I understand that Takamoto was the most popular rally driver among the locals.
'Taka' means 'to want' & 'moto' means 'fire' in Swahili language. So Takamoto means 'to want fire.' He became very popular among the rally spectators in kenya. They would shout "Taka-moto" as he passed by meaning 'the one who wants fire' is indeed firing on.

I think Kalle Rovanperä makes a superb rally. He started by clearing and making tracks for those behind and was 32 seconds behind Sebastien Ogier at most and at the finish line just 6.7 seconds behind in a brilliant 2nd place. 👍

How is Ogier not universally considered the greatest of all time after winning such a bruising rally and despite all that misfortune? He's still the best driver in the world, and very likely the greatest motorsport driver there's ever been. He lacks nothing, and he's as mentally tough as anyone in the history of motorsports. A true master in every sense of the word who can handle almost anything thrown at him. I don't think I've ever seen an ultra high level sportsman who's as adaptable as Ogier is. Let's appreciate him as long as we still have him, because we won't see his like again.
Ogier is indeed an incredible athlete and deserves all the recognition and appreciation for his achievements.
I would put him up very close to Sebastien Loeb. Giving Loeb the nod for tremendous results in other branches of motorsport.
In terms of rally, I put him ahead of Loeb. So much success with different teams, with more competition, so for me he is the GOAT of rally. That said, Loeb has achieved a lot outside of rally, so in total maybe Loeb is ahead. But really, with the incredible careers Fangio, Clark, Hill, and Andretti had, I cannot put Loeb on their level.

A great drive from Takamoto Katsuta, who was basically in half a car for most of the rally 😁 But he kept going!!! Top man, he'll get better at keeping it on the island 👍

Seb Ogier had an excellent outing for the last three days but i also commend Rovanpera for taking it to the wire. I noted too that the chasing pack are very quick too but my favourite is Thierry Neuville who despite having a mechanical breakdown early in first stages he still shown his class in the last stage where he displayed the car's maximum power and his driving skills. Congratulations to the rally organisers.

Must be joking. Toyota is more dominant as a car and a team than Red Bull today or Mercedes last decade in F1. Having a 1,2,3,4 two years in a row in a rally is something unbelievably bad for the sport itself.
@@elisterr but the thing is here cars crash much more frequently and produce unexpected results with 5 different winners already with neuville in italy, tanak in sweden, evans in croatia, rovanperä in portugal and ogier the remaining races
When asked about the Safari rally the correct answer would be the toughest rally in the world, about Kenya, a beautiful place where every other car next to you is always a Toyota & also strongly believe where the "gods" of Toyota reside, Toyotas have gained a reputation for exceptional reliability and robustness designed to tackle the toughest terrain and endure the harshest conditions making them trusted companions, this has been rubber stamped to the entire world Toyota finishing 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th for two years in a row not forgetting they did the same in the year1993 in the same order, guys it's not a fluke they are simply the better car, designed with one heart & passion for the betterment of mankind not just an industry, Long live Toyota, Long live Kenya God bless.

I followed this rally to see how Kalle responded especially to Seb.I would say Kale kept it cool calm and collected. He was doing all the clearing yet still managed very good top times. He managed to reduce the gap to 6 seconds to Seb who's a seasoned champ. Kudos to Toyota, they stamped their dominabce and supremacy in toughness and reliability 🤘🤙

He hasn't retired though. He only retired from full-time WRC.
He has every right to drive part-time. Toyota brought him in to win and fight for the win on certain rallies. I like Rovanpera, but no one is owed a win - you either earn it or you don't.
