicans and Aztecs
I have Paris ;)
Little Rock, Little Rock !!!!
Mexico City
When I took the LIRR to Penn Station by myself for the first time, I was listening to this on my iPod as the skyline got closer. It was the best feeling EVER!!!!
Cool!!!!!!!!!! :D
best version of this great song.
I love it when a performer puts "passion" into their performance. When they do that--it makes that moment theirs. Liza certainly did it here. Class-A all the way.
You can really see judy in her when she performs (:
@kikk0r Sorry, no. Minelli did it it 1977, Sinatra released his cover in 1980. Kander and Ebb wrote the song specifically for Minelli and this film.
This song is like the New York anthem. It will be always associated to the wonderful, warm voice of Liza Minelli
This one is the original version of the song...

Always preferred the original with La Minnelli. How this wasn't nominated for an Oscar for best song is a mystery to me.

Absolutely remarkable. I saw her perform this live in 2009, and she still had it!
When Liza sings it, it makes you actually want to move there!!!
Classic, as always, Liza! :D
Can you believe this song was not even nominated for an Oscar in the best song category that year?
Wake up Hollywood!
The best rendition so far to date, even though this is Sinatra's best as well. But Minnelli nailed it.
Truly one of the greats. Extraordinary talent. Bravo, Liza!!
What a way to end a movie.
Truly a Masterpiece.
Liza you made me cry!
Marvelous, unique. And also De Niro.. You see him 1 second and he is everywhere in the screen, you can not forget him not even 1 moment.
absolutely FANTASTIC...
what a great lady!
I always thought this song was waaay older than '77, that how timeless it is. I'd like to watch a documentary of how it went from basically being either missed or ignored to the iconic song it is today
I’m with you. I thought it was a Sinatra hit from the early 60s. He first recorded it in 1980.
i’ve been looking for this for ever
Wonderful, beautiful, with a lovely voice. Love this song and I am Brazilian.
Thanks Liza Minnelli for her voice and sympathy!
Liza owns it and always has. It was written precisely for her.
AMAZING! I love it! I love this lady!! :)

LOVE this. wish the quality was better. I find her singing style very similar to Chaka Khan. Oh Liza, you never disappoint!
This scene will always be in my heart, she's amazing...and the movie too.
she literally becomes possessed by her mother during this number. so powerful it gave me goosebumps. talented family :)
This was such an incredible film. It could't have been more perfectly cast. Spectacular music, wonderful script, also filled with improvisation. Minnelli and DeNiro...American Italians who wear their hearts on their sleeve.
I've never understood why this movie flopped. It is one of the greatest movie-musicals (or anti-musicals) of all-time.
+Christopher Todd Durnil It flopped? Such a shame. This film is a classic
My guess it's done great in video sales and from the earnings of the song.
Probably because it wasn't the typical happy musical plot line people expected?
great voice.
and also an outstanding movie!
I love it! She killed it! No one has a thing on Liza, except her mom :)
Very powerful voice.
we're playing that in Marching Band. it's pretty fun!! come to florida to watch the Susan E Wagner High School marching band in February!!

I guess I was one of about 50 people that loved this movie. And,that scene, Liza singing that song, was why. Over time, it became so identified with Frank. But it will always be Liza's song to me.

When Liza Minnelli sings this New York New York, i get chickenskin!!! Wow

This very nice song. The last week i heard in the Wien radio.
La Classe intégrale... GENIAL !!!!
I fell in love with this movie when I was 10 yrs. old.
she sooo reminds me of her mother, even the way she talks to the audience does.
I love it. Perfect.

Minnelli is magnificent giving an insanely brilliant performance of "New York, New York"...written for her, it's Liza's tour-de-force and she should have more acclaim for her incredible performance in "New York, New York", a highly under-rated Motion Picture Classic...Bravo Liza!

i love her voice because its strong, and not a soft little voice
You go girl! ♥
this amazing song make me feel shiver on my skin!!!!!
fantastic
Amazing! I don't understand why people think Frank originated this song....It's always been Liza!
I love Sinatra but this is one song where Liza kicked his ass. She totally outsung him by a mile.
Lots of Love...
Liza makes you want to MOVE to New York.
Sinatra makes you want to take an alternate route around it.
Extraordinaria, única...
The soundtrack for this film is really really good.
i luv this song so much n wish one day i wl b there once
AWSOME!
Amazing song ! Really !
LOVE IT!
The 70s produced some of the best music ever! Fantastic performance by the legendary Liza. Such a treat... And Frank Sinatra put the cherry on top when he did this song. Marvelous artists.
