    It's so good to go back & revisit these old videos. It reminds me of many techniques that I've forgotten. Also shows where Tim's creativity has come from. Love doing tags. It's sort of my thing. It's what I fall back to all the time. Thanks Tim 😊

    ^^&THAT is why I decided to start art journaling the very first time I saw altered art by Tim Holtz!

    Yes, very interesting and I too am wondering exactly what one is now to do with this tag?

      +Kendra Sanders A lot of people use tags in videos because it is a smaller surface to work on - perfect for a demo. If I make a completed tag I use it when I am giving gifts or writing notes to me daughter's teacher. If I demo a technique on a tag - I use it to cut up later or die cut to add elements to my pages.

    Do you have to use paints or can you use crayons, oxides or inks

    Is Glycerin or gum arabic perhaps added to the Tim Holtz distress paints? They seem to resist dye based inks, as they are waterproof, but they are acrylic which are water based. So confused. Would buy them but they are £4.99 for a 1oz bottle and thought I could use my existing acrylic paints instead!

    • @ScrapTimeVideos
      @ScrapTimeVideos  3 роки тому

      All acrylic paints will resist dye based inks. Distress Inks are a thinner acrylic paint. So it depends on the technique you are trying to do whether you want them or just use the paints you have.

    I recently got my first distress ink pads (minis) but they all seem so dry compared to how they apply in this video...

    • @ScrapTimeVideos
      @ScrapTimeVideos  8 років тому +1

      If you think they are too dry contact Ranger. In this video Tim may have re-inked his since he was using them all day. So they may be a bit more juicier than yours.

      @@ScrapTimeVideos Ranger won't do anything. They knowingly sold defective products, the tops popped off leaving the pads to dry out, poorly manufactured and quality control absent. Tim mentions them "reworking them because of an issue with the tops popping off" in a demo video proving they knew it was a problem and they didn't replace any of the defective items. They don't care if loyal customers spent hundreds on said ink pads. I give credit to the chemist's that created the distress ink formula, and that's where admiration stops. Tim himself goes two other people and tells them what he wants and they and "they" never get the credit Tim's name goes on all of the products. He is Rangers Cash cow and they are never going to admit their cornerstone product that makes all of their money has a problem. It's no coincidence every single one of his videos has commenting blocked. The day he actually makes something himself instead of riding on the coattails of everybody else I'll be surprised. None of the stampers anonymous sets are his hand drawn artwork. He didn't engineer or produce schematics or lineart for any of the dies with his name on them. He didn't come up with the chemical formulas for any of the products with his name on them. He's just Valerie Parr Hill in a different industry. He's also a flaming hypocrite. He constantly reiterates you get what you if it's not perfect so what, yet he's constantly reworking his own products. The one thing that has never changed is him stating it's what he wanted... Not that he wanted it for his customers, oh no, he wanted it for himself. So...Ranger won't do anything and if you ask the person who can't take criticism or complaints about inferior products you'll get nowhere. Spectrum Noir just came out with water reactive inks...may have to migrate to a competitor that actually listens to it's customers. Btw I'm a graphic designer of 30 years who worked booths like this back in the day. It's night & day seriously. Esteemed institutions like Winsor & Newton, Derwent, Alvin, Staedtler etc would never have such shoddy manufacturing or fake representatives. Dyans paint pens were a disaster and instead of Ranger owning that they gaslit customers into thinking it was their own incompetence. They sell hot garbage and don't care because $$$$. It's still the used car salesman, he just dresses nicer and has trendy jewelry and is now every lonely housewife's bff, instead of being on her doorstep he's on her phone. She'll pay top dollar too for 60 seconds of validation. At least 60 years ago most of it wasn't made in China and actually worked!

    Can I use a blow dryer to dry instead of what he is using?

    • @ScrapTimeVideos
      @ScrapTimeVideos  8 років тому

      No - he is using a heat tool. A hair dryer isn't hot enough and would just blow everything around. You could use an embossing tool - just keep it moving - don't let it sit in 1 spot for too long.

    • @mirandawhitehead6932
      @mirandawhitehead6932 9 років тому

      miranda whitehead and also distress paint

    • @ScrapTimeVideos
      @ScrapTimeVideos  9 років тому

      miranda whitehead If it doesn't come off don't worry about it. My stencils are covered in inks and paints. The paints won't transfer colour, but just test what happens if you put a wet medium through the stains. Does the stain transfer to your next project. Does it bother you. If so try washing with soap and a scrubber brush.
