That John Hughey intro on steel is what made that song.No one could play it like him.

And my God, over the break in the middle of the song he spans 4 octaves. I Wonder if he modified the tuning on his C6 neck for that? Or maybe he dropped the E9 neck down to a C? . He starts off on that growling low C and slides up to high C - 4 octaves later!

@@edavidsalways That is played on the E9 neck. You start on the low B (10th string) open and go from there.I used to play that break, but I haven't played my steel in about 5 years.I got into a Bluegrass/Southern Gospel group playing 5 string banjo and just put my steel aside.I'm a much better banjo player than a steel player anyway.

This rendition by Conway should be buried in a time capsule to be opened in 100 years to show what real country music is and was.

That is the truth if I ever heard it! Country music has certainly digressed until it is unrecognizable.

A radio is useless today,as far as I'm concerned,as far as real country music goes, unless you are in Texas.

I've listened to this song a lot throughout the years, but that steel intro never ceases to amaze me. To say that it's awesome would be one hell of an understatement!

Been a fan since '72 when i was 9 years old and hearing my 1st track of Conway's "Crazy Dreams" i was hooked on his voice.
10 years ago, introducing up and coming country artists on stage with audiences requesting tracks, the most requested track by an artists with a similar resonant balladieric voice was for "It's Only Make Believe" followed by the controversial
"I Can Tell You Never Been This Far Before"
      What a Legend
Still listen after all of these years. 🤠

what a very beautiful man that had such a beautiful spirit. Conway Twitty was the perfect man, and he was basically the same way in life as it was on stage. He’s been gone for 32 years and I know someday I will get to meet them. My mother is been gone for 30 and I know I will get to see her again too. God bless him and listen to be friends, and to laugh and sing, and to be the people they were intended to be. I know Conway was not be happy about what w did was Twitty city, and they had to liquidate everything because of her and her greediness. I think that’s a horrible law that spouse gets 1/3 of everything that a father has that has for other children. She was boxing things up and putting them in the car without people knowing about it I was, I never invited her in the same light anymore. 1:30 her in the same light anymore not sure if he was here. He would’ve went through there and would’ve went in and wiped out all of that greed. His poor children that he built Twitty city for so they get all the next together they all had to move out and find their own places because of his wife, D and her been so selfish did not care for his children at all. She turned out to be a money monger. She destroyed what Conway built years to buildtwitty city, I hope Dee children at got righteousness in the end because they lost their homes because the Deas greed they had to sell things and put it up for auction and I know if Conway was alive he would’ve went through there and he would not let that happen and I’m sure that he would let Dee call at that time. When does selfish woman she was too bad it on Waze did not see what was coming or what she was doing. I know now that he is heavy and without her.
