The prison cells here in Norway are supposed to make the prisoners life almost the same as if they would not be in prison and it works very well.
I live in Norway 🇳🇴
Norway is best 🇳🇴
it used to work well, the system is failing now. They are even sending prisoners to Netherlands because they don't have space
That’s not going to make the thieves learn
@@camuchoc5913 It’s better than the U.S which actively tries to get offenders back into prison.
i've studied about Norway prisons and i think we can all learn from it, rather than stripping away criminals their basic human needs and basically dehumanising them Norway creates a prison that allows all criminals to be able to reform and have a second chance in society. i heard that they also earn money by working within the prison so when they've finished serving their sentence they're able to afford food and other necessities out of prison rather than worrying about having no money.
But that makes you want to commit more crimes to get back to having a payed for life
@@TheZachattack73 exactly, and what if it is a murderer or child abuzer those guys dont deserve basic Human rights if they end the life of others. You dont deserve a second chance for those crimes. You have time as a kid to learn that not as an adult. If you had bad parents, well i feel sory but they should get what they deserve.
If someone raped or murdered one of your loved ones you’d be wanting them to suffer for the rest of their lives
Sure, lets give child rapists and serial killers the time of their life in a 4 star hotel prison. Sounds like a great idea, i'm sure their victims would agree!

I quite like the "farm your own food" idea if the prisoners are the ones working on the farm.
I like that idea. Because then the inmates literally work for their own food by harvesting it
Yeah that’s what they meant. They will be able to have their own farms with animals that they have to take care of and the fields to harvest for their own crops. It’s actually a great idea bc this way it would give them something positive and productive to do. And they only allow the ones who have good behavior. It makes the other prisoners have something to look forward, making them change their behavior and actions.

I'm a dispatcher/jailer in my county in Arkansas and I usually cook meals like gumbo, dirty rice, fajitas, and other southern comfort meals for our inmates. Seeing this makes me glad that we are able to make some good meals.
Wait until Arkansas catches up with the rest of the country and privatizes food service. You'll be pouring slop out of a plastic bag. When I worked at a FL prison in the late 80's, we had a former Navy cook in charge of things and the food was really decent. Now, it's not fit for a rabid dog. No more vo-tech training or college courses either. And don't even mention medical, which was crappy to begin with.
So, you should feel good that you're able to do something decent. At least for now.

I just remember as a poor Norwegian student renting a small student apartment where I had my own small bedroom and shared bathroom and kitchen (8 ppl shared), and it cost me 600 USD a month. I watched how our prisons were and thought to myselv that our prisoners have an easier life than us students. After living shitty for several years with hardly any privacy or food we graduate and then have trouble with finding a job, being in a deep dept. I graduated my masters degree in 2018, and I have only gotten 1 intervju, from actively serching for jobs (and having great grades and recommendation letters). I work as a teacher now, but still haven't been able to pay back any of my student loans.
I wish the state would spend more money on students, or at least the same amount as the prisoners.
Wow
You guys have student loans in Norway?
@@Vpentrov yes. A student loan of around 10 000 USD a year, and if you pass all your courses 40% is for free, so you have to pay back 6 000 for every year you study (this rule only apply as long as you don't live with or near your parents). I studied 8 years so I have a lot of loan 😅
Living costs here are really high so I don't think anyone can live just of the loan without family help. I and others have to work on the side to be able to pay for food. But even then we only have like 20 000 USD, and average salary here are above 50 000 USD. You are considered very poor if you have less than 28 000 a year. Food per month is around 400 to 600 USD and that's for cheap food tp cook at home and no restaurants. If I go to restaurants and cafés a few times a moth I'm above those 600 USD. Also good to know is that we pay taxes on everything.
Ok but we have a lot of morons in the states.. and our prisons are how they are for a reason..but I don't get why police and ambulance and jail time are so lax .in parts of Europe like the UK for example..but .here in Tx..were known for being tough but very few folks ever re offend after time in Huntsville..and the Russian grow their own food program sounds like something Texas can incorporate & sell the veggies to the farmers markets too ..

I used to be the kitchen supervisor of an Ohio prison. The potatoes we served in there were intended to be fed to pigs, and even had a "not for human consumption" warning on the bag. Sanctity?
The problem is that, with our culture (or lack thereof) a comfortable prison won't work to keep people from doing crime. Especially since poor/homeless people here use crime as a way to go to jail/prison for free food/room and board.

Imagine that - a prison that treats inmates like human beings and works with them to improve themselves, teach them skills instead of fostering more anger, and teach them about opportunities for when they get out. No wonder countries that treat inmates this way have low recidivism rates. But that's because they are actually rehabilitating them and not just locking them in a cage and throwing the key.
I work in a prison teaching inmates about cognitive behavioral techniques and substance abuse. We have some of the most absurd stipulations for accepting inmates into our program. They have to have under 4,000 days left on their sentence meaning that they will be going home soon and somewhere in there sentencing or case notes it states they have the need for this program. However, we have empty seats and inmates begging to be in the program who are in for longer than 4,000 days or lifers, they have the need but we (as facilitators) are told that our focus is only to be on those returning to society. This burns my a**. Like having inmates in prisons that are aware of their thoughts, feelings, actions, and consequences will not only benefit themselves but others around them including staff and the prison atmosphere. It is BS.
That's a bullsheeet actually. It's not even close to be true that those countries that treat well prisoners have low recidivism rate.

I was here before 500k on my other account glad for this channel to grow so much
@I Smell Like Spaghetti no they don’t it took them 3 to 4 years to get here
I subbed when they only had 1 million lol
One person I know that is currently in medium security prison in Australia said the worst thing about the food is it can be disgusting or mystery meat taste, he said not knowing what the meat is, is more concerning, sometimes it can be ok. He said commissary is the saviour
I think the cells in Norway are a good idea to stop criminals and crimes because instead of being harsh and giving them more motive, they give the inmates a good time and good times to think about what they did and will less likely commit a crime again or try to escape because the conditions are good
Fun fact: the "Prison Loaf" (aka Nutra-loaf) smells even WORSE than it looks!
In one prison I was in it's called "Rottweiler" because it looks and smells like it came from the guard dogs. Don't know about the taste, because I would trade it for ramen noodles.
@@PaulJones-dz5jr what crime did u do
@@human8985 destruction of private property, concealed deadly weapons. The convictions didn't more than a dime. The original charges could have given me a max of 25 years if everything ran concurrent.
To bad there’s not much information about a “jail” in the Patagonia, here in Chile. It’s a “Estancia” with only 18 or 15 inmates and 3 guards. They work , cook and sleep all together! Some of them have been so long in there and so used to be there that they refuse to leave! It’s like a family….a weird one though, but who I am to judge, lol!
Can you please do “Comparing office’s around the world “ next
That Norwegian prison cell looks nicer than my first apartment.
Worked in a texas maximum security mens prison for 30 years. The "food loaf" was reservations for offenders who throw food or better yet save it up in containers and as bodily waste and such, they let it rot and then throw it at officers. So yes food loaf it is!
It doesn't look so bad ...a way to be doing the right thing at the same time give consequences for crims doing the wrong thing
Sounds good, better than they deserve. Hmmm.....what would Stalin do with poo throwers?
@@ananamu2248 You certainly cannot reward violent behavior with no consequences. There's 2 types of people...smart & dumb. Smart says I better not do this because bad things will happen to me, so they behave. The dumb ones require a harsher approach to get the message on how to behave. Yet some NEVER learn and if released into society you will have lots of dead normal citizens.
Texas is a bad joke.
Well I'll be the one that says this. From my experience with Florida and the detention centers the food didn't look appealing but it was actually kinda tasty and they also gave seasonings/condiments with each meal. I remember a sandwich that they said it was pb&j but in actuality it was peanut butter, honey and depending on the person running the cafeteria that day it might have a hint of cinnamon sugar... I actually have seen people throw fists over them, they were really good and I actually sometimes make them at home because I just want a quick meal.
The prison food in Florida isn't bad atall!! I'm an ex CO and I used to eat the food every day!!
But that's in Florida
Yeah sugar is a hell of a drug :
I make a toast breakfast like that sometimes, adding raisins for some fiber and chewiness. Cinnamon really takes certain things to a new level.
Seeing Norway's prison cells: I don't wanna be free, leave me in luxury.
I was really looking at this vid with a lot of seriousness, the image at 24:46 cracked me up!
I've done almost 15 years in many different prisons around Pennsylvania and I can say no matter how nice or how good food might be some places, it's never a place you want to be... there really is no place like home!!
What did you do
That's exactly what I said
Well duh what on your bucket list, oh I know, how many prisons can I get in before I die !!!
Hey Brian Ross, are you a slow learner then???
@@itsnotrightyouknow "many different" is a clue. Some learn, some don't.
I freaking died when I saw Alabama gets a single slice of bread and half an egg. Every day that sucks💀😂
That would mess my stomach up and I'd break the toilet by constantly having to shit lol.
yeah the eggs at morgan county jail where like all in a giant metal tray on the cart they pushed around to the pods, its like a solid mass that they chop and chunk up and serve when they first get it out of wherever they make it.
Because Alabama is the most racist states in USA 🇺🇸
That's abunch of bullshit!!! The inmates eat MUCH better than that!!! Hell most inmates don't eat the prison food anyway. The mostly eat their commissary food!!!
@@brianhuntington6347 not in morgan county

Sad but true - our school system is over 100 yrs out of date - schools wer set up to make factory workers - thats why they teach basic math and memorization skills

Norway 🇳🇴: “let’s get some more stuff for our guest😀”
That room of triple bunk beds looks eerily similar to a room i stayed in at the Torres Community Homeless Shelter in Chico, California, USA. Pack in like sardines, food halfway decent...most of the time, uncaring, sometimes abusive staff and even gates that were locked at 6pm every night. If you were late for any reason, even if it was because the bus was late, you were forced to sleep on the street. We were even told at one point after one person complained about dinner being an hour late and then inedible "y'all should be lucky we even feed you." It's as close to a jail as you can get without being in one.
In England some inmates can work in a restaurant open to members of the public. It’s an amazing opportunity for those who want to head back to society.
Yh u mean D cap prison D cap prisons are open theres no fences no bars on windows in ur cell instead of the iron door it's a wood door and u get ur own key to ur cell u can go home to ur family on da weekend and u can get jobs on the outside
Awesome. Nice to hear
17:45 imagine if this image pops when you think about stealing something
I would love to see different life styles or hospital s around the world
11:44 I am never going to prison having the fear of people staring at my stick.
