While this is a well made video and very detailed it neglects to talk about the primary thing in standard (at least on Arena) right now which is mono black control. It is ridiculously oppressive and can easily handle most decks in the meta right now with low cost discard, low cost kill spells, and lili leading into Sheoldred. There is too much interaction in standard right now in the form of Card denial from black. It honestly makes playing standard mind numbing and painful. And I play a variety of decks from boros enchantment with mice, to Orzhov bats in midrange. Mono black is still just too problematic
So refreshing to finally see recommendations for Standard on TCC. Standard is and always will be the heart and soul of MTG. The decklist themselves are great brews. Such a good job again, thanks Prof!
Hard disagree. I love standard. But the heart and soul of magic is commander now. It carries the game. It's hard to find a standard room in dfw in a friday. One of the biggest metroplexes in the world. Sucks, cuz standard is the true game. But its def not carrying the mtg pulse anymore.
@@ianstevens6501 commander maybe carries the company since they've catered way too much to commander players over the last years, but it's not what MTG is. Any respectable TCG is a main 1v1 constructed format with a healthy rotation and all the other formats start popping up around it. Legacy, Modern or Pauper wouldn't exist without years and years of Standard. Same goes for Commander. The multiplayer aspect, politics and other people deciding to pile on one player while that player may have the strongest deck, is not what a tcg is, it's just a generic table game immitation using the brand's cards to play it. Even if it's more popular than Standard right now. Standard will always be the heart and soul of Magic and that's what I meant with it. I play a lot of Commander and enjoy most formats, so I don't mean any disrespect to the people who prefer them over Standard, I just typed my thoughts. Sorry for the long post 😂
Sweet deck, sweet choice prof. Glad you're doing standard content. The Bogles deck is fairly strong esp the card sheltered by ghosts (soooo pushed) My favorites are the flash creature threats. Enduring Curiosity and the tracker❤
I made a frog deck and it's all I want to play. I don't get if it's not meta. It's all frogs. In my opinion, magic is most fun with thematic decks instead of what is the most mathematical meta decks.
Friend, I topped my locals in my first standard tourny with simic frogs and no side deck or cavern of souls. I beat 2 mono blue tempo deck and golgari midrange
I had a graveyard deck back in the late 90s early 2000s, beating grown-ups in tournaments at the card shops, gave it then but still have 1000s of cards, all early and 90s cards.
I am also happy for the standard comment....commander brought me back into the game but as my pod had schedule issues i've been playing more and more standard at LGS's so its nice to get some reliable characters providing input into the format!!!! Thank you so much Prof!

I love to play the first deck but with a bit more end game: doll makers shop/porcelain gallery, mirror room/fractured realm and ghostly dancers. Most likely it’s weaker because it’s less consistent, but it is much more fun when you unlock porcelain gallery and suddenly attack with 10/10 creatures

Just bought this deck yesterday and took it to my first ever paper standard event. Only a 4 person “tournament” but I won 2-0, 2-1 and got the fancy promo Oko art Disdainful Stroke! Thanks, Professor!

Just subbed to the channel. You've been a tremendous resource for this "newbie" to the game over the last few weeks Prof... Ive been a sideline fan of MTG for a decade or so now. My step brothers friends would play all the time when I would stop by for "party favors..." I would sit and watch them with curiosity all the time. Always loved the art on the cards, but was overwhelmed by WTF was going on lol. My stepson is getting into Pokemon more these days, and im trying to bond over trading cards with him; so i chose to get into this. Post Malone also helped with the algorithm finding you id say. lol wife has him playing on loop at home all the time. Any who i finally grasp enough to play a game and not sound totally clueless...Thanks for accepting me into your Collegian Community sir.
I wish you could release these standard videos a week or two in advance of the store events so I i could have time to order the cards. I often hear about the event in the first place from your videos, then I gain some interest, but dont have time to order all the singles especially since my lgs doesn't sell bulk.
I’ve been playing Rakdos Aggro on Arena and it’s been a ton of fun! My advice as someone getting into other formats (coming from commander) is to look at the meta online, find a deck you like, import it into arena and use the cards you have + your wildcards to make the deck! Play with it on Arena for a bit and see if it’ll be worth buying
Great video as always. For Azorius Tempo I would highly recommend 'Founding the Third Path'. It is basically 0 mana, if you can play an Instant or sorcery with it on chapter 1. After that it fills your bin and lets you flashback another instant or sorcery from your yard. Or you can go straight to chapter 3 and get a needed 'Helping Hand' or removal from your bin. With that flexibility and potential tempo it's definetly worthy of consideration.
Back when I played paper standard, I'd have been better served just scooping turn 0 against every opponent at my LGS. everybody had their fucking pro tour netdecks at FNM and also weren't above telling a complete newbie Emrakul's protection from instants applied even on the stack

I can't get over listing the lack of graveyard hate in sideboards. Between Leyline of the void and Ghost Vacuum, atop Rest in Peace, Soul Guide Lanturn and let's not forget Kutzil's Flanker, it's far more common than you would think, and often, most decks run multiple, since Azor-Rean isn't even the most common reanimator deck in play right now.
I mean thank god there are so many cards and especially thz colorless ones so any dexk can run them. Because there are wayyyy to much different reanimator strategies, that are now so fast and consistent. Turn 4 Atraxa or Valgavoth is a really common thing, and I appriciate the fact that I can counter them creature cheaters :D
@@alexcsere I dunno both annoying, but mono red withiut leyline runs out pf gas really quickly, my deck beats them more often than reanimators, plus with reanimators games last for soooo long
@frenche2480 are you simple? Go play at any normal group of tables, someone's playing a red variant. turn one, they go first, Leyline, land, scamp/hero, gg turn 3 at the latest. Turn 2 almost as likely. You get one land and one 1 CMC spell. If they're gruul they have snakeskin. If they're boros they have shard. How is that as annoying as turn 4 or turn 5 recursion?
I'd love to add two cards to consider for the Azorius Aura list. Invasion of Gobakhan and Invasion of Theros. Gobakhan has been standard relevant even outside of enchantment shells but it is incredible in Azorius Auras. Gobakhan lets you see your opponents hands and exile a nonland card from it, making it 2 more expensive to cast for your opponent. Then if you do 3 damage to the battle, you get light shield array, an enchantment which will give a 1/1 counter to any of your creatures that attacked this turn with the option to sac the enchantment to give all your creatures hexproof and indestructible. Invasion of Theros is effectively an aura enchantment tutor, when you first cast it you get to tutor up an aura, god or demigod to your hand. If you flip the Invasion by doing 4 damage to it, you also Ephara, Ever-Sheltering, a 4/4 Legendary Enchantment creature that draws a card everytime you cast an enchantment and becomes indestructible whenever you have 3 other enchantments in play.
I’ve been jamming a bunch of Izzet Haste Prowess on Arena in Standard - this seems a lot more tuned than that but I love when pumping small efficient creatures is a good strategy in any format!
Hey for everyone else who tried to import the azorius deck to arena and got errors, its because the versions of the cards in the archidekt have changed to non standard legal versions. Simply click the individual cards, use the drop down to select a standard legal printing and then use the export function set to Arena to copy the decklist.

I had a really great time building the previous ones (Red and Gruul Prowess) and I'm sure I'm going to enjoy building these two new decks, but unfortunately because its now out there, the cards included are going to rise in price and people are going to start hoarding them, abhorrent occulus is already abhorrently priced at the moment😅 its not going to cost what you said in just a few days 😁

I have never played standard but since duskmourn released ive been jamming almost nothing but enchantment decks using cards from the set. This standard breakdown makes me want to now play Azorious enchantments in Standard

Been playing Azorius Oculus on the Arena Bo3 ladder and I can confirm it's an absolute blast! I run Monastery Mentor over Haughty Djinn as graveyard hate is becoming more and more common in sideboards (and even some mainboards), and Mentor just gives me more of a plan against those decks. That being said, I still think Djinn is perfectly reasonable, as the deck has decent answers to graveyard hate pieces.
Great video and cool decks! Glad to see mono white tokens getting some recognition! I wonder if my wife beating the Prof with that deck during the recent Store Championship had anything to do with it ;)

I am so glad Standard is alive and well. It is what should be the guiding force of MTG. Commander should be something the fans do on our own, NOT something that WotC is overly designing for
Been playing the enchantment deck with a little splash of black… the azorious one is definitely more consistent but i adore finally having a viable three colour deck, and without using red or green (ive built so much gruul+ decks over my time playing) genuinely i dont think ive enjoyed a standard deck this much
I have been having a blast with the budget deck on arena, can I suggest spellbook vendor as another alternative, the one mana aura he makes usually will have a target and provides an extra source of enchantments to trigger your other synergies Been getting soooo many rage quits on turn 2 or 3..
I saw the enchantment deck on mtggoldfish and god I have been *loving it* the verge land is honestly the update i need over Adakar Wastes which has often been pinging me too much.
I played standard Izzet Drakes way back in the GRN/RNA meta when I first got into the game. After the original Eldraine dropped I lost interest in the format and it never really seemed all that fun ever since. But now that it seems like Sheoldred is less of a requirement in standard these days, these decks actually look really fun! I might just give the Azorius enchantments a whirl
I wonder how foundations will effect standard, my closest store says they're waiting to host standard until it's out. I'm also curious whether that "starter collection" will be worth it for me.
Huge fan of the azorius tempo, I tweaked the list *quite* a bit because... uh, dont have everything, and dont want to go buy extra copies of X or Y card, but its a really fun deck, and with some of my twist it feels more "mine" (even if maybe its a bit worse)

Eerie is by far my favorite mechanic in duskmourn, so I think im going to pick up this deck for the standard tournament!

pre-Duskmourn I took a Mono U Eluge tempo list to a store championship win in a 32 person pool. it was only $40 so i recommend that too

Love the Standard deck techs, I don't really have a store closer than 45m from me, but there is always arena!
It took me a while to figure out you probably meant minutes. 45m (as in, 45 meters) seemed awfully close!
Been playing Azorius Oculus on the Arena Bo3 ladder and I can confirm it's an absolute blast! I run Monastery Mentor over Haughty Djinn as graveyard hate is becoming more and more common in sideboards (and even some mainboards), and Mentor just gives me more of a plan against those decks. That being said, I still think Djinn is perfectly reasonable, as the deck has decent answers to graveyard hate pieces.

Azorious Zoetic Glyph is also a fairly cheap power deck. This new set didn’t really give it much, but it’s still viable imo
This standard meta is fun as heck, I even enjoy Bo1 Arena with the Azorius Tempo Deck :)
I am so glad Standard is alive and well. It is what should be the guiding force of MTG. Commander should be something the fans do on our own, NOT something that WotC is overly designing for

Been playing the enchantment deck with a little splash of black… the azorious one is definitely more consistent but i adore finally having a viable three colour deck, and without using red or green (ive built so much gruul+ decks over my time playing) genuinely i dont think ive enjoyed a standard deck this much
I have been having a blast with the budget deck on arena, can I suggest spellbook vendor as another alternative, the one mana aura he makes usually will have a target and provides an extra source of enchantments to trigger your other synergies

I played standard Izzet Drakes way back in the GRN/RNA meta when I first got into the game. After the original Eldraine dropped I lost interest in the format and it never really seemed all that fun ever since.
But now that it seems like Sheoldred is less of a requirement in standard these days, these decks actually look really fun! I might just give the Azorius enchantments a whirl

I've had some success with this on Arena. It surprisingly snowballs pretty quickly.
I wonder how foundations will effect standard, my closest store says they're waiting to host standard until it's out. I'm also curious whether that "starter collection" will be worth it for me.

I am trying out Boros Auras, it has the ability to do quick kills, but can life gain, and have more sideboard options.

Huge fan of the azorius tempo, I tweaked the list *quite* a bit because... uh, dont have everything, and dont want to go buy extra copies of X or Y card, but its a really fun deck, and with some of my twist it feels more "mine" (even if maybe its a bit worse)
