Mate, this review is brilliant. Proper informative and in-depth. I'm definitely gonna buy one for my motor after years of lobbing the bike across the back seats. Great video, thanks mate. 👌🙌
I don't know about that I just quickly winged it. I should really plan it out in future had my young one in the back making faces through the tinted window 🤣 it's ain't easy this game lol
@@BeardonaBike- Honestly, You've made a bloody brilliant video there mate. Love the fact you had the little one in the back whilst filming....😂😂 I remember watching your video ages ago reviewing a rear light. It was such a good video, I went out and brought the same light!!! 😂👌👏
This is an excellent video. Thank you for spending the time to provide a thorough look-see of the rack. Highly appreciate it - and your camera work is top.
This is exactly what I've been thinking of a lot of the other roof racks. They look very wobbly, and I just simply don't trust solutions like that if you're going 60mph+ and also longer trips. I'm picking up a Thule Velospace XT 2 today and will start off with that. The one you got there might be something I'll consider later on if the Velospace XT 2 feels a bit much for everyday use. Looks rock solid at least.
Great video with helpful info. Keep on making those excellent videos! *On a funny note, your beard is a natural wind-muff for the RODE Wireless GO microphone :)
I have the Thule 561 cycle carrier which is In my opinion was the best bike carrier on the market. With the Thule 568 they have made some nice improvements that make for quicker and easier mounting and removal. If you are a keen cyclist, you can't go wrong with the Thule 568.
Honestly it's so rock solid, when I first got them on it was like driving miss daisy thinking the bikes were going to fall off. Now I'm like Lewis Hamilton driving to my destinations 😂
Can you leave the thru axle adapter tube clamped onto the carrier, and just slip the axle in and tighten it down? In other words, not have to pull the adapter tube off each time?
Hey Bro, Great review, very informative and useful info. I'm considering a roof rack for my VW hatchback. But over here in USA both Thule and Yakima racks cost about $1000 USD. Thanks for the good solid information. THANKS
@@BeardonaBike Just for clarification, that $1000 USD price would include the towers to attach to roof, the crossbars, and two trays for the bikes, and the locks. Definitely worth it.
Great review. I have one and also think it is brilliant. I agree the front axle handle should be lockable! How they missed that very simple yet effective solution amazes me! One big reason to buy the front axle rack and not the frame option is for Carbon bikes...
Agreed my carbon bikes are perfectly secure with no risk of damage or paint rub. I’m still chuffed with it. The lockable axle handle would be nice but not a biggie for me I don’t leave my bike parked on the car anywhere unless it’s a petrol station and in which case it’s always on sight.
Nice video makes it look easy how to put it together which it is, about the locks the original version did have locks on the front which made them more secure don't understand why I didn't keep using that system
@@jordanwilcox4723 just keep in mind that the locking solution of the bike isn’t the best. If leaving the bike on top for a very short while I’ve opted to use a large DLock or lock and chain and remove it before driving again.
@@jordanwilcox4723 Yeah I do around the bottom bracket and the bike rack as the bike rack is locked into place. There’s a rubber coated steel wire in the back of the top ride however that could be cut with a pair of house hood pliers in my opinion. To be fair I never leave it on top unattended anyway unless at a service station.
That’s right, the only thing locking the bike to the Thule is that plastic coated metal wire. A D lock would lock the bike to the rack but it’s an over sight on Thules behalf if you ask me. I would t dare leave my bike unattended on the roof lock or no lock to be honest.
Locking the adapter wouldn't work as someone could just undo the axle instead. This is a compromise with the adapters to fit all axle sizes and lengths. Some carriers lock on to the bikes through axle directly but this can damage the axle and even break them in half (alxes are sometimes hour glass- or X-shaped). With the adapters there is no risk of damaging the bike or axle but a separate lock is needed.
Great review mate and you've got me interested. What is the overall cost including the roof bars? Is there a local stockist near Halifax? Btw love your videos, they always make me laugh. Cheers
Aye up, bars are BMW original bars couldn't find an alternative at the time £230. Each Thule roof rack cost me £175 from Wiggle with a bit of discount. So easy and convenient so more destroying the car interior 🤣
@@BeardonaBike are both the fastride and topride strong enough for mtbs? Both have a stated max weight of 15kg which for the average mtb is only 3kg under max weight
@@stuartmclean3843 Topride is showing a max weight of 20kg per bike on the site I purchased from (Wiggle) so I'd say yeah. Another site I looked at just now shows 18kg
Have you tested it at speed? Thule say max 130km/h for all of them and while I wouldn't dare to exceed that with the wobbly, frame grabbing mount (which I own), I hope you could do more than that with this one? The same limit applies to roof boxes (130 km/h as per Thule's manual) but you can regularly see people flying with them at 180km/h in Germany. I try not to exceed 160km/h (100mph) with the box though. Have you tried this bike rack with real Motorway speeds? I'm thinking of taking bikes on a European trip, but If I need to drive at 130km/h I would probaly rent bikes at destination instead. Thx
Thanks for the review, it looks solid! Just wanted to ask, the silver bars and fixing kit, are they Thule Wingbar Evo 118 and Thule Rapid system 753 for this car?
No they are BMW original bars which I had to get because Thule don't make them yet for my car. Otherwise I'd have gone for Thule aero bars for sure in black if they do that colour. Yakima Whispbar also look very nice but had been out of stock for my car for several months.

Crazy why they went with the wire lock systems and not just lock the forks in. I’d still feel uneasy leaving the bike on the car even if locked.
you need to install the thru thing to your fork everytime you want to put your bike on the roof and undo to ride ?
