The most disappointing thing that was said here was it sounds like they tried to humanize Cletus. He wakes up and decides he wants to brutally murder 100 people today just cause, he doesnt stop until 100 people are dead, just cause.

I wish they let Cletus command the symbiote like in the comics. His psychotic mind completely takes over and the symbiote obeys his every whim. As opposed to Eddie who actively talks with his symbiote and even discusses things with it. Carnage is just Cletus with a power-up in the comics
Nope. In the comics the Carnage symbiotic and Cletus are both so violent and crazy they essentially become a single entity. That's why Carnage refers to himself as "I" not "we" like Venom.
@@churchofplatinum9685 Pretty sure the comic (and even cartoon show) state that Cletus is dominant over the symbiote. Then again, the comics never even had Venom's suit speak back until the late 2000's. No he wasn’t... at no point was there talk of canceling carnage from spider man comics. Todd McFarlane created venom and that was decades after when parents tried canceling comics. Do you even know comics or just movies based on comics?
Haven’t seen this but just as expected there’s problems having carnage whilst not being rated R… I don’t understand why though, Logan and deadpool 1 and 2 are proof R rated superhero movies can work and for some characters are just needed imo.
I actually liked most of the Carnage stuff in this movie. Just felt rushed and definitely should have been Rated R. Don’t really like how much of a goof Venom has become either.
Can we stop making these cringe comments patting Joe on the bottom like he’s 8 years old. It was understandable literally 3 years ago, but not anymore.
We all saw this coming. When it was announced that it wasn't R-rated, we all knew it was not going to reach its full potential. So an average score of 5/10 is already reasonable.
@Tig Black they said the same thing when the first venom came out and people said it was good 🤦♀️ even with the PG....(I'm not one of them I didn't like that one either)
@@raulh5457 venom 2 is trash and its ironic how carnage is the best thing about the movie, however it all is spoiled at the end with a very unachieving final battle. It would have been better if Venom couldnt have beaten Carnage the first time around maybe in prison and then in the Church Venom and Eddie are much more experienced and it would have felt much more deserving. Its not even about the rating but lame ass characters and by the end everything just felt too funky and Carnage went out by the hands of a very boring screaming girl that just seems to be in the movie so she can annoy everyone both inside and outside of the movie, rather than Venom himself. Like bruh why the f did she scream at Venom if she knows that Carnage is right in front of her. I know they had to make CK divide from carnage so they are not in sync but the way they delivered it is just plain idiotic. This movie cant go above 5/10
That's kind of wrong. Cassidy is twisted and has a twisted sense of humor. He also doses what he does for fun an treats is as a show. Actually, Cletus not hurting his followers is something he regularly does I think. He loves being cheered on, which is something that happens in absolute carnage and in some kind of dream sequence he had in the comics. So ye.
Killing Carnage is stupid, they should've had him come back seeking revenge for shriek leading to Maximum Carnage in the 3rd movie. Name the 4th, Venom: Along came a spider.
They could have done so that Venom left shriek to be alive..Aka not eating his head (something that had been a character development for Venom) Be of them trow Shriek to the police. and Shriek gets sent to a hidden military base, due to the govt wants to study him.

Carnage does not work as PG-13. His character simply cannot be done right without being R-Rated. He's a literal serial killer who indiscriminately kills people for fun. American Psycho is Rated R for a reason! He's even tried to kill children in front of Venom and Spider-Man! He will cut your head off and throw it like a soggy football. He is one of THE most evil Marvel characters
Watched this movie finally yesterday.. This movie NEEDED to be a HARD-R to bring out the absolute madness that Carnage can bring, similar to either Brightburn, or even Deadpool.
The simple fact that this is not a R rated film with CARNAGE of all characters for me makes this film a complete and absolute failure. You would think that after Deadpool and Logan publishers would grow some balls and make R rated films, apparently they're too god damn incompetent to even make an R rated Carnage.
I don't know Venom from the comics, only the cartoon and i don't remember Venom being this ridiculous. Carnage was a bit more bad ass but still, end fight was underwhelming and wasted villain.
The film writers honestly have no idea who Venom as a character truly is. After have wasted hours of my precious life watching these two BS movies I can tell that they’ve never picked up a 90’s comic book of Venom nor have they’ve watched a single episode from the 90’s Sider-man animated series in their lives. It’s complete obvious.
I didn't like it. The first was mediocre at best but this one just dropped the ball everywhere. Honestly, they really should scrap both movies and reboot the franchise closer to the comics. Venom is my favorite Spidey villain. One of the coolest looking villains in comic book history. These movies are just not Venom though and this movie sure as hell wasn't Carnage.
I thought we moved beyond the whole "Super hero movies can only be pg 13" thing. I wish the person making these decisions would realize it's better to have a good R movie then a mediocre/bad PG 13.

I completely called it. I knew the movie was gonna be another “meh” film, and I knew the movie not being R meant that Carnage was going to be heavily neutered. How are you gonna make a movie about a criminal-eating alien and a homicidal serial killer that has a homicidal symbiote… and not have any blood? Leaning into the comedy and away from the gore was a very poor choice. It also didn’t help that Andy Serkis heavily implied that Venom would turn out to be gay in this movie in an interview. Either Venom is now into men (which wouldn’t necessarily make him gay since Venom hasn’t confirmed itself to be male, but still baffling why Andy would say it), or Andy straight-up lied just to get the LGTBQIA community to buy tickets. Either way, not good.
No, he didn’t say it was a gay story, he said it was a love affair. It was the media which picked that up and ran with the idea of romantic gay love. There’s plenty of types of love and I read what Serkis was saying as way more platonic due to the fact he didn’t say shit about romance
@@TheOldBlackShuckyDog No, you’re wrong. Serkis literally said that Venom was “coming out” in the same quote that he mentioned the LGTBQIA community. He was clearly implying that Venom was gay to get that community to buy tickets. This has nothing to do with the media distorting what he said.
I'm praying that some day they'll release some sort of directors cut of both movies and have them be either rated R or unrated. With how terrible the editing is and the hour and a half run-time there's definitely extra footage that got left on the cutting room floor. I remember Tom Hardy said that there's 40 minutes of footage between him and Venom that was cut.
Carnage was so boring as a character. Cletus was fine, but Carnage was just like another riot. A deep-voiced sinister monster indistinguishable from any other. He's supposed to be a cackling crazy lunatic.
It's kinda ironic how Topher Grace would have made for a better Carnage than Venom as depicted in the Sam Raimi films. His voice is just sooooo creepy in Venom form and Woody just seemed like a giant poser the entire time.

Seriously Deadpool did it Logan did it why cant we get a rated R venom movie.
If this movie is a 6 then the worst MCU movie is a solid 8. This movie has so many technical problems with it's writing and directing that it's easily below 5.
Venom and Carnage have been my fav marvel characters since the 90s. They really need to just let comic book writers do their thing and stop washing it down so the kids can watch it
I don't think we could have gotten a proper Superhero movie with Carnage as the villain. Carnage needs to be a monster movie or slasher movie. Imagine a found-footage of Carnage slaughtering across a city like Cloverfield. Or an unstoppable slasher like Jason toying with his victims.
I feel like the Venom movies try too hard to be Deadpool. Funny antihero movies for more grown audiences. But the thing is they're not going to be funnier than Deadpool. They should have done the complete opposite. Instead of toning down the violence in favor of humor, they should have put the comedy in the backseat for a full blown gorefest. That is why people want to see Carnage. But that is sure not going to happen with a PG 13 rating. Also, the movie is waaay too short and fast. Cletus and Carnage come as fast as they leave. Great performance of Tom Hardy though, his acting and Venom are good. Hope they let him shine more in the MCU.
One of my main story conplaints was carnages voice. I miss the high pitch crazy offsetting voice from the animated series back in the day. This new one sounds an ass kicker and i wanted an insane symbiote like cletus is crazy
Disappointed in the Carnage character. Harrelson did an amazing job as Cletus, but should have been in control of Carnage as Cletus, not the other way around. Leave it to Sony to fuck up an amazing character. Harrelson was spectacular as was Hardy!
Did anyone else have struggles sometimes understanding venom sometimes I just couldn’t catch what he said cause of how gargled the voice modification to it
what this film needed was less character development between Brock and Venom, we should have had plenty of that in the first movie. This movie should have shown more of Cassidy and Carnage. Ann and Dan sub-plot could have been dropped entirely. We have absolutely 0 interaction between Cassidy and Carnage. Instead of gathering people for a wedding, Carnage should have been rampaging through the City, fighting off the entire police force, swatting down helicopters. And i'm disappointed that Venom and Carnage only meet at the end of the movie. I don't hate the movie, just disapointed that it could have been better. It really needed to be rated R. Carnage should have been slicing people up like fruit ninja, not just shoving them against the wall.
The film was terrible let's all be honest. Venom and Eddie have a domestic abuse relationship where venom keeps going into bad jokes to which becomes extremely annoying within the first 20 minutes of the film. Carnage couldn't be used properly because the rating doesn't allow for him, the whole ex girlfriend aspect... That shit needs to go somewhere
We need a remake with a director's cut or something, and make it rated R. Perhaps then this film can be saved. Right now, it's just a movie people watched for the post-credits scene.
They said Spider-Man 3 was bad. Now look at these messy PG-13 comedies they're throwing out left and right. My God, the writing on these movies is just... Ass! It puts fuckin Green Lantern to shame.
Great video guys. Really appreciate your take on the film. I'm also hoping for more and more of eddie and venom as thats a bromance that should flourish into a while series of movies and even TV series I never got that statement "were probably going to get down voted to hell" i mean why dislike a video because their/his/her doesn't share the same opinion as you? You should respect their opinion and thoughts on the subject. They clearly care about the subject if their prepared to make a 20+ minute video on it and if they give actual criticism on it then that's great! That's what writers, directors, developers want. Criticism! Not "oh its shit, dead game" or "horrible movie" no. They want a WHY you think that, whether it's bad story or bad mechanics, poor pacing and plot. They want to know what they can improve on. I mean if you state your opinion down to the least helpful word then its not going to have much of a impact EDIT: now I'm thinking about it, I'm trying to say that if everyone had the same opinion then that would be a very boring world. This industry needs diversity in its content. Doesn't need to cater to everyone Just some thoughts, sorry I rambled on for so long. Just bugs me
It didn't work for me. The only way for me to get invested is spiderman. I know boring but in the right hands could be as great story wise and emotionally intelligent as spiderman 2.
Nah having Spider-Man in everything lately is getting old. The whiny teenager thing is kinda annoying at this point. Either way, this movie didn’t work like you said
I actually enjoyed the film a lot. Even though it wasn’t rated R, they really love to show the headless bodies and let you know the people carnage slung around were dead. The way the characters acted was still brutal so I don’t have too many complaints. All rate R would be is blood splatters anyway.
@@oni1261 I don’t think it’s because of blood obsession but more that Carnage is associated with extreme violence because that’s his character. It just depends I guess
You guys are all missing the point . Carnage is not some nice character that makes you feel sweet ; he’s a savage monster that makes you feel UNCOMFORTABLE & shows the brutality of the symbiotes as well as bringing out the best in venom. Congratulations on missing the point
They are being extremely generous. This movie should have been called “Venom let there be Garbage” they didn’t take this film seriously at all. It was a corny mess.
It just still doesn't feel right. That definitely doesn't feel like Venom, and because of the way he's written, that doesn't feel like Carnage. I feel like this movie was just an excuse for the end credit.
the first venom was meh.. The end of the first movie.. They had the whole, we are venom scene.. So u would think they would be Symbiotic.. But.. They're not.. The first two thirds of the movies were basically like the first one.. 3rd act was awesome but I wished it had a R rating.. Didn't care for the shoed in romance of rip off black canary and cleetus... Didn't need the dynamic with Eddie's ex and her current fiance.. Honestly we needed an action sequence that made Eddie make the rule of no eating ppl again.. Could've had a mid movie battle between venom and carnage where venom lost because they were not symbiotic.. And then have the 3rd act play as is. I wanted to like this movie.. But I don't.. The after credit scene kept me invested tho. But that's it.. I give it a 4/10
The post credit scene is all I'm focused on after seeing this movie. I loved Woody as Carnage, he didn't disappoint as I felt he was a hand in glove fit for Cletus Katsidy. The post credit scene though...I wasn't ready for it. I just wasn't. I feel like this should've been Rated R, but I liked this movie. I'm glad that we got Carnage on the big screen, I wish they slowed this down a bit to really let this breathe like it should've. They were true to the source material somewhat as Carnage did run with Shriek in Maximum Carnage. (I'm going off of the video game, sue me. Also, that side scroller was AWESOME.)
Carnage in this movie was did almost the same way Venom was in the original Spiderman trilogy... A badass character that could have been a main villain of the MCU, but he just got nerfed and his character got changed for no reason... And now he's gone. Just got used for one movie... Wasted...
Congratulations gentlemen, yall are officially on par with the cridicts at Rotten Tomatoes... no that's not a good thing. You compare this movie to that of the MCU, when this is a Sony movie. When you compare this to Sony movies like the Amazing Spider-Man it's actually well above average. You missed the overall plot which is RELATIONSHIPS, hands down point and case. The moral being if you can't love yourself, or except who you are. How can you love someone else? Venom, and Carnage end up being the mirror image of the two humans amped up to 11. You are right to say there should have been more carnage, but you have to remember that covid shut down the world. Look at the lackluster movies that have come out besides Shang Chi, and you can see how most movies have seemed rushed. Unless you have a endless bank account like Disney it's going to be rough, rushed movies for the next year or so. The graphics in Venom 2 definitely destroy half the VFX brought in by the likes of the MCU, but yall don't say anything about that. When it comes to Shriek you say she's just a plot device to be used against who ever, but you forget that Rouge was the same way in the first X-men movie. After that she was dumped into the background in any future movies. If she had more to do, or fleshed out yall would have said she was focused on way to much and over shadowed Carnage. I don't hear anyone say anything about Anne being used in the same way as She Venom. Saving Eddie the same way she did in the first movie. I will say this, I think they should have saved Carnage for maybe the 3rd movie. Yet they had to opened/end this area of Venom because he's moving on into the MCU. I would rate this movie as a 7 or 8 based off the fact that Covid Still has some many areas needed to make a movie on lockdown. I'm glad one of you actually realized that this was a good movie. Yet it seems like you down played your score just because the other two gave it a 4/5. You can tell this movie was supposed to have another 30 minutes in there somewhere which would have explained, or added more depth to the overall movie. Just like what happened in Batman V Superman. I'll end on this note, and I hope anyone who reads all I've wrote understands the movie better... Everyone is entitled to their own opinions yes, but hurting a movies reputation simply because you don't get the actual meaning behind said movie is wrong. Off topic I do watch most of your content, and this isn't the first time the other two guys have totally missed what stories have tried to tell. On the other hand I still respect what yall are doing. I know its not the easiest thing in the world making content based on criticism so I say I love what yall do just please do a little more homework. Also, and this is the last thing.... It should be required to watch a movie twice before you criticize just incase you missed something important the first time.
they have overdone the comedy part with venom brook situations, feels too purposefully & in some situations were quite awkward & wasn't that funny at all. The final battle was too rushed & not convincing that carnage was defeated just like that, poorly written script & resulting in the whole thing not properly executed. It makes me feel like eternals wasn't that bad after watching this.
this movie was absolutely awful. One of the worst comic movies ever. Woody Harrelson as Carnage is the best part. I could see Tom Hardy being a cool Eddie Brock, but he's written so terribly. Joe's right in that it relies too heavily on the comedy and it's not even good. The Venom interjections/jokes are used again and again
I’m really surprised you guys didn’t shit on this movie more because I was also surprised how bad this movie was. I don’t think there’s anything redeeming about it at all. I wish Sony didn’t have the spiderman rights. So much wasted potential
Considering how many parents took their kids the see Sausage Party, rating would have nothing to do with it because parents don't heed ratings. Making it a Rated R film I feel would hardly make a difference.

I have a love-hate relationship with these new superhero movies coming out as of late. I love them because it's good to actually see your childhood Heroes being animated on the big screen for once in your life. However, I hate that they refuse to actually write the scripts properly. You literally have a comic book story, the story itself is already been written sometimes many years if not decades prior, so how the heck are they refusing to stick to the actual origin stories of these Heroes and anti-heroes? It's like they're intentionally trying to rewrite stories for some unknown audience other than actual comic book fans.

Venom and Carnage have been my fav marvel characters since the 90s. They really need to just let comic book writers do their thing and stop washing it down so the kids can watch it
I hope they redo the whole Venom origin story ... By copying a Spider-man story from the 90s cartoon.
People disappointed it’s not a R rated venom movie but also get excited venom is gonna be in the disney cinematic universe
Cletus and Carnage come as fast as they leave.

what this film needed was less character development between Brock and Venom, we should have had plenty of that in the first movie.
My favorite line tom hardy stutters through "im a boy and your an amoeba"
The film was terrible let's all be honest. Venom and Eddie have a domestic abuse relationship where venom keeps going into bad jokes to which becomes extremely annoying within the first 20 minutes of the film. Carnage couldn't be used properly because the rating doesn't allow for him, the whole ex girlfriend aspect... That shit needs to go somewhere

I never got that statement "were probably going to get down voted to hell" i mean why dislike a video because their/his/her doesn't share the same opinion as you? You should respect their opinion and thoughts on the subject. They clearly care about the subject if their prepared to make a 20+ minute video on it and if they give actual criticism on it then that's great! That's what writers, directors, developers want. Criticism! Not "oh its shit, dead game" or "horrible movie" no. They want a WHY you think that, whether it's bad story or bad mechanics, poor pacing and plot. I felt exactly the same, except I give this a 2/10 x)
Harsh. It was an enjoyable fun movie, nothing groundbreaking but definitely an above average experience
How can it be a stepping stone, when it’s worse than the previous movie?
That thing it's just a cameo. People is just taking it out of proportion. A movie out of it it won't happen.
Carnage in this movie was did almost the same way Venom was in the original Spiderman trilogy... A badass character that could have been a main villain of the MCU, but he just got nerfed and his character got changed for no reason... And now he's gone. Just got used for one movie... Wasted...
sadly, Venom franchise will never reach its full potential so long as it's not Rated R...
Jees just make your own video next time. Lol 🤣
Glad to see you guys got this review up so soon !
Clicked fastest than I could blink!
they have overdone the comedy part with venom brook situations, feels too purposefully & in some situations were quite awkward & wasn't that funny at all. The final battle was too rushed & not convincing that carnage was defeated just like that, poorly written script & resulting in the whole thing not properly executed. It makes me feel like eternals wasn't that bad after watching this.
It was the rating. Squid Game has way more carnage😂😂😂
this movie was absolutely awful.
I completely agree with OJ on this one. A below average film deserves the below average rating. I had such high hopes for this one too.
I’m really surprised you guys didn’t shit on this movie more because I was also surprised how bad this movie was. I don’t think there’s anything redeeming about it at all. I wish Sony didn’t have the spiderman rights. So much wasted potential
I love that Tom Hardy keeps saving this franchise no matter how hard Sony tries to destroy it
Facts
Truly a testament to how good of an actor he really is.
Tom Hardy was easily the best part of both movies.
Nah I came to see venom not a crappy Eddie Brock Tom hardy is overrated all he did was bitch in the second one
The reason why no R Rating is because the movie studio would like alot of family and kid friendly money.
Carnage & Venom is not kid friendly 😒
Considering how many parents took their kids the see Sausage Party, rating would have nothing to do with it because parents don't heed ratings. Making it a Rated R film I feel would hardly make a difference.
Spoiler alert:
for anyone who hasn’t seen it but I think this movie was rushed due to what is planned in the future
The fact that you have to put a spoiler warning for a non spolier thing shows how people easily get offended and triggered with something this small. Lol this isn't even a spoiler dude.
I really feel like an idiot now for expecting this "movie" to be an action film with elements of horror and dark comedy...oh well
This film deserves a 3/10. As a long time hardcore Venom fan I feel disrespected and I blame everything on the damn horrible film writers.
That and tom hardy crying the whole damn movie they should’ve just made it more like logan or even Incredible Hulk this just felt like an old couple going through a divorce venom being the guy and Tom hardy being his girl
I personally enjoyed this film for the most part. It's by no means perfect and I would have changed a good bit. But it's far from a terrible movie in my opinion.
I literally l struggle to find one good thing about this film. One decent fight scene thats it
There is no Venom without Spider-man.
