Amy Lee's voice is dark and beautiful. It is like a fallen angel, darkness overwhelming it, yet holding immeasurable beauty inside of the simple tones and words. The lyrics themselves hold more meaning than every modern song combined. These words came straight from the heart, straight from the soul.
My best friend died a few days ago. She was only fourteen.. I miss her so much. She was the only one there for me, the only one who seemed to care.. I can't believe she gone! I need her, everybody needs her we're all falling apart, school is just misery now without her. I just want to see her one last time
If any of you are wondering about the Lyrics, this song, as lots of Amy Lee's others, are inspired by the loss of her little sister at the age of 3. Amy would have been about 6 at the time. Clearly this stuck with her vividly throughout her childhood and early adult life and inspired this songs as well as "Hello", from the Fallen EP and "Like You" on the Open Door. She is truly remarkable, and sings with so much raw emotion that you can feel it. She leaves me dumbfounded absolutely every time i listen to her. I could ( and do sometimes lol) listen to her all day.
I used to cry alot while listening to this song on my CD Player. My dad Bought this Cd For me A long time Ago I just Burst onto Tears. I miss him so Much.
The song brings out all the pain i feel from the past to the future and now the present. The feeling of pain that you hold from all that have hurt you and those you have hurt feels like you are being weighed down and cant breathe..... i cant let go
Marie Smosh I read an interview somewhere and thats what she said about the song- Same with the song LIke you, she wants to be in the ground with her little sister.
Ahh my seasonal depression is about so kick in. I hate dark days! I need the spring to come back. This song is such a factor in determining my fate, it saves me, but makes me think about death at the same time. I love this song, but it is screwing with me so much, in a good way but also a bad way. I cannot explain!
+Boro Jen xX I'm sorry I just keep imagining your avatar saying everything that you just wrote. Of course I agree with everything you said, but because of the imagery that I made for myself, I just keep chuckling.
"..When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears. When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears..." Incredible words!! Hope one day I'd have the chance to, R.
😭😢😭 the father of my baby and I used to listen to evanescence all the time he learned to play this song so I could sing it for him ..I'm head over heels for him til the day I die
Every version of arguably the most beautiful song ever written is amazing, even the one performed by Ben Moody. I prefer this one due to the variable tempo of the piano throughout, really adds another emotional nuance. The overall sound of the piano is also darker and clearer than the band version, IMO. Amy Lee's vocals are more delicate here than the band version also, conveying more feeling. All this said, the band version has the edge in two areas: Amy's added emphasis singing the word "erase" and when the whole band comes in it is so powerful. As far as live versions go, the one on Anywhere by Home is the best I've heard and one of the most epic, soul splitting performances ever. This song is a gift, thank you, Evanescence.
Because it's one of those rare songs that looks past your veil and sees into your very soul and consumes you with emotions you have pushed back for so long
*writes a horribly sad character death scene to this song* Well, time to re-read it along with the song. Later... *sobbing uncontrollably and my mom is just looking at me confused.*
In the beginning I loved the radio version and really hated the album version when I first heard it. But with time, I began to like it more and more until now it's my favorite out of the two. :)
All the people who lost someone, they'll say it gets better, it does and doesn't. In time the sadness comes in waves instead of being constant, just enjoy the times when the sadness is low, cuz it will always be there.
Evanescence on ‘Fallen’ (2003) is --------------- Amy Lee: Vocals 🎤 --------------- Ben Moody: Guitars 🎸 ----------------- David Hodges: Piano/Keyboards🎹 ------------------ Francesco DiCosmo: Bass Guitar ------------------ Josh Freese: Drums 🥁 ----------------- All Strings Arranged by David Campbell & Graeme Revell
this version is better because to me it has a lot more of emotion in it. and you can tell amy sings it with so much emotion by the way she is singing. I shed a few tears every time I listen to this one. beautifully done by evanescence
Me 😂😂 Listening for so many years and I still love it, I kinda love most of their song. By the way Im just 13 most of my age don't know this band so sad 😭
its soooo ironic how much time plays a factor in your life: if this ever came on like exactly two years ago, i would crrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy all damn night long..... but now, its nowhere near as painful as it once was.... thats progression and i promise you whatever pain you have in your life just give it some time
I was a victim of both a death of a loved one and heartbreak of a long relationship both going on at the same time.... TRUST ME... it gets better, dont give up...
I don’t know how to go on.....can’t just turn my feelings off........ The pain is like nothing I have ever felt. Not sure how much more I can take. I just wanted to give my heart, but it was never enough for anyone. People want your soul. I have nothing left.........I love all of them, but none of them were willing to bend just a little for me 😢 Did I not deserve to be happy too? He will never how much I truly loved him. Fly away Bird, I love you and it will never go away! ♥️♥️♥️
I am so done with everything. Suicide is the best answer for me at this point I am sick and tired of people trying to dictate my life and telling me how I should feel and when and where to show it
guys suicide is not the answer... life is beautiful even with all the hardness... its always interesting.. u never get bored.. i hope god will help u all!!! never think of suicide...
Well said! Her voice is pure serene beauty shrouded in darkness.
a true statement
Dominic Morgen I love this comment, but posted it on every video in the compilation I'm watching
This is so good...This is a perfect song to make people cry. Especially to those who lost their loved ones...
When I hear this, it reminds me of my dead friend...
This always makes me think of sad times...
That note she hits shreds right through you. Send shivers down your spine and brings tears to your eyes. I don't know how she does it
Her voice could make an angel cry, so beautiful
My best friend died a few days ago. She was only fourteen.. I miss her so much. She was the only one there for me, the only one who seemed to care.. I can't believe she gone! I need her, everybody needs her we're all falling apart, school is just misery now without her. I just want to see her one last time
I am sorry for ur loss stay strong
Its okay, I carry the pain everyday but it will get better
+Akari Hana my ex girlfriend committed suicide a couple days ago.. we can battle these losses together.
This song makes you miss your friend more
Even if you could see them, what would you say or do? Better to be sudden and swift, a quiet death than the slow drawn out pain of old age.
This song is always beautiful, it reminds me of people I've lost, who were very close to me.
"There's just too much that time cannot erase"...
that's so deep

While you are correct that several of their songs were inspired by the loss of Amy Lee's sister, this song happened to have been written by Ben Moody.
I used to cry alot while listening to this song on my CD Player. My dad Bought this Cd For me A long time Ago I just Burst onto Tears. I miss him so Much.
this version is a lot better than the band version
+amk9591 I find them both equal.
+amk9591 It's a lot better but there was another version more calm than this . :)
Mohamed Fayed which one??
A version with piano and no electric guitar nor violin . Just Piano . Do you know it , sir? :)
Mohamed Fayed actually no, i haven't heard it
The song brings out all the pain i feel from the past to the future and now the present. The feeling of pain that you hold from all that have hurt you and those you have hurt feels like you are being weighed down and cant breathe..... i cant let go
this song always makes me cry
everytime I listen this song I start crying because it is literally my life in a song
I like the album version much better than the guitar version. This song made me cry like a baby.
Agreed, this version really comes to our souls and make us cry ;(
This is the saddest song I ever listened to...
it's really touching...
Sad because this song is about her little sister who died v.v

Marie Smosh
I read an interview somewhere and thats what she said about the song- Same with the song LIke you, she wants to be in the ground with her little sister.

I always thought about showing my mom this song, but the sentiment would be heavy.

I'm sick of this life completely. Too many problems. But there's too much I remember.

One of the best songs i have ever heard
😭😢😭 the father of my baby and I used to listen to evanescence all the time he learned to play this song so I could sing it for him ..I'm head over heels for him til the day I die
This song reminds me of the bond my sister and I used to have. I wronged her and now, that bond is broken; albeit very slowly mending.

Because it's one of those rare songs that looks past your veil and sees into your very soul and consumes you with emotions you have pushed back for so long
*writes a horribly sad character death scene to this song* Well, time to re-read it along with the song.

*sobbing uncontrollably and my mom is just looking at me confused.*

Finally found this version !!! Thank you
"I've tried so hard to tell myself that you are gone, but though you're still with me, I've been alone all along!" :'(
(2:32 - 2:41) (3:46) That has to be the most beautiful, somber, mournful sounding violin 🎻 I’ve ever heard in a song. 🥺😢
I miss real music like this. She's talented. Her voice is divine.
This song makes me think of my big sis and idk of it should love you elexis rip
this song reminds me a lot of my father...
i cant choose between the two versions because there both so freaking awesome

She also did a song with Seether, called Broken. It's literally a masterpiece.
