This is a bit off topic but, can we use any old AC power source to guitar pedals?

It's a bad answer but: it depends!
Most pedals take a 9v negative polarity power supply as standard. But, some older pedals (like a few of my old Boss ones) require a positive polarity adapter. Mixing the two up can damage the pedal.
Likewise, some pedals (like my older Big Muff) have a 3.5mm adapter instead of the standard barrel.
So, if you've got a few of the same pedal (e.g. a few Boss pedals that all take the 9v negative PSU) then you can use that on each of them.
But, I'd always recommend doing a quick search to make sure you're using the right adapter!
