Came here from the Forbes article. Great job. But we need to take a close look at the 400k salaries loaded up with overtime crippling our state budget especially when the lifeguards were arresting people for paddle boarding last summer in Malibu.
My ENORMOUS admiration for the bravery and skills and character of Nick Macko is unfortunately almost eclipsed by the ignorance and carelessness of the swimmers who chose to do this. It seems like any human of any age can look at that location and say, this is not a smart place to swim.
It’s not the size of the waves it’s the size of the swells that matter. There’s a beach where I live, it’s nickname is mortuary Beach. The waves don’t even break there. But people get sucked out and drown all the time.
Awesome respect for people like this, risking their lives to save others...
Wow, what a hero! Congratulations to Nick Macko! A true hero
Hey Nick, not sure if you remember but I hosted you on your recruiting trip to TCNJ. Such good video...much respect
A hand salute Nick Macko and the men of FS 53. You honor all of us who have served in the LA Co FD.
Way to go Macko! Remember Hollywood Beach Patrol! Moleman

The guy climbing up the rocks at the end was not the same guy hanging on they rocks.
Pretty sure parts had to be re-enacted to be able to share this video. No harm in that. Nice we can see greatness.
Wondering the same thing. Also, how'd they get footage inside the cave?
In the tube must have been a portrayal, not actual footage.
and to think this dude only made $135,000 last year as a lifeguard.
It seems fair, but to think that some lifeguards make 300k+, that's nuts
Nick Macko is worth far more than $135K IMO
Dont get me wrong, but that rescue seemed not that hard, you should See the lifeguards at beaches with huge waves
