Thank you Shirley. I must say the brightness of the lights from the drones really doesn’t show up in the video as well. But the way they all moved together was quite amazing.
Thanks for the video Grant, personally I am over the other side of the country so of course could not see it, however it was put together and flown by my boss, so it was great to see how it looked from a viewers perspective. It was also all pulled together in just 8 weeks, it actually took the whole 8 weeks to get the approvals to put the show on. Huge effort but looked great.
Oh wow!! Your boss did a great job. It was a shame I didn’t really know where to stand to film.. as didn’t exactly know where the show was going to take place. Not having some of the buildings in the foreground, didn’t really show off the true scale of the figures that the drones were creating. Omg.. It’s hard enough flying one drone.. the technology and programming that would have gone into that show is incredible. Most people have no idea the work that would have gone into putting that together.. even the job of putting the drones out on the ground and turning them all on in a timely manner wouldn’t be easy. Yes I can imagine that you would have had to jump through lots of hurdles to get the approvals to put the show on.. which would have been even harder as it was the first drone show in Perth. I think one had been previously done in Fremantle. Already looking forward to the next one Dave. I take it that you are a drone pilot yourself.. sounds like you have a great job. Tell your boss to get working on the next one.. 🤣😜. Great job by all.. and I’m sure there would have been some volunteers that would have helped with the show too.
Was a great show Norm, hopefully this will be the first on many to come for Perth! Agree, most people don’t stop to think about the what goes into organising events like this.
The drones put on a dam awesome show Muja.. They finished and left everyone wanting more! It was quite mesmerising. I did add different music to this video, compared to what was playing at Elizabeth Quay.. I couldn’t hear it that loud from where I was watching the drones from.
Thanks for that, we stood in the wrong spot at Elizabeth Quay like a lot of others, and missed most of the show before moving to a better position. Will know better next time.
OMG Steve, I feel your pain.. It was hard knowing where the drones were going to be. I had no idea.. just knew that had to take off from somewhere close (due to battery life) and they normally wouldn’t want to fly them straight above crowds for safety reasons.. But i was expecting them to fly into Elizabeth Quay.. its a shame that they didn’t as that would made for a much better show and everyone would’ve had a great view! Hope you still enjoyed it.
@@GrantMenner it was very enjoyable. Have watched a couple of drone show videos from Dubai and China on You Tube this afternoon, whilst the Perth Show was good we will hopefully see bigger and better displays in the future. Thanks again
@@stevepeters483 omg yes, I’m sure we will see bigger and better shows in Perth in time. They would be nothing like the ones in Dubai and China. They would be truely amazing to see. This was Perth’s first one and guess all the shapes were really 2D.. love to see those bigger 3D shows.. It’s hard to imagine the technology behind these that enable them to fly in such close proximity and in unison.
Wow, thank you so much. Great scens and I love the music. I heard about it from Curtin Radio but unable to get down the the foreshore too see it. Hopefully the first of many. I'd love to see drones used in place of fireworks in due course.
Hey Michael, Yes lets hope this is the first drone show of many more to come. Agree I think a show like this will just keep getting bigger and bigger. I must say the “fireworks” segment done by the drones looked great and it certainly got a loud response from the crowd.
@@caitlanrogers5468 OMG Caitlin that would be A M A Z I N G if you were my 1K subscriber.. Hope all is well for you. Thank yo so much for your support. So appreciate it! 👋😀👍
There's so every clever people out there! What a fabulous use of technology, perhaps future firework displays could be replaced with this sort of show. It would certainly cut the pollution you get with fire works! Quite amazing, I found myself try bg to guess what was coming next, a bit like an old fashioned dot to dot puzzle. Great accompanying music as always. Here in UK we are still cleaning up from the gales of storm Eunice, whilst keeping an eye on storm Franklin! Luckily, we had no damage, family members have had big trees down and damage to tiles and out buildings! Now we have to hope that all those tress that were battered but still standing following storm Eunice will be able to withstand another battering from storm Franklin so quickly in succession! Just when we thought spring was about to make a showing. As always you show us Perth at her best! We so wish we were there, but content ourselves with knowing we will be out there maybe next year🤞🤞🤞❤️ Take care 🤗 stay safe ❤️
Hi Rosemary it was great to watch. They were a lot brighter, bigger and vivid, compared to how they show up in the video. We didn’t know where the drones were actually going to be in the sky.. so we didn’t know where to watch the show from. It would have been great to get some of Perth’s buildings in the background, then it would’ve shown the big scale of the images the drones where displaying. OMG We saw how bad those storms have been over their in the UK. It has been on our TV news lately. Good that you and family ok.. we saw the size of some of those HUGE trees that blew over.. hope that next storm turns out to be a bit week. News has just broke here that the Queen has covid.. so hope its only mild and she comes through it ok. Spring must be around the corner for you guys surely! We are still having really hot days after days her in Perth. And they have just announced that we are opening up the WA border to the rest of the east coast on 5 March… (not international borders yet for WA). I’m sure we will be allowed to visit Perth again soon. Stay safe and as always love hearing from you Rosemary. Now.. to think of an idea for the next video.. .haha. ❤️😀🤗
Leo from Freo! Now that is a great Channel Name! Yes I thought so too.. I’m sure there was probably a lot of people that didn’t get the references and the significance of what the drones were creating and the history/story they were telling. Bring on the next drone show bigger and better!
@@GrantMenner they last longer than fireworks, can tell a story through pictures and they probably won’t start a bush fire. Very modern. Good video, Grant. (And , yes I know! 🐶)
@@LeofromFreo yes the drones defiantly can tell a good story. No comparison to fireworks there. Part of me does still like the fast pace of fireworks and the cracks and bangs.. The spectacle that you get from both are so different. One is slower and the other is faster.. I didn’t get the change to see the drone show they had in Fremantle. Shame I heard that was great too.
Shame you couldn’t get there Bob, know you have gone away.. It was really great to watch.. The video doesn’t really do it justice of just how vivid it was. I am sure this will be the first of many now!
Thanks for sharing, was a great show! I viewed from the Narrows and was a much better perspective of how big the display was with the buildings as backdrop, cracking effort to those who pulled this together, cheers!
OMG!! Thesatu! Wow what a great spot to view it from the narrows.. that would have been awesome view.. I thought they were going to fly into Elizabeth Quay and that I would too have the buildings as the backdrop.. but that wasn’t the case.. Yes the scale of it was awesome, but you did need some buildings in the background to show just how big it was for reference.
The News on Sunday the 20th Feb mentioned about the possibility of a Drone show replacing the Fireworks. Basically if the concept can be imagined it can be created using programming and this Drone show took that one step further and displayed the drone equivalent of fireworks as well as the light show.
OMG Norm, there was a big cheer from the crowd when the drones did the “firework” pattern. It went down great with everyone. Yes I’m sure this show will be back bigger and better.. guess we have to do a few test runs first.. However I wonder if the wind etc could cause possible issues of planning a big show.. could be a disaster if “on the night” it had to be cancelled because of strong wind.. either way// drones can tell a great story with the pictures and patterns they create.. its such a different effect compared to fireworks.. I still love fireworks too haha.. I want the best of both! Is that greedy? 🤣
@@GrantMenner I have never flown a drone, but can’t it be stabilised by using a combination of GPS, wind speed feedback and clearance from the other drones similar to Tesla Traffic Aware Cruise Control?
@@normnicklette5694 The drones are very stable to fly normally and I’m sure it was all controlled by very comprehensive software & programming.. but they were only small drones.. too strong a wind can blow them off course. I have a DJI Air2S which can fly in winds up to 37.8km/h.. and on windy days you can see the wind or gush’s of wind give it a wobble.. Plus I would assume the stronger the wind, maybe the more battery power it uses? I am definitely no expert. But guess that is why the drone show was only 15mins long… all the drones would have to be turned on first.. so some would use more battery just sitting there waiting for all the others to be turned on.. then prob takes a minute or two to fly from the take off spot to where the show is going to take place.. then all would have to return and safety land after the show.. so guess they would want to always keep some battery power up their sleeve in case something goes wrong.. Can’t wait to see more of these shows!
