Mainly, it is the inability to find the server I am interested in, which always has several dozen players, and the lack of any servers in the search engine. Thanks for making the video. It’s so much harder for newer Squad communities to seed and populate because they only have a chance of showing up in the browser each refresh. Sometimes you refresh a bunch of times wanting a specific server and it never pops up, to the point where you have to doublecheck the community pages to see if the server is down. It’s literally stifling the community growth.
They could have avoided this ENTIRELY by just launching a version with both services enabled and keep displaying the results from Steam, but compare the server results in the backend to ensure that everything works on Epic before switching fully over to it. That would have prevented this entire bug and also given community tools time to update.
They could have prevented all of it by leaving the game alone and not trying to fix what isn't broken. OWI has turned into a greedy, cash-grab developing garbage ass company that sells out to China because they wasted soo much time and money on dumb shit that nobody asked for. Squad should have been finished 3 -4 years ago and everyone wants to blame COVID for why it took longer, bullshit. It took longer because rather than finish Squad they decided to take what were originally just mods for squad and turn them into full-priced games that they could milk the community for. Terrible company. Squad is still an unfinished product after 2-3years of "full release" what a joke.

I will bet it's not average devs wanting to do this but rather higher up management. Moi's points about how this could integrate other online services (some good, some bad) is probably more likely.
Redpoint Games is currently working on updating there EOS Online Subsystem Plugin to support epics new OSS v2 where this issue will be resolved. but that is in 2024 June. Ontop of that they could easily make a work around using the generic Epic OSS v2 plugin.
This has been an issue for years. I don't think this is exclusively an Epic thing as this game's server browser has been ass since the day I bought it (Alpha 10). I remember trying to find specific servers why typing in their exact names as far back as early 2018.
There is already emotes. If Epic Games kids get on this game they will roll-back the infantry combat overhaul and make it a casual game for normies. Ontop of all the server issues.
Spawn timers are pretty bad right now, and I've even been experiencing random spikes of some pretty bad desync (depending on server). This is a pretty big screw-up but the worst part to me is the total lack of communication we've received, we just need the reassurance that they are indeed aware of the issue, and currently working to fix it, that's all, so simple. Hopefully this changes soon.
Heli desync is the worst I've ever seen it. Used to be helicopters just stuttered across the map at worst (making them near impossible to hit with AA or RPG), now you are guaranteed to crash with a heli full of people because somehow your helicopter is flying upside down & backwards even though it all looks good on your screen.
The same thing happened when Rising Storm 2 was integrated into Epic. Voice chat broke, and all commander abilities had 0 cooldown, allowing them to be spammed infinitely.
Nothing like spending 10 minutes with my friends asking, “do you see Potato? No, okay try DoD, Empire you see DoD because I don’t” While OWI has been releasing updates such as skins and new factions, we need optimization and server browser fix first.
Totally agree Moi, how many new customers purchased the game over the Christmas break and thought this game is unplayable, must be loosing many $. Can't believe they haven't fixed it .
I never push updates on Fridays or before holidays… this is entry level dev stuff right here. Especially when the update isn’t fixing anything critical. Truly mind blowing.

I'm a almost only squad contents creator player in South korea who has been playing Squad for over 5000 hours since 2017. I would normally praise the Squad developers and the company, but I'm so disappointed with their handling of the v7 update that I haven't played for a month now. Even the controversial ICO update was a positive for me. Now, the game is now completely unplayable. I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like the performance issues have gotten worse since v7. It's almost unplayable. Well, acurately, I should say 'can't', not 'won't'. really don't know how they follow up on updates or how they evaluate risk factors to come up with such horrible results.

This patch also broke c4 explosions. The visual and the damage happen seconds apart from each other. Also some servers have horrible vehicle driving lag with this patch that is not explained with ping.
yep, mines too. we cannot get mines to explode half the time. just had a Bradley running over 6 mines last night and they wouldn't even trigger. everyone was so confused

I am in Australia and I can't get ANY servers to populate without refreshing at least 20 times! Then its just random which server will actually populate.
I thought it was an isolated issue, I haven't seen a lot of chatter addressing it and I am glad to know that it wasn't just me. OWI obviously isn't as worried about playability as they are about money. I am worried that squad is about to turn into a corporate mess just like Battlefield. Weapon skins, emotes, pretty soon it'll devolve into pay to play. But they won't care -- they will make money and market it - maybe even try to get the consoles on it too. That will truly be the end of this game as we enjoy it now. and a new EA games will rise.
i dont think thats entirely the reason, they are leaning into certain things that aren't important, but they also are attempting to improve good things, if they were all about selling out they would have never gone thru with this combat overhaul update, they would have just kept the majority happy with the run and gun play style. I just think OWI is compromising things in certain areas they shouldn't be, but not the ENTIRE game as we know it. But this server browser issue was non excusable, no reason to switch something like this on a game known to have connection/server issues, and then take a massive holiday, there is no way they weren't expecting issues from a change like this
I posted about it multiple times on OWI discord and got spam down voted and told by most people that it's my fault for not helping to moderate the servers I like and that the game is perfect and we should be restarting our servers every day and etc... every time I tried to clarify that we do, and all the moderation tools are broken, and that those are responsible for the crashes, people laughed, ignored it and tried attacking me more this time for playing on a "shit server" when our servers are one of the most popular ones in EU.....

It just took someone with a much bigger megaphone to finally put some heat on them. I am still curious WHY they made the browser change. Even if everything works we're still bottle necked at 200 servers because of EPIC.

In a way that is industry standard across all fields of tech.... the honest truth is, epic did nothing wrong and their tech is just as good in this regard as steam's, but we're dealing with very unprofessional programmers, a non-existent QA department, and general lazyness / mismanagement.

Recently trying to get a couple of friends into the game, and they both gave up due to us not being able to find a server we could all find. We live in the same house. We are on the same connection.
Steam Online Services ALSO allows stat collecting, but very VERY few games outside of valve properties really use this feature, which is really a shame. Its cool looking at all my L4D2 stats on steam itself
tbh, my problems not only i don't find my favorite servers, but also when i join, it takes long time to load all the assets on the map (i can't spawn on a hab), i don't see the players on both teams when i join after a while... i was totally frustrated and that's why i haven't played Squad lately...
The browser has gotten so bad that I open it knowing I'm never going to see a server I frequently play on. I just open it, wait for it to do the auto refresh that also changes the server you had selected before it refreshed, and then find the only server that has people and low ping. I'm seeing more Russian and French servers in my server browser than American ones.
The devs should be absolutely embarrassed. The audacity that they also sell skins now and they went on a extended vacation. The latest sale proves it. Several new players kept asking about weird things happening to them like gunfire coming from nowhere or having to reload their rpg twice and every 5 minutes i had to say “Oh don’t worry thats just ‘X’ bug… oh you encountered ‘Y’ bug, its pretty common just ignore it… whats happening is ‘Z’ bug and it hasn’t been fixed since the early days of the game. Happens to all of us” Like holy sh*t im pretty sure highschoolers with entry level coding can make a game thats not as buggy as this. And then we beg for an update thats soley for bug fixes and performance boosts but they keep adding these half baked factions that 90% of the servers will never run (Looking at you PLAMC and TAF). It’s not like there are modders that make twice as many unique factions with their free time. I really hope they do better this year
Agree. Also, although the infantry overhaul is cool, they need to fix the drunk-granpa gun movements on low stamina. Really, I have sprinted 300-400m with 40kg gear and I can still stabilize my aim to hit targets 100m or closer.
This is the only time in 8 years of Squad that my buddies and I have stopped playing specifically because of a particular issue. We have usually 3-4 of us and we never see the same servers to join on each other.
My entire clan quit as well. Back to ARMA3 and Battlebit for the forseable future until something else takes its place. Squad used to scratch that itch between Battlefield and Arma, now its just bad all around.
Don't worry Moi, Arma 4 will come out here soon. So in the mean time, just jump into Arma Reforger. I do it all the time when Squad pisses me off. It to is somewhat broken for now as it is still in development, but I recommend taking a look at it and give us your opinion on how much potential it has. Hell you might even like it.
its ridiculous that this bug still exists. IM in oceanic region and we have like 4 active servers and have to refresh like 10 bloody times to see them.
Brazilian servers, in addition to suffering from a BUG in the server list, some players spent all this time with a bug that didn't let them connect to the server, you entered the queue and when it was your turn to connect you simply suffered from a connection error which was repeated thousands of times, it became a complete nightmare to spend hours trying to play and every time the same error over and over again.
All my favorited servers were gone. And when I tried to go back through and refavorted them. But most I couldn’t find. Or/and 80% of my favorited doesn’t show anymore. The only favorited it shows me are the empty ones.
I remember reading something along the lines of "it is difficult technical and QA wise to fix the search" on the official Squad Discord a few months ago x)
Server browser has been broken for me for WAY longer than just since the recent update, I've had this issue since at least V1. Wasn't a problem in the remote past, but it has been bad for me for at least a year or longer (well before Tencent showed up). Honestly, I didn't even notice the switch to EPIC. That's how bad it has been for me.
Isn't the server browsing issue related to Steam's server browser ping settings? You need to set it to at least 1000 (some even 5000) so steam doesn't filter out some of the servers that doesn't respond immediately when you refresh. Never had an issue since I changed those settings. This is an old problem which is easy fixable. At least it was for me. But yeah it's not exactly great this issue is still there. New players would thing not many servers are online.
I'm so annoyed with the server list not working properly. I wonder if I walk down to OWI'S office and make a in-person complaint I wonder if what they would say ?

Tried to play today, couldn’t even get the server browser to find any servers. Verified integrity of the game on steam, restarted steam, etc etc. Nothing works

I dont know what it is with squad but I couldnt find a single server for the last year, but after the supposed update that broke the server finder for a lot of people i can finaly see a lot of inhabited servers again.
If Epic has a server limit at 200 servers, then the issue is that Squad is loading 200 servers and subsequently filtering them. They aren't making a request to ESG with the filters a user passes in. Thus the random results. A fix would filter the servers on the server side and not the client side. (Do note: I could be wrong about this, but my statements are still valid) As @MoiDawg said, this is most likely attributed to "stupidity" on the part of leadership. A properly managed software team with an experienced technical lead would never have pushed something like this out to production. The requirements the developers were given were not well-defined enough to realize the key differences between Steam's services and ESG. They would have written their acceptance criteria for the task in a way that would state that server side filtering is required due to the server listing limits. They would have also ensured they were testing the update with live server listings in order to make sure it actually works as expected. We've seen these types of issues at OWI over and over again. Their technical and business leadership is clearly failing with their inability to prioritize the right features, bugfixes, etc. I do want to mention, though, that when we are critical of OWI, it's important to remember that this is a failure at the leadership level. We can't be blaming the people writing the code, but rather the people defining the acceptance criteria and creating deadlines. In my work as a software engineer and technical consultant I see these types of issues all the time. Team members are pushed beyond their capabilities because leadership refuses to listen to them (lack of trust). It's a leadership failure that will eventually bring about total failure of the organization if not fixed. OWI needs to look within and start figuring out their priorities. You have a loyal customer base that wants to see this game succeed. Start showing them that you want to provide a quality product by doing the required internal work. Hire leaders who aren't afraid to advocate on behalf of their team. Leaders that will tell internal stakeholders "no, but here's what we CAN do". Remove leaders that don't. Stakeholders need to learn to trust their teams to build a high quality, fun game that everyone will enjoy and tell their friends about. That is what you hired them for.
I've been having tons or issues with the last update. I kept losing connection (I live in a downtown area with high speed fiber), and then if I tried to rejoin whatever server I was in, I could never find it. Also I'm surprised there still haven't been any ICO tweaks. I'm a fan of the ICO, but it seems like the general consensus is that machine guns are hardly useable at anything past 100-200 meters, and weapons with iron sights do not function as intended. But here we are months later and instead, server owners are having to implement mods that make the game playable.
If I search a server it’ll never show up half the time, in the past when I logged on the server browser would have tons of servers with a scroll bar on the right. Now, I log in, go to server browser and there no scroll bar because there is legit not enough to have to scroll down, there’ll be like 30 servers or less showing, spamming refresh seems to somewhat fix this however
OWI is just starting to behave like every other successful game company; aka greedy. As long as you are buying the skins/emotes + new sales from flashy updates, everything is fine. I also find it ironic that all the server tools break down and the community has to fix it. Literally pushing the cost of maintaining their multiplayer-only game onto you, the server owner/consumer.
MANY of the issues you mentioned were present well before they started using epic online. From personal experience i have had many instances of sitting in the server browser for up to 20 minutes trying to find a server my buddies are on as well as have experienced other mentioned issues ad nauseam. Idk what the problem is, but the server browser has always been a colossal pain in the ass they just refuse to fix
I just started playing Squad over the holiday break. Not being able to connect to the same server consistenly fast with my friends was the only complaint I had. Sad to hear that I joined in a shit time; however, I hope they fix this because the game is very fun.
while looking for the server I want I think of it like a little minigame of who can act faster: the server reloading and making the one I want disappear or me clicking join
If the devs need money this badly and are desperately pushing updates to please some other model, then they should consider a subscription model which should give them more freedom on how to develop their game. I know I know, am I crazy, a subscription model!? Let me "briefly" explain.. You buy a game nowadays for what.. $60, $70? Play it for a few weeks, a few months, a year and then never touch it again and that's fine for most games because they don't do online multiplayer but here we have a game like Squad that have players with thousands of hours in and still going strong so updating is important BUT their motivation to update is ultimately more important otherwise the game will eventually die regardless. If players really like a game and want to support it, giving the devs motivation in $$ to keep pushing development will keep the game fresh and players interested. I think if the price of the subscription is low, say the price of a couple of coffees per month, then I'd personally, actually be fine with that for a favorite game. If players don't feel that a game is worth a subscription, then let the game die, done deal and move on. People have to feed their families and players want their favorite game to receive love as time passes. I don't see a problem with SUPPORTING a game this way, especially one that has been at it for YEARS. With that said, I would want to see some accountability built into their subscription model, where the devs would release 3 major and 6 minor patches per year, at minimum.. and if the don't?? Then what?? Simple.. Stop subscribing. Right now putting in emotes, skins etc seems ugly to me . . But whatever, they're trying to keep their motivation going and I get it but a low subscription price should keep players interested without breaking bank accounts while still funding on going development. And this is coming from a person that HATES subscription services but if you want Squad to eventually die, then simply don't fund it. There is another big problem for the subscription model.. there's the temptation to cater to the masses and if that were to happen, out with the ICO and in with the typical fast twitch shooter.. yep, that would suck and if I was paying for a subscription, I would stop at that point. Nothing is perfect.. my simple point is, the game needs a dev team that feels like something is at stake and right now I feel like it may not be as much as we all hope it is.
wherever i play this game and some of ue based game. the server issue always happen (for me) example: squad game comes with the refresh issue doesnt refresh the current list server. but they are looking for other list server (with the moidawg illustration, the steam collect 1000 servers but the epic live service only collect 200 of them) and the insurgency sandstorm. i cannot find any custom server with in game browser. i had to do with steam server browser for insurgency sandstorm game. and the funny thing is, wherver i try harder spamming clicks on refresh. my isp given router in my house, always down to spread internet to my house. and it only happen with this game only, the other game inclding l4d2? nah they were fine
I remember SUB ROSA, super niche very fun multiplayer game. Community was all that was keeping it together. They updated it once, the server that was online for like 5 years finally shut down and everyone lost their progress in that server. Eventually another community passion server was created, it was fine for about a year until another update. Server had to shutdown, game has never recovered. So what you said about without servers, there’s no players, hit very close to home. Rip SUB ROSA
I had covid early in January. Nothing bad, just wasn't allowed to work. Was actually able to game with my old buds. Convinced them to update/re-install Squad. And it took forever to get into the same server. Such a bummer. I didn't even know it was this big of an issue for server hosts and other players.
To find servers easier favourite them and just keep reloading the batches until you see the yellow star! And you can also double click the server to join the queue!
as i player who often play on Chinese server, the server issue is even more damaging---some server have unexpected lower ping (far lower than the physical distance possible limit) and cauz game disconnect the server every time i trying to join. Not sure if this has something to do with China's firewall, some server always crash, which does not happen in the past updates.
It's really funny that dev studios keep swapping online services on their released games and encountering basic issues they should've been fixed. Seriously, it's getting silly how common this is.
What i did to help this problem is going through the Favorite menu. If you favorite the server, keep refreshing the favorite tab. It might take a bit to get them but the other servers wont be there.
The only benefit is on OWIs side from the EOS crap, speaking as a hoster we have had nothing but issues with EOS being implemented. This has been a complete and utter nightmare. They sent us back to square one on some things, completely broke others, caused us to touch every single server and introduced far more issues that we are still discovering each day. It seems like every time we find a new band aid for their crap a new bug pops up and is just as bad if not worse than what you were trying to fix.
THANK YOU!!! I've been wondering what the hell is going on with the server browser for WEEKS. I finally asked in a game the other day, after not seeing any posts about it on bug forums, and found that it wasn't just me. EOS is NOT worth it for this. Being unable to find servers in a consistent manner is ridiculous. Even the search doesn't work, so I have to spam refresh until a server I want shows, and then hope that the browser doesn't refresh while I attempt to select and join the server. I've closed the game more than once out of frustration from being unable to find a server.
You're not crazy. I didn't know how wide spread the server issue was, I didn't know there was an identified source of the issue, and I didn't know anything about all these "benefits" of the switch.
i usually type a random letter on the server search, then search, and then get rid of it and it gives me more options with better ping. idk if its a fix but it helps for me
this has been an issue for years, at least for me. When I was very active part of a clan, I could almost never find the server, even after restarting the game. I have always just accepted it as part of squad. Is this really a new problem?
the only server fix i want right now is that i stay in my queue slot when the game switches maps, it kicks me from the queue, loads everyone else in behind me and i go back from spot 2 to 12 or some crap when i have to refresh the server list
Of course, someone always gotta blame China. It's the company's poor decision and not listening to the player base. This is a mental note I'm gonna take, to listen and make choices carefully when I start my own game.
What can I do to stop getting ping spikes in lobbies that show the ping is low and in my area. Internet isn’t trash either. It’s only squad that does it
THIS IS THE FIX: OWI just needs to cache the server info from each scan and remember the server details locally from that scan. If the player wants to update the server info, they can click "refresh" then that clears the cache and starts scanning again. This is how most server browsers work, NOT LIVE REAL TIME BY THE SECOND REFRESHING!!!! COME ON!!!! EASY FIX! Also, this could be Epic doing the nasty because **** Steam users... who knows at this point.

Redpoint Games is currently working on updating there EOS Online Subsystem Plugin to support epics new OSS v2 where this issue will be resolved. but that is in 2024 June. Ontop of that they could easily make a work around using the generic Epic OSS v2 plugin.
This has been an issue for years. I don't think this is exclusively an Epic thing as this game's server browser has been ass since the day I bought it (Alpha 10).
I remember trying to find specific servers why typing in their exact names as far back as early 2018.
There is already emotes. If Epic Games kids get on this game they will roll-back the infantry combat overhaul and make it a casual game for normies. Ontop of all the server issues.
Spawn timers are pretty bad right now, and I've even been experiencing random spikes of some pretty bad desync (depending on server). This is a pretty big screw-up but the worst part to me is the total lack of communication we've received, we just need the reassurance that they are indeed aware of the issue, and currently working to fix it, that's all, so simple. Hopefully this changes soon.
Heli desync is the worst I've ever seen it. Used to be helicopters just stuttered across the map at worst (making them near impossible to hit with AA or RPG), now you are guaranteed to crash with a heli full of people because somehow your helicopter is flying upside down & backwards even though it all looks good on your screen.
This is real problem I hate that I can't play/find the same servers especially potato fields. :(

The same thing happened when Rising Storm 2 was integrated into Epic. Voice chat broke, and all commander abilities had 0 cooldown, allowing them to be spammed infinitely.
Yup and devs fixed only a few things. Voicechat is still mostly broken. Devs literally just sold out to Epic and abandoned.

EXACTLY. Surely OWI/Tencent knew how many servers they had, read the Epic/Tencent documentation and sent "Huh, We've got more than the limit. Do we paginate or just change the config?"

I'm a almost only squad contents creator player in South korea who has been playing Squad for over 5000 hours since 2017. I would normally praise the Squad developers and the company, but I'm so disappointed with their handling of the v7 update that I haven't played for a month now. Even the controversial ICO update was a positive for me. Now, the game is now completely unplayable. I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like the performance issues have gotten worse since v7. It's almost unplayable. Well, acurately, I should say 'can't', not 'won't'. really don't know how they follow up on updates or how they evaluate risk factors to come up with such horrible results.

I was ready to buy Squad 44 when they got control of it but this BS with the Squad servers has convinced me to hold off for a bit.
This patch also broke c4 explosions. The visual and the damage happen seconds apart from each other. Also some servers have horrible vehicle driving lag with this patch that is not explained with ping.
yep, mines too. we cannot get mines to explode half the time. just had a Bradley running over 6 mines last night and they wouldn't even trigger. everyone was so confused

I am in Australia and I can't get ANY servers to populate without refreshing at least 20 times! Then its just random which server will actually populate.
I have to completely reinstall squad to get one to show up. Then my game crashes. And when I go back in, 0 servers

I thought it was an isolated issue, I haven't seen a lot of chatter addressing it and I am glad to know that it wasn't just me. OWI obviously isn't as worried about playability as they are about money. I am worried that squad is about to turn into a corporate mess just like Battlefield. Weapon skins, emotes, pretty soon it'll devolve into pay to play. But they won't care -- they will make money and market it - maybe even try to get the consoles on it too. That will truly be the end of this game as we enjoy it now. and a new EA games will rise.
i dont think thats entirely the reason, they are leaning into certain things that aren't important, but they also are attempting to improve good things, if they were all about selling out they would have never gone thru with this combat overhaul update, they would have just kept the majority happy with the run and gun play style. I just think OWI is compromising things in certain areas they shouldn't be, but not the ENTIRE game as we know it. But this server browser issue was non excusable, no reason to switch something like this on a game known to have connection/server issues, and then take a massive holiday, there is no way they weren't expecting issues from a change like this
I posted about it multiple times on OWI discord and got spam down voted and told by most people that it's my fault for not helping to moderate the servers I like and that the game is perfect and we should be restarting our servers every day and etc... every time I tried to clarify that we do, and all the moderation tools are broken, and that those are responsible for the crashes, people laughed, ignored it and tried attacking me more this time for playing on a "shit server" when our servers are one of the most popular ones in EU.....

It just took someone with a much bigger megaphone to finally put some heat on them. I am still curious WHY they made the browser change. Even if everything works we're still bottle necked at 200 servers because of EPIC.
@@davidbartolini5507 Look... 200 is way more than enough... honestly. If filtering functions the way it is supposed to be. In a way that is industry standard across all fields of tech.... the honest truth is, epic did nothing wrong and their tech is just as good in this regard as steam's, but we're dealing with very unprofessional programmers, a non-existent QA department, and general lazyness / mismanagement.

This is OWI we are talking about. They are modders, not real game developers. To add to that:
- They are full of themselves
- They are disrespectful
- They are incompetent (there are still incredible amount of bugs from 2016 and the game runs very bad compared to how it plays and looks)
- They don't care
Recently trying to get a couple of friends into the game, and they both gave up due to us not being able to find a server we could all find.
We live in the same house. We are on the same connection.
Steam Online Services ALSO allows stat collecting, but very VERY few games outside of valve properties really use this feature, which is really a shame. Its cool looking at all my L4D2 stats on steam itself
tbh, my problems not only i don't find my favorite servers, but also when i join, it takes long time to load all the assets on the map (i can't spawn on a hab), i don't see the players on both teams when i join after a while... i was totally frustrated and that's why i haven't played Squad lately...
What is the solution to the freezing problem in the game?
The browser has gotten so bad that I open it knowing I'm never going to see a server I frequently play on. I just open it, wait for it to do the auto refresh that also changes the server you had selected before it refreshed, and then find the only server that has people and low ping. I'm seeing more Russian and French servers in my server browser than American ones.
I get no servers shown on mine bro. Nothing shows when I try and see what servers are able to be played. 😕
I deleted squad a year ago. These recent videos have really made me glad I did.
The devs should be absolutely embarrassed. The audacity that they also sell skins now and they went on a extended vacation. The latest sale proves it.
Several new players kept asking about weird things happening to them like gunfire coming from nowhere or having to reload their rpg twice and every 5 minutes i had to say “Oh don’t worry thats just ‘X’ bug… oh you encountered ‘Y’ bug, its pretty common just ignore it… whats happening is ‘Z’ bug and it hasn’t been fixed since the early days of the game. Happens to all of us” Like holy sh*t im pretty sure highschoolers with entry level coding can make a game thats not as buggy as this.
And then we beg for an update thats soley for bug fixes and performance boosts but they keep adding these half baked factions that 90% of the servers will never run (Looking at you PLAMC and TAF). It’s not like there are modders that make twice as many unique factions with their free time.

Agree. Also, although the infantry overhaul is cool, they need to fix the drunk-granpa gun movements on low stamina. Really, I have sprinted 300-400m with 40kg gear and I can still stabilize my aim to hit targets 100m or closer.
This is the only time in 8 years of Squad that my buddies and I have stopped playing specifically because of a particular issue. We have usually 3-4 of us and we never see the same servers to join on each other.
My entire clan quit 2 patches ago and are not coming back. Been playing since closed beta and the shit is just awful at this point.
My entire clan quit as well. Back to ARMA3 and Battlebit for the forseable future until something else takes its place. Squad used to scratch that itch between Battlefield and Arma, now its just bad all around.
Don't worry Moi, Arma 4 will come out here soon. So in the mean time, just jump into Arma Reforger. I do it all the time when Squad pisses me off. It to is somewhat broken for now as it is still in development, but I recommend taking a look at it and give us your opinion on how much potential it has. Hell you might even like it.
its ridiculous that this bug still exists. IM in oceanic region and we have like 4 active servers and have to refresh like 10 bloody times to see them.
I've been playing since V0.7 and can tell you that this has always been a problem. Their server browser has always been dogshit. It's not news.
Brazilian servers, in addition to suffering from a BUG in the server list, some players spent all this time with a bug that didn't let them connect to the server, you entered the queue and when it was your turn to connect you simply suffered from a connection error which was repeated thousands of times, it became a complete nightmare to spend hours trying to play and every time the same error over and over again.
All my favorited servers were gone. And when I tried to go back through and refavorted them. But most I couldn’t find. Or/and 80% of my favorited doesn’t show anymore. The only favorited it shows me are the empty ones.

Server browser has been broken for me for WAY longer than just since the recent update, I've had this issue since at least V1. Wasn't a problem in the remote past, but it has been bad for me for at least a year or longer (well before Tencent showed up).
Honestly, I didn't even notice the switch to EPIC. That's how bad it has been for me.
Isn't the server browsing issue related to Steam's server browser ping settings? You need to set it to at least 1000 (some even 5000) so steam doesn't filter out some of the servers that doesn't respond immediately when you refresh. Never had an issue since I changed those settings.
This is an old problem which is easy fixable. At least it was for me. But yeah it's not exactly great this issue is still there. New players would thing not many servers are online.
I have it always set to 5000 but the server browser is still fucked. It's not steam.

I couldn't figure out the servers, so I switched to Post Scriptum/Squad 44 instead. Good timing for that coming back I guess.
I dont know what it is with squad but I couldnt find a single server for the last year, but after the supposed update that broke the server finder for a lot of people i can finaly see a lot of inhabited servers again.
My company had a code-chill during the holiday. No new updates were deployed during this time.
If Epic has a server limit at 200 servers, then the issue is that Squad is loading 200 servers and subsequently filtering them. They aren't making a request to ESG with the filters a user passes in. Thus the random results. A fix would filter the servers on the server side and not the client side. (Do note: I could be wrong about this, but my statements are still valid)
As @MoiDawg said, this is most likely attributed to "stupidity" on the part of leadership. A properly managed software team with an experienced technical lead would never have pushed something like this out to production. The requirements the developers were given were not well-defined enough to realize the key differences between Steam's services and ESG. They would have written their acceptance criteria for the task in a way that would state that server side filtering is required due to the server listing limits. They would have also ensured they were testing the update with live server listings in order to make sure it actually works as expected.
We've seen these types of issues at OWI over and over again. Their technical and business leadership is clearly failing with their inability to prioritize the right features, bugfixes, etc. I do want to mention, though, that when we are critical of OWI, it's important to remember that this is a failure at the leadership level. We can't be blaming the people writing the code, but rather the people defining the acceptance criteria and creating deadlines.
In my work as a software engineer and technical consultant I see these types of issues all the time. Team members are pushed beyond their capabilities because leadership refuses to listen to them (lack of trust). It's a leadership failure that will eventually bring about total failure of the organization if not fixed. OWI needs to look within and start figuring out their priorities. You have a loyal customer base that wants to see this game succeed. Start showing them that you want to provide a quality product by doing the required internal work. Hire leaders who aren't afraid to advocate on behalf of their team. Leaders that will tell internal stakeholders "no, but here's what we CAN do". Remove leaders that don't. Stakeholders need to learn to trust their teams to build a high quality, fun game that everyone will enjoy and tell their friends about. That is what you hired them for.
I've been having tons or issues with the last update. I kept losing connection (I live in a downtown area with high speed fiber), and then if I tried to rejoin whatever server I was in, I could never find it. Also I'm surprised there still haven't been any ICO tweaks. I'm a fan of the ICO, but it seems like the general consensus is that machine guns are hardly useable at anything past 100-200 meters, and weapons with iron sights do not function as intended. But here we are months later and instead, server owners are having to implement mods that make the game playable.
If I search a server it’ll never show up half the time, in the past when I logged on the server browser would have tons of servers with a scroll bar on the right. Now, I log in, go to server browser and there no scroll bar because there is legit not enough to have to scroll down, there’ll be like 30 servers or less showing, spamming refresh seems to somewhat fix this however

OWI is just starting to behave like every other successful game company; aka greedy. As long as you are buying the skins/emotes + new sales from flashy updates, everything is fine. I also find it ironic that all the server tools break down and the community has to fix it. Literally pushing the cost of maintaining their multiplayer-only game onto you, the server owner/consumer.

MANY of the issues you mentioned were present well before they started using epic online. From personal experience i have had many instances of sitting in the server browser for up to 20 minutes trying to find a server my buddies are on as well as have experienced other mentioned issues ad nauseam. Idk what the problem is, but the server browser has always been a colossal pain in the ass they just refuse to fix

I just started playing Squad over the holiday break. Not being able to connect to the same server consistenly fast with my friends was the only complaint I had. Sad to hear that I joined in a shit time; however, I hope they fix this because the game is very fun.
while looking for the server I want I think of it like a little minigame of who can act faster: the server reloading and making the one I want disappear or me clicking join
If the devs need money this badly and are desperately pushing updates to please some other model, then they should consider a subscription model which should give them more freedom on how to develop their game.
I know I know, am I crazy, a subscription model!? Let me "briefly" explain..
You buy a game nowadays for what.. $60, $70? Play it for a few weeks, a few months, a year and then never touch it again and that's fine for most games because they don't do online multiplayer but here we have a game like Squad that have players with thousands of hours in and still going strong so updating is important BUT their motivation to update is ultimately more important otherwise the game will eventually die regardless.
If players really like a game and want to support it, giving the devs motivation in $$ to keep pushing development will keep the game fresh and players interested. I think if the price of the subscription is low, say the price of a couple of coffees per month, then I'd personally, actually be fine with that for a favorite game.
If players don't feel that a game is worth a subscription, then let the game die, done deal and move on.
People have to feed their families and players want their favorite game to receive love as time passes. I don't see a problem with SUPPORTING a game this way, especially one that has been at it for YEARS.
With that said, I would want to see some accountability built into their subscription model, where the devs would release 3 major and 6 minor patches per year, at minimum.. and if the don't?? Then what?? Simple.. Stop subscribing.
Right now putting in emotes, skins etc seems ugly to me . . But whatever, they're trying to keep their motivation going and I get it but a low subscription price should keep players interested without breaking bank accounts while still funding on going development.
And this is coming from a person that HATES subscription services but if you want Squad to eventually die, then simply don't fund it.
There is another big problem for the subscription model.. there's the temptation to cater to the masses and if that were to happen, out with the ICO and in with the typical fast twitch shooter.. yep, that would suck and if I was paying for a subscription, I would stop at that point.
Nothing is perfect.. my simple point is, the game needs a dev team that feels like something is at stake and right now I feel like it may not be as much as we all hope it is.

wherever i play this game and some of ue based game. the server issue always happen (for me)
example: squad game comes with the refresh issue doesnt refresh the current list server. but they are looking for other list server (with the moidawg illustration, the steam collect 1000 servers but the epic live service only collect 200 of them)
and the insurgency sandstorm. i cannot find any custom server with in game browser. i had to do with steam server browser for insurgency sandstorm game. and the funny thing is, wherver i try harder spamming clicks on refresh. my isp given router in my house, always down to spread internet to my house. and it only happen with this game only, the other game inclding l4d2? nah they were fine
I remember SUB ROSA, super niche very fun multiplayer game. Community was all that was keeping it together. They updated it once, the server that was online for like 5 years finally shut down and everyone lost their progress in that server. Eventually another community passion server was created, it was fine for about a year until another update. Server had to shutdown, game has never recovered. So what you said about without servers, there’s no players, hit very close to home. Rip SUB ROSA
I had covid early in January. Nothing bad, just wasn't allowed to work. Was actually able to game with my old buds. Convinced them to update/re-install Squad. And it took forever to get into the same server. Such a bummer. I didn't even know it was this big of an issue for server hosts and other players.
To find servers easier favourite them and just keep reloading the batches until you see the yellow star! And you can also double click the server to join the queue!
I just came back to the game in the start of january after 2ish years, I just thought there was like 100 servers and it was dying.

as i player who often play on Chinese server, the server issue is even more damaging---some server have unexpected lower ping (far lower than the physical distance possible limit) and cauz game disconnect the server every time i trying to join. Not sure if this has something to do with China's firewall, some server always crash, which does not happen in the past updates.

It's really funny that dev studios keep swapping online services on their released games and encountering basic issues they should've been fixed. Seriously, it's getting silly how common this is.
What i did to help this problem is going through the Favorite menu. If you favorite the server, keep refreshing the favorite tab. It might take a bit to get them but the other servers wont be there.
The only benefit is on OWIs side from the EOS crap, speaking as a hoster we have had nothing but issues with EOS being implemented. This has been a complete and utter nightmare. They sent us back to square one on some things, completely broke others, caused us to touch every single server and introduced far more issues that we are still discovering each day. It seems like every time we find a new band aid for their crap a new bug pops up and is just as bad if not worse than what you were trying to fix.

Turn up your max ping in the server filter. Normally it defaults at 150 max

THANK YOU!!! I've been wondering what the hell is going on with the server browser for WEEKS. I finally asked in a game the other day, after not seeing any posts about it on bug forums, and found that it wasn't just me. EOS is NOT worth it for this. Being unable to find servers in a consistent manner is ridiculous. Even the search doesn't work, so I have to spam refresh until a server I want shows, and then hope that the browser doesn't refresh while I attempt to select and join the server. I've closed the game more than once out of frustration from being unable to find a server.
Actually I do have a tip that kinda works. Set your ping limit to unlimited and you'll eventually get to your server
It still requires multiple refreshes to find what you were looking for.
You're not crazy. I didn't know how wide spread the server issue was, I didn't know there was an identified source of the issue, and I didn't know anything about all these "benefits" of the switch.
i usually type a random letter on the server search, then search, and then get rid of it and it gives me more options with better ping. idk if its a fix but it helps for me
I cant get squad to show its connected to Steam.... I've narrowed it down to a EAC issue. I cant open EAC to open via administrator.
launch steam as admin, eac is trash and they broke something a while ago. Spent two days trouble shooting and only solution was starting as admin

this has been an issue for years, at least for me. When I was very active part of a clan, I could almost never find the server, even after restarting the game. I have always just accepted it as part of squad. Is this really a new problem?
the only server fix i want right now is that i stay in my queue slot when the game switches maps, it kicks me from the queue, loads everyone else in behind me and i go back from spot 2 to 12 or some crap when i have to refresh the server list

What can I do to stop getting ping spikes in lobbies that show the ping is low and in my area. Internet isn’t trash either. It’s only squad that does it
Quick fix: If you want to play on Potato fields, write "potato" in the server browser search field and hit refresh until it shows up.
THIS IS THE FIX:
OWI just needs to cache the server info from each scan and remember the server details locally from that scan.
If the player wants to update the server info, they can click "refresh" then that clears the cache and starts scanning again.
This is how most server browsers work, NOT LIVE REAL TIME BY THE SECOND REFRESHING!!!! COME ON!!!! EASY FIX!
Also, this could be Epic doing the nasty because **** Steam users... who knows at this point.
