do 318 SS fasteners become less corrosion resistant after they are cold worked? I mean, is it the microstructure of the SS that affords corrosion resistance or the chemical composition?
The same premise applies to other grades of stainless, yes. Though some grades of stainless may be more magnetically-inclined than others such as 410 stainless, which is quite magnetic for a stainless steel grade.
Unfortunately, there are no markings are visual indicators to show if a fastener is magnetic or not. The only ways to tell are either to know your material properties or to test it using a magnet.
Mechanical fixations for stone cladding.. Basically a sheet of steel cut and bent.. Does that change the crystalline structure of S.S 316/304 enough to make it magnetic?
I do not think that it would be magnetic. Stainless steel fasteners get their magnetism from being worked due to a transfer of iron. We do not have a stainless steel sheet to test this on but that would be my guess and even if it was magnetic, the magnetism would be weak compared to other magnetic materials making it a poor choice if you need the sheet to be magnetic.
Albany County Fasteners thank you th Actually i need the sheet for food purposes, wich one would you recommend if you have knowledge in that area, and what thickens for whole heat distribution?? Ive been looking for all sort of info about stainles steel 304 and now this magnetic thing to recognise 304 from 316 its was really helpfull Your advises are appreciated thank you.
I once thought that stainless steel was non magnetic and because my cutlery was rusting I thought that it was fake but in reality, stainless steel still does rust but is resistant to a degree, if you scour and keep it near electrolytes and bathe it for a while it will change the properties of the metal to allow rusting or pitting, also stainless steel can also be stained with rust of other metals without effecting the metal beyond the stain itself, polishing can remove this blemish. At least this video explains the scientific portion of why it's magnetic, however even with the most powerful magnet will attract many metals including aluminium and I mean neodymium or even a electrically powered magnet that's found in industrial would pick up aluminium
Thank you for your feedback. We often film our videos in the warehouse during working hours and don't like to interrupt our workers from filling customer orders, even if it's only for a few minutes. We apologize for the background noise.
how do you identify 904L stainless
How do we remove the magnetic force?
@6:45 paramagnetic is the formal term, which occurs due to unpaired electrons in the lattice structure.
Tip of the day: increase the speed at least to 1.25 : )
Thank you for your feedback.
In the beginning, yeah... But the rest of the video is fine

To be exact it’s not the crystals which are altered. The word you are looking for is lattice structure.
helpful; a lot of convoluted explanations on the interweb.
Thank you for your comment!
silicon bronze is looking very appealing now. Glad you offer a range a machine screws in said material. Thank you!
Happy you are shopping with Albany County Fasteners. Let us know should you need help.
So much clearer now, thank you. Is it the same for 18-8 and others?

Thanks for this video. Was just wondering if the cybertruck was going to be magnetic. 30x cold rolled 3mm. So perhaps partly magnetic.
How can we identify if the fastners are magnetic or non magnetic? Is there any colour code/markings on the fasteners?

Great video, I would love to see 303 and 416 added to the mix
Thank for watching and we will see what we can do for 303 and 416 stainless.
What about 305?
How about stainles steel 304 sheet would they be partially magnetic? Meaning not hold the magnet?
I do not think that it would be magnetic. Stainless steel fasteners get their magnetism from being worked due to a transfer of iron. @@sokolbaca I have SS304 sheets attached to my gate. It has no magnetism. The same sheets are used as food grade for meat cutting here.
I want ss steels magnetic sepration
Excellent explanation!
Thank you for watching.
Best information very nice

thanks, great demonstration
great video. thanks

Very good

😂
Thanks a bunch! I was highly upset when my MTB, which is supposed to have a steel frame attracted magnets. I thought I was conned.
You're welcome! Thank you for your feedback.
Same reason I'm here. I just bought a stainless barbell that a magnet is sticking to. I was questioning it.
Fascinating. Many thanks. 👍🏻
You're welcome! Thank you for your feedback!
I have a 316 stainless steel railroad spike from Bnsf railroad it is magic but don’t rust
I have a 316 stainless steel railroad spike
Great you just proved to me my brother is wrong 😂
Happy to help! Thank you for your feedback.
Why stenless steel is not magnetic???
But it is partially Magnetic and depending on grade. You can google "is stainless steel magnetic?" Many reports from engineers.
I've purchased a tool from china and since it didnt stick to my magnet bar like my other stainless steel tools do I thought I was scammed lol
Nope! It's just the quirky nature of stainless steel grades and alloys. Thank you for your feedback!
This could have been a 6 word long video....
Cybertruck yes partly
You talk to much
I'm sure you do too lol.
