UPDATE: In case this does not work or if you are not willing to perform this trick, I have found another solution that works (might not work for everyone). Pressing the "home button" or the "power button" repeatedly (a few seconds apart) in a random order could fix the problem for you, as it has worked for me. It took me a couple of go's, but eventually it worked! Good luck! 😉 Do not forget to LIKE, SHARE and SUBSCRIBE!
I use the new trick prior to the old one, as it seems to have a better success rate; It is also safer and easier to use this updated version of how to fix the screen. However it takes a good 4-5 tries before it finally stays the way you want it to.
THIS SAVED MY LIFE. Omg I was so upset after a client dropped my iPad and they didn’t want to pay for it it went completely black with vertical yellow lines going across so I was thinking it was a lost case I looked the problem up and did this and it worked!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH.
HYDRA• ZENO Unfortunately these are the only methods I have found to work. 😕 If this does not work your best bet of fixing it is by going to a Genius Bar etc or buying a new one, obviously at a high cost 😔 I ditched my iPad when the grey lines came back and rarely use it anymore because of it 😢
I’m not sure if my problem is the same thing. I didn’t drop my iPad mini Retina. Here is what happened. I had charged it and got a black screen which has been happening for a while now. Got that problem solved by holding the home button at the same time while plugging in the charger. I know how to fix that problem when it happens. BUT, for the first time just a few days ago, my screen turned grey with horizontal bars (that is while holding it in the landscape position) and has stayed there since, except for about a minute each time I open it to use it. Then the grey screen and bars appear again and stays there while I’m using it. But then the next time I open it to use it and again, it’s clear for about a minute sometimes less. So do you think the slapping method will work? As I said, I’m not sure my issue is like the one in the video.
Valerie Townsend I did not drop mine either. I had it on my desk, and as I turned it on the screen was as shown in video. The second issue you describe sounds much like mine, but the bars appear both in landscape and vertical mode. Other than that it sounds like we share the same problem.
Alexander Borgen yes, the bars do appear both vertical and horizontal on mine, too. So the method you used in the video cured the problem for you? If so, I will try it.
Unfortunatly it did not last very long for me, but I have gotten responses from many others whose problem has been cured after following the instructions given in the video.
Both methods give me the same result, unfortunately. However the cure as shown in the video works for most people, and the second method also works for some people, but only temporarily for me.
Ok so the glitching thing happened to me before and I remember my iPad dropped and it was back to normal I was like that’s odd and today I guess the lines only happen when my ipad dies but anyways it died and it wouldn’t turn on without line and I couldn’t see anything thing and I hit it a couple times and it works
Hi!! Does this work on iPad Air 2? I’m scared to tell my mom and dad Becuz they’ll get angry So I came here to check if it’s real! Hope You reply The Lock screen is grey and so is my Home screen with grey lines :< I’m using my brother iPad Please Reply As Soon As You can 🥺
I would guess that it works for any iPad, but as you can tell from the comments it does not work for everyone. If not you should probably tell your parents to help sort it out
I am terribly sorry to hear that- might I suggest going to a Genius Bar in order to have your iPad thoroughly examined by certified Apple employees? My salutations.
yeah man.. I did went to a mobile phone technician earlier today. LCD replacement is what's needed. Cost me around $77 dollars. What's worse is that it hasn't been a month old since I bought this ipad online. No physical Apple store near me. :(
Put it in your fridge for 5 mins (iam not kidding btw) and it’ll be fixed try it you won’t lose anything if you don’t believe me do it for one minute and it will work temporarily but for it to stay working it has to stay for 5 mins atleast
OBLIVIONHD IS THE BEST Sorry to hear that. It usually only works for a couple of minutes. 😕 The problem is the LCD-chip. By tapping the back of your tablet you might be able to re-position it, but it will most likely not last for more than a little while. 😒
Alexander Borgen may I ask what happened to the LCD chip? My ipad is also showing the bars and I tried doing what you did but unfortunately it didn’t work :(
All I know is that the problem origins from the LCD-chip (I might be mistaken). I have no idea how/why it happened, but it looks like a rather common problem.
It's become obvious that Apple products are meant to break, quickly and often so they can keep making money. The list of people I know with crappy Apple products especially iPads would fill this comment page for a month. Overpriced and overrated dreck. And yes, I have an iMac but that's it. I want nothing else to do with them. No phones, no tablets, no music shit and certainly no subscriptions to any of their products.
Why do people blame other people (in this case is a whole company) for your mistakes, there is absolutely no proof to backup this conspiracy theory. Sure, if something of yours breaks nobody likes to claim responsibility for the problem, but chances are that you did somehow invoke the problem. If Apple were to design their products to break after an extended amount of time, there's a word for it. That word is fraud. And if Apple was committing fraud half the world would know about it by now, their stock would drop, and Apple would no longer be this widely used. Now, if you wan't to spread information so be it. But at least say it's your opinion and has no factual evidence.
You wrote "If Apple were to design their products to break after an extended amount of time, there's a word for it. That word is fraud." Well not necessarily, it might also be called "planned obsolescence", a recognised and long-established business practice. I'm not saying that Apple are guilty of that any more than other businesses, but on occasions, it does appear they are perhaps encouraging it more than others eg. a phone with a non-replaceable battery? Furthermore, when it comes to repairs, it does seem that with some of their devices the design is at fault in not only allowing, but also encouraging parts to break easily through normal, everyday use eg. the glass top and bottom sections on the rear of the iPhone 5s. So when we also consider Apple's attempts to disrupt any "non-official" repair of their devices (Google Error 53 for example), it would appear safe to assume that Apple acknowledge there is significant income to be gained from either repairing devices or offering replacements sold at a "discount" to customers. I think you're correct in suggesting the chances are high that the customer has caused the device to break or stop working, but where those chances have been increased by a design that fails to anticipate normal wear and tear, it's also possible to believe that Apple themselves are happy to allow that design to be put into production in the knowledge that the inevitable repair revenue will be welcome. But is this a conspiracy? Or is it simply a business practice? Either way, I do feel it shows a disregard for customers that borders on exploitation. Obviously customers are allowed to make up their own minds as to whether they continue to buy Apple products, they do have a choice, but in an age when the differences between manufacturers' devices are less than ever, Apple customers would appear to be more loyal than most - even when their devices have proved less than satisfactory, or inferior to any equivalent non-Apple devices - and Apple will surely know this. Lastly, are Apple's devices overpriced and overrated? I'm inclined to think they are, but that's my opinion - and it seems I'm far from alone in thinking that.
Eithan Hersey-tuit when I got my iPhone it broke in 2 years, while my dads samsung lasted 7 years. When I got mine replaced they told me that it was because iPhones can only run out of battery and be recharged a certain amount of times before it stops working. Proof enough. Also, to the guy with the IMac. You shouldn’t have bought that. It’s wayyyy overpriced for what’s actually given to you. An i3 processer isn’t worth 1200 dollars so you just wasted your money. You can build a similar quality pc with the same specs for hundreds of dollars cheaper. And if you just like the OS, than there are plenty of ways to make it the same on a pc.
Brian Alimohammadi the batteries having a limited cycle of charges is a physical restriction from the way batteries work, it is no way intentional. 7 years ago, batteries were completely different. In the time span they have changed to lithium ion (i think) batteries. Which have faster charging speeds, longer duration of charge, but a lower life expectancy. So rather then bashing apple and comparing them to to something completely different, do some research. Sent from my iPad...
Eithan Hersey-tuit - you might wish to re-read your comment, as it could be argued that you're "bashing Apple" yourself with what you've written. Certainly a deliberate change to a battery that has a shorter life expectancy is unlikely to be seen as an improvement by most people, instead I'm sure many would be most likely to see it as further evidence of "planned obsolescence" by Apple. As for doing research as you suggest, even a very small amount of time spent looking into the massive number of Apple Customers reporting battery life problems following Apple's iOS 11 update should be of interest regarding this (especially their decision to stop signing iOS 10.3.3 so quickly after that update, thus denying people the ability to revert back to an OS that suited their devices better). Please don't assume this is Apple bashing - it isn't. There's no need for that...
It didn't work on mine so now I gotta wait for like 9 years for it to fade I didn't even do anything to my device it just came on people saying it worked but no shit Sherlock
Alexander Borgen thank you for a quick reply. I know I’m probably not on the right video but I have an iPad mini 2 and I was in Walmart and I dropped my iPad. I do not have any further suggestions other than the one in the video and my pinned comment. If that does not work, try finding another video that is better suited for your problem, or - ultimately, take your iPad to a genius bar where they can fix it.

Happy to help 😊
Alexander Borgen do u have to turn off your iPad first, before repeatedly tap on the home button or power button?
in 70-s in USSR we fixed lamp TVsets the same way. nothing changed in the world.
So you burp it like a baby.
Basically.
