    Thank you for sharing. It’s great to get a behind the scenes look at healthcare related jobs that are not as readily known.

    Super interesting job! It’s nice to get an idea of other health related jobs out. I’m starting to try and figure out what jobs I want to apply to once I’m done with my MPH in December. There’s never enough time.. I work full time, have classes and an internship. It can definitely lead to burnout… but it definitely helps to just talk with someone, doesn’t even have to be a professional. Best of luck!
    Just a tip, it may be better to look at the camera and not the screen while filming. I always feel like you’re talking to someone beside more or behind me and I try to move my iPad to get in eye line… then realize it’s a video haha

      Congrats on finishing your MPH soon! And it definitely feels like there’s never enough time, take a moment to just celebrate when you finish in December ☺️

    Wow you’re really shaking the room for me! I’m a undergrad trying to decide between becoming a doctor or health care consulting.
    Consulting looks so fun but being a doctor seems so cool and a challenge I’d love to take on.! Sigh… decisions decisions.

    • @MomentsInMed
      @MomentsInMed  3 роки тому +2

      It’s a big decision! And one you should give a lot of thought to before embarking down the long road of medical school, residency, etc. Maybe try out consulting after you graduate and if you decide you still want to go into medicine, you have a great gap year story! Check out this video on gap years: ua-cam.com/video/-bJNrhD_72Q/v-deo.html

    Love this video, of course! Would love to know any strategies you used to get this job or just what to do to get a job in consulting? I’m very interested in consulting!!(:

      I got this job by going to a career fair hosted by my MPH program (even though I was an alumni at the time). As much as I hate this expression and what it stands for, it really is who you know not what so take advantage of any networking!

    • @MomentsInMed
      @MomentsInMed  3 роки тому +1

      Typically there is a decent amount of travel required but that was paused for about a year due to the pandemic. We are just now starting to travel again to client sites on occasion

    Thank for making this video, currently studying Biochem in the UK and I’m really interested in going down thus route. Do u think a masters in medical law or public health will help increase chances?
    Subscribed!❤️❤️

    • @MomentsInMed
      @MomentsInMed  3 роки тому +1

      It could definitely be helpful but is CERTAINLY NOT required. I am the only person at my level in the firm with a masters so you can definitely get hired without a graduate degree.

I would appreciate a response from you please!

    how did you know you wanted to major in this? im currently a nursing major in my second year but im kinda having a mid-life crisis where i'm not sure if what i'm doing is what I want, i've been researching other branches of healthcare and healthcare consultant really intrigues me 🙂

    • @MomentsInMed
      @MomentsInMed  2 роки тому

      Hey! So you don’t really “major” in healthcare consulting. You can apply any health-related degree to consulting ☺️

    Hi, thank you for this video and congratulations on landing that job! I'm currently in high school and torn between a bachelor's in healthcare management and health information management. In your opinion, which one would be better undergrad degree if I want to go into healthcare consulting in the future? also, subscribed

    • @MomentsInMed
      @MomentsInMed  2 роки тому

      Either would be good! The more important thing is to do well and enjoy your classes so feel it out during your first-second year (maybe take 1 entry level elective in each major) and then decide on the one you enjoy more

    Hi there! Random overly specific question for you.
    I actually went to dental school right after graduating college and now I’m in my fourth year, but after reaching the more intensive clinical part of the schooling I’ve had a revelation that this career is just not for me (late I know)
    I still plan to graduate at this point since I’m so close, but do you think my DDS in tandem with my undergrad degree in science would make me a strong candidate for a job in healthcare consulting? I don’t have any formal business or job experience, but because of dental school I have a stronger background in clinic operations, insurance, coding, etc than the average joe.
    Any advice would be appreciated, good luck with the mcat studying, it’s a miserable few months that you’ll be thankful you toughed out in the long run :)

    • @MomentsInMed
      @MomentsInMed  2 роки тому

      Hey! While your dental degree will certainly give you a leg up in some situations. I can only speak on how my firm approaches this type of situation and I can say that they do not often hire people straight out of medical/dental school because you don’t have the applicable skills but have too high of a degree for them to hire you into an entry level position. Basically you cost too much for the skills you can provide, if that makes sense. This might not be the case everywhere though! I would say try to find experience in the industry that you want to consult in and then switch to the consulting side at a higher position title.

    • @rolensmash
      @rolensmash 2 роки тому +1

      @@MomentsInMed thank you so much for the reply! When you say find experience, do you mean in the consulting part field or just the field in general? Like if I want to do healthcare consulting, would my 2-3 years of working as a student in a teaching clinic apply?

      The starting offer at my firm (small, NYC-based, health insurance covered) for someone with a masters was 65k when I started. I had direct work experience in a niche field so I was offered 67k and negotiated to 70k. Coming straight from undergrad (no masters degree) the starting offer was probably around 60k

    Hii! love the video!! I wanted to know if you need a masters for this kind of job? I am studying public health and business administration. I am thinking of getting into healthcare administration. Any tips in landing a job like yours? What key words would you recommend to look for when searching for internships?

    • @MomentsInMed
      @MomentsInMed  3 роки тому +4

      You definitely don’t need a master’s! I will say that if you are searching for “healthcare administration” you will get hospital positions, not really consulting. Really take advantage of networking opportunities and even reach out to people on LinkedIn who have jobs you’re interested in and ask for an informational interview!

    wait i love this. i’m a high school senior and have to decide what i want to do like right now. i definitely want to do something in science but my main concern is salary. i read somewhere that starting salary for undergrads is 80,000 in the us and can go up to 150 k in 5 or more years. is this true?

    • @MomentsInMed
      @MomentsInMed  2 роки тому

      First, you DO NOT have to decide what you’re going to do for the rest of your life right now. You should (within reason) follow your passions and I promise you you will find your niche and find a way to make it your career and sustain your life. The numbers you list here sound high for an overall average but may be correct in certain fields (e.g., computer science, engineering) and geographic regions (i.e., large urban areas)

      Job hunting can be so stressful, frustrating, and discouraging. Definitely try working with your undergrad career services office if you have access to that.
      Regarding the travel, most consulting travel was suspended due to COVID but many companies have begun semi-regular travel again as of 2022
