When storing water in your home, check the support structure underneath. I store gallons of water in my kitchen, as several times I have been without water. My floor started to sag and I realized the floor joists were spaced 24" apart rather than 16". Just something to consider.
    Blessings on your day ❤

I still think that tanker was an excellent idea. We do have a very high water table and we have a well, but it has an electric pump. We are looking into getting a solar pump. We also have a hand pump, but haven’t installed it yet. For rain water, we have 4 food grade totes with crates that I think are 250 gallons each, and a counter top water purifier.
Praying for you and your family as always! Shalom!

TIMELY! The feds are getting more insistent about Volt Typhoon. In addition, I have 5 gal water dispensers in every bathroom and in the kitchen. I have soft 50 gal water bags in each bath tub. I have 2 40 gal trash containers in the garage. Also a dehumidifier in the basement which generates a good deal of water.

We take our trailer and go get the large 'totes' (750-gallon plastic tanks surrounded by a tubular metal frame), from a local organic bakery. All of our water tanks had agave in them. Last year, there was still some in there, and my husband tipped the tank up while I held canning jars under them and got almost 2 gallons of agave. Anyway, we hook up our rain gutters and that is how I water the garden. Our well is good, and we live where there is abundant rain, but, like you Heidi, we can have summers where it doesn't rain for a couple weeks and the grass turns brown. I buy small water pumps (I think they are 1/4 horse.....not sure) at Tractor Supply. These must have water in them before you plug the cord in or you will burn up that pump! Other than being careful about which order I do things - first turn the handle on the bottom of the tank, then plug in, this works very well, the water goes in a couple hundred feet of hose, and then I still need to spray it far to get the farthest corners of the garden. I can water animals with this, too, and fill up the kiddie pool for the dogs - but the chickens also like to drink from the kiddie pool even though they have other sources of water.
Those $12 kiddie pools are SO useful....I start plants in them in the greenhouse, fill with water, etc. And if I 'take a shower' in the greenhouse, I stand in a kiddie pool that I've drilled a drain hole in the side of. Water in a black water trough is hot enough at the end of a summer day - I have to put some cold in it. Seriously, you could scrub bacon grease off of a pan it's so hot!

I live in the Dallas Texas area and we've had some unusual freezing situations in the past several years. Our homes were not insulated for this kind of cold, so we've had frozen pipes at home as well as our city. Since we have a little warning about the freeze, I filled my bathtub. The next morning, it was empty. While the plug works perfectly fine for a bath, it doesn't hold much longer than that. That's when I really understood redundancy and testing and being familiar with my backups. Heidi, how much of the additive do you add to the water in your rigs? Say, per liter? I've continued to use the generator you used to sell in your Etsy shop, so that's what I'm going with. Prayers for you and your family. Thank you for sharing

We have an above ground recreational cistern, it won't work so well in Winter but we usually have snow. We hope to add gutter rainwater collection. Ideally we'd have a source of water on the property like a stream or pond but do not. There are some nearby, but at this point I couldn't count on having access to them in an emergency.
Having multiple filtration options and knowing how to solar distill bushcraft style via evaporation and collection (I'm wondering how this could be set up in a green house as this already happens in there naturally) are good backups; and a Bison or other hand pump well are great secondary redundancies.
    Love the milk tank idea!

I have used filtered water for 30 years. I buy the BPA free bottles,I have 12 ,4 I store away in a cool dark closet. I did buy some water in mylar bags ,8oz,good forever. It doesn't rain much here but when it does I have barrels to catch it and filter it in bottles. Water is needed to survive,so to keep as much as I can. Iodine is a good idea,Heidi, thanks. HIGH TUNNELS: Heidi, my husband did not listen to me (how unusual, she said sarcastically) about hot incredibly hot these can get. Ours is 60' long, and I wanted the sides to roll up. He went to buy the plastic and did not get it big enough. This is the third year with this plastic, and we'll probably replace it this fall. I want to get those sides rolled up! If I had it to do over again, I'd make two or three smaller ones so it would be easier to get air flow through them, and have the sides roll up. With that said, besides extending the growing season, I dry laundry in there all year, even on sunny days in winter it can be in the seventies in there. I take yogurt/bread out there to rise (covered so sun doesn't actually shine on it). I take a shower out there sometimes in summer - fun - you feel very self sufficient using solar water. In winter, I store the lawnmowers, rototiller, lawn furniture, etc. in there. AND - the cats love it. Yesterday it was about 100-degrees in there, and Rosie the older cat was lounging around on some mulch, LOL!
How did I live without one of these before? LOL! OH - someday, I will take the time to experiment with building a solar oven. It should work doubly well in a high tunnel I would guess. :)

My husband, Mr. Good-Enough-No-I'm-Not-Researching-It, connected 4 blue 55 gallon barrels to the shed with the metal roof, but unfortunately, they just collect, spill over, and never get flushed or filtered. And he's just placed some black garden weed barrier on top so leaves don't fall in. Meaning: there is no system there. I can't make heads or tales of all the rainwater catchment I've read. Too technical for me. I wish someone would explain SIMPLY exactly what is needed to put up two barrels like yours and keep the water moving and fresh enough to filter to drink. Step A, step B, etc. Not a lot of explanation, just how-to. Like a diagram of the minimum to safe and simple system.

If you are asking about the "basket weave" pattern on the tower planters... it is just for a "pretty design"... color or pattern does not make a difference in how well the plants grow. But towers are containers... it is important to check the soil moisture very often... they dry out a little faster than ground planted. Hope this helps... 🌻🐛🌿💚

Good homestead video, but the reality is when you speak preparedness and you also mentioned renewable. Unfortunately theres no preparedness mindset in homesteading because it is not renewable. I wish i was as lucky as you to have all what you do so i don't have to go into those demonic stores, but in a sense I maybe more blessed in these last days without, because my mindset since 2015 has been bushcraft survival, because until the day Christ returns and there is an absolute burning up of the earth, nature will always provide a renewable source. I train myself with (Exodus 16 Kjv) I do the oppisite of storing up, because it soon runs out. The only reason I store certain foods and water is so I don't have to go in those gastly satanic stores, but alot of my food mostly vegetables and medicine I can't get in the supermarket I forage from the wild. So my advice to people is learn a fire starting technuiqe like bow or hand drilling, also buy a magnify glass, and the day they cut off peoples water or like some places where I am the water is contaminated. You can find you nearest river and boil it on a fire. I'm not at that point yet, but i'm waiting for the terrible day, that's if I make it till he returns because my health has taking quite a battering in the last few years so probally best he takes me out before that terrible day.
