  • We are joined by Dr Matthew Portas (FA Physical Performance Education Lead), Jimmy Gilligan (FA Senior Game Coach Developer), Paul Davis (FA Senior Game Coach Developer) and Michael Matthews (FA Youth Coach Developer) as they give an insight into effective planning and periodisation. They consider:
    • Why do we need to periodise?
    • Different models of periodising training and the impact that these strategies have on player development and performance.
    • The challenges of balancing both player development and performance-based plans.
    • Effective ways to play place importance upon sleep and training planning.

I find mental fatigue is the hardest to overcome. Things like letting players come in the day after a game late on in the day or not at all can have a really good effect and mentally recharge the batteries

Dont tell...let me guess...Your 22 years old..been coaching for 3 years and you now are a HEAD COACH...FFS ..I dont know what i find more nauseating is that you applied for the role or those in charge gave you it to you. Another example of putting diesel in a Ferrari...go out learn our craft dont EVEN think about coaching other coaches until you put more hours in sessions than you have than wiping ya backside.

@@XXLaffinGravyXX hi bro, it's been 2 years that team I had went under beaten for 1.5 years. I'm coaching now in the NPL Victoria as a head coach, it's been a hard year learning how to start a new team from almost scratch, I could do better and I am doing my b licence now. As I coach 4 days a week I can promise you its not for everyone and definitely not easy. I sometimes do small videos to show my journey, but I feel that can be a better coach and there is nothing wrong with trying to reach a high level in the future. I'm 38.

@@coachtechnique Do not take this personally friend, but if you just got your first head coach job, putting out content for other coaches is not a good idea. In the other comment the mate went a bit aggressively but see it this way:
You might have great content, but the content in itself would be a disservice to other coaches. I respect that tho, but let's keep learning, let's keep pushing our boundaries, you really need to get to a certain level that is way above just 2 years of head coaching before you can really elevate a coach with knowledge. I'm sure you are a great coach and you are good at what you do, but putting out content with the level of experience you have is not a good idea.
For example: I just watched one of your videos, you are praising players for doing what's right, that already is a sign that you are not experienced, a simple pass is the norm you don't praise a player for that, however if he makes a pass that goes beyond the fact of just passing the ball, he makes an extraordinary play, super smart and all, then yeah. In your videos you tell the players "These are stuff that they do in the premier league, remember you asked me to do it ?"; no lol they are very young in your video, maybe 11-12? why telling them that ? How does that make them better players ? They need to do what these pro players did BEFORE MAKING IT TO THE PREMIER LEAGUE, which is being a youth player. Like mate, all that stuff is a disservice to a lot of young coaches out there who will see your videos. I'm not trying to discourage you from putting your stuff out there, but take time, get your skills to be sharper, get more knowledgeable and stuff before sharing to other coaches. Keep on the good work!
