That may-well be true. I remember IDS, William Hauge (spelling?) and Michael Howard. But, then again, Maggie (remember her?) took-over in 1975, was elected in 1979 and remained in power until 1990. And, my goodness, did she have battles over her competence at various points.
I have my doubts Kemi will be the Tory leader at the next General Election but I do expect to see some recovery for them by 2029. The right wing is hopelessly split right now between the Tories and Reform and now Reform is fracturing with the far right Tommy Robinson supporters. To get rid of Labour people will have to vote Tory not Reform.
Well, for democracy's sake, we all ought to soon. Because to not do so is to let the present government do almost as they will without checks and balances. Thus, we do not need to listen in support of Ms Badenoch; we need to listen in support of the country overall and ourselves in particular. Cheers.
@ Badenoch and Rishi do not actually lead or are a good opposition. Tories will lose again unless they find a charismatic, efficient and someone who can bring the voters together.
@ There is no way I shall defend the last government. However, the Labour government of 1976-79 was also terrible. As for Blair and Iraq.... We have to appoint governments, let them do a decent job, re-appoint them, let them fall-off, then sack them. In opposition, they can rebuild, whilst the new government is becoming "terrible". That is the democratic cycle. It's bad, sure - but the alternatives are far-worse. Cheers.
Well, I believe Ms Lis Truss is available. Then there's Bo-Jo. Both would need a shoe-horn back to the Commons but I'm sure many Tory MPs are expendable. Of course, even though he's been elevated, Lord Cameron would probably be the only serious candidate possible - and he wouldn't need to return to the Commons. Perhaps Mr Sunak could be his Commons' spokesperson (as Deputy PM?). Then again, it is possible that Sir Keir might be in-search of a new position soon... (Yes he could - Churchill was a serial-flipper!). I think the Tories missed their final opportunity for spectacular self-destruction: they should have appointed Michael Gove - the thinking man's tea-towel. All very silly of me... Ah! I have it. Using Sir Keir's new AI schemes, the Tories could produce a new AI Maggie! They'd all follow her. :)
@ Hi Paul. A tad sweeping? It is hard to heap praise on the conservatives at present (so I won't try!) but I do believe that most people (not necessarily all) are in UK politics to do some good. And, since everyone is somewhat different from everyone else, it is hard to justify a blanket assertion that they are all equally bad (or good, come to that). Everyone - even Lis Truss, perhaps - has their good points and good intentions (no doubt paving the famous road). We need people in politics and no one is perfect and the job, certainly at the upper levels, is enormously difficult. Yes, the rewards are great but so are the pitfalls and, my word, that pole seems to become greasier with every passing election. Cheers.
@MiscellanyTop This is the least UA-cam comment I've ever seen. I would also add - Kemi's niche is more food than medicine. She is not a Trump or a Farage, but more an embodiment of something the Tories should have been since 2010. Maybe not enough but it's an important ingredient to the right. She is the sort of person who would actually set about restoring the BBC, rather than abolish or preserve it as is. Kemi breaks the paradigm of Farage Medicine vs. Right Wing Water and Left Wing Poison.
Get over it...Kemi's unpopularity is largely due to her race. Otherwise, she's led an incredible or at least fair opposition so far, especially in these delicate times for the conservatives; not without flaws as with any endeavour. Criticizing KB on every granular issue is symptom of the real underlying issue, and Nigel Farage has also only capitalized on her unpopularity.
Playing opinion poll politics at this stage in the election cycle is pointless. Policy announcements are worthless if the schism that’s defined the Tories for decades is still there. There is also the consideration of Kemi’s history and what many in the electorate see as a citizenship of convenience. 2029 could be a perfect storm that finishes the party.
I think the Tories will recover by 2029. Not enough to win but once people get wind of what Reform has planned for the NHS a lot of disgruntled Tories will return home.
The purpose of government inquiries has always to kick issues down the road; to take pressure of a government and to relieve them from implementing many reforms. Err, just think the Labour Government's recently announced inquiry into social care.
No one listens to Badenoch, she inspires absolutely no one. Does her party ever listen to her, I believe not, so the Tories will not gain one inch in anything.
I think a new inquiry is waste of money. The last inquiry was a national one and went on for years. What are they gonna do differently this time? I don't think throwing more money to it will solve anything. The only thing this inquiry will do is make the victims re-live the horrors they went through.
We are 7 months into this parliament. Its like thinking your football team can win the league bwcause they are top after 2 or 3 matches. I wouldn't get carried away with polls right now, and the fact they have no policies and are sucking up to completely looney Billionnaires will backfire.
@@stevefoster5789 nobody is winning or losing votes, that can only be determined at an election. Answers given to a pollster are not the same as a physical cross on a ballot paper. Look at the accuracy of opinion polls over the last ten years.
If there was such a collaboration a lot of moderate Tories would desert the party at the next election and a lot of Reform voters would feel betrayed by Farage. The Tories need to hold steady, come up with a strong manifesto for 2029 and once the electorate get wind of Reforms plans for the NHS they will see many voters return to the fold. Reform is peaking now because they are the party of protest but most people don't really know what they are about other than there stance on immigration. Elections in the UK are nearly always won by whichever party holds the moderate centre most effectively.
@MiscellanyTop But not vote for her. I find her boring and will not vote for her, Leaders are supposed to inform and inspire the populace. Is this the best the Tories can do?

So was Rishi. We're still waiting for a proper effective and inspirational leader that can unite.

Grooming games: A tory problem they never addressed it and now this.
Started with Blair. Continued all the way to Starmer, and in between, they are all responsible.
Badenoch speaks, but is anyone listening? No, I'm not... 👍
Rishi was a more competent leader than Kemi & I was no fan of him either.
