For all of you who leave sniveling comments regarding my lack of knowledge on these great boats, let me just say this: I have a deep and exciting interest in the lake freighters, however I have very limited knowledge about them, as many of you have rudely said. I would like to know more about these iron boats, so feel free to POLITELY educate me so I can make better content regarding them. There is no need to call me dumb. We all learn about these things eventually.
It's awesome you got a salute! Some of these other comments are not so awesome though...it's perfectly ok to appreciate these bulk freighters without knowing every detail about them. One thing I didn't know until recently is that crane looking thing on board is what makes this a "self discharging bulk carrier" - under those hatches on top are massive cargo holds, and under them is a conveyor belt system that carries iron ore or whatever else to the arm, and a conveyor on the arm is what shoots the material off the ship into poles or hoppers or wherever it needs to go
I mean, in design yeah. But he's right in a way, they're both bulk carriers. The Transport just has the superstructure aft and is self unloading. So I wouldn't say NOTHING like it. He just said "iron ore carrier, like the Edmund Fitzgerald" not "this ship is the same design as the Fitz"
This is called a self unloader . Alot of what you said about the ship in incorrect. The crane as u call it is the boom and unloads on the ground or into a hopper . They could be carrying many different types of cargo. In Hamilton they could deliver taconite or coal , also the could pick up slag.
She hauled salt which shorten her career unfortunately. Miss not seeing her. But she lives on through videos and photos. She was replaced by a brand new ship called Algoma Bear.
She is awesome, even with her scars, she's a trooper. I love these lake ships. They're in a class by themselves. 🌹⚓

The assholery is unbelievable.
I know a lot about them, so you could ask me anything.
They're awesome, aren't they? Take my breath away! Very cool video, thanks!

Very cool!!!
The people applying sunscreen 😂
Canadian beach? 😂
This ship is nothing like the Fitzgerald. This frieghter is not house forward. Glad you got a salute.
I'm aware of that. Geeze, I just meant that it was a lake freighter.
That crane is to unload the cargo, not load it into the holds
Awesome spot!
That ship is nothing like the Fitzgerald. The Fitzgerald was a old school laker. This ship is totally different!
I get the point.

her last load was into Hamilton last fall with a load of iron ore and from there to Port Colborne to be scrapped. sad day.

On the Saint Laurence River
I watched the big ships in upstate New York
Post some of those passages!

We can tell your excited, but sorry the 'crane' is an unloading converyor boom. A great shot though 👍👍👍👍
I know this now, thanks. And yes, I was very excited! These great vessels are a Canadian-American legend!
@@Mister_Ess They are I deed 👍👍 🇬🇧
Did you film this last year? This ship was scrapped at the end of the 2023 season
Yes, I did.
The propeller blades force fish to the surface and the birds grab them. To answer your ladies question.
Oh interesting.
fascinating!
The crane is used for unloading
Will these Ships go on land too?
