I remember having this....we got rid of ours before we moved in the 1990sm...this was a real mess....this killed the satellite TV business...a lot said ..no way we were going to pay for satellite TV...it was a crime...way should people invest in this if they had to pay a monthly fee...we got rid of ours 😮...
$400 for a VCII in 1986 dollars was a farce! $150ish would have been more fair. It really added insult to injury. People were already pissed about scrambling.
Was there an discounted upgrade program for owners of the original VideoCipher boxes? I'd go all-in on television piracy if you had to pay $400 for an upgrade too.
@@glennjamin Legit subscribers got free replacements. But piracy was so rampant in the late '80s and early '90s that I had actually never ran across a non-chipped VideoCipher. People would have rather paid hundreds per year to the pirates than to go legit. The VideoCipher II Plus never was defeated as far as I know.
