Glad you guys like the tip, it is hit or miss with what they have in stock. Look. ; ) Im famous!! Save all that dust!! small chips are what give your scape detail and that dust goes on your superglue gel, when you super glue gel wood to your rock to plants to rock or anything to rock the dust with the glue is what makes it look like a part of the rock. keep a ziploc bag for each rock when you work with the rock do it on something so you can save it in your baggie.
Looking at comments as soon as we caught onto this they caught onto the fact that we caught onto this and doubled the price. Bummer. Still a bulk savings but MAYBE 50cents to a dollar a pound. MAYBE
Best tip ever, I'm always grabbing different stones from the desert near my house for upcoming projects. You just made me smile and the fed ex guy tired. Thank you guys so much, I frequent Lowe's alot and never even thought about looking at their website. Way to go Steve, you are officially the aquascape God!!!
Wow! That's insane! I've bought cheap river rock and lava rock from Lowe's before, but never would have imagined you could get the pricey stuff for dirt cheap from them. Thanks guys, and thanks to Steve!
I'm ever curious (& a little nervous) how a certain type of rock may effect the water chemistry. Stick with wood for now (I've hard water). As a viewer, I'd like to request "blue tetra" next to "green neon tetra". I haven't found a comparison video like that, so just an idea. ❤️
@@kellyd3364 yeah it's definitely important to do research on the rocks you're grabbing! I got some quartz from above treeline and I got some *basalt recently from tabletop mountain near Denver. Which from my research are both fine to have in aquariums
Just ordered 88 pounds for my two 75 gallon tanks that are in the works. The timing of the pro tip could not have been better. Now, I can spend my savings on plants. Yea! Thanks, kids. Yer awesome!
Really huge money saver crushed shell for African Cichlid tanks or higher pH tanks at Rural King or quality Farm and Fleet it’s about $10 for a 50 pound bag. Compared to the normal one dollar per pound $.20 per pound is great. It’s in the chicken feed area it promotes harder egg shells.
I have it in all of the tanks in the fish room that I just built if you would like to check out the video I will soon be adding it to my tanks upstairs also.
Yeah this is definitely a trick that found a while ago. They even have bags of pea gravel, polished stone, river rocks... For a half cubic foot around 50lbs for $4.00 a bag. I still got a whole bag in my trunk.
I just bought my rocks today... To big ONEs for $5 bucks each. They are about 4-8 pounds each... I LOVE THEM... Got them from my local garden and home shop.
Happy holidays..For all of you lowes also does open bag specials in their garden centers. Wendy and I got grey and black river stone for 3 bucks ( Yes 3 bucks for ) those stones. You can buy everything local but you gotta spend some time in the outdoor center.. even better deals..
I needed this video yesterday! lol, would have saved some $$. Thanks for the info though if I decide to go a different route! If you check the descriptions they will have different options for the same price, and it will say 5" to 10" and then the other is 10" to 15" so check which one you are purchasing if you want maybe smaller sizes or larger, also Thank you Steve!
Lowe’s once again being the MVP for cheap fish supplies. It’ll be fun seeing if there will be any fallout from fish keepers catching on to this deal lol
Thanks for the great tip! Such great rock -- One thing to be careful about with stone from non-fish stores and from gardening places or landscaping is that sometimes it can have insecticide residue on it, so I'd be sure to wash and soak it well before popping it into tanks, or so I've been warned. Looks like a great haul!
I've used rock from construction supply stores, great deals for the same rock without the massive markup, my shrimp tank has lava rock from a css. Another money saving tip, if you live in an area with usable rock, use native rocks. Right now, several of my aquariums are decorated with native shale from right here in Ohio, I bleach them to kill parasites, fungus and algae then rinse and have never had a problem. Our other native rock is limestone which I avoid because it slowly dissolves and makes the water hard.
Wow, dragon stone is $6/lb where I live, I thought I got a deal at 50% off recently. Thank you Steve and thank you Prime Time Aquatics for sharing this out!
😂😂😂 I’m so cheap, Lowe’s is already the only place I’d consider buying rocks. When I saw the prices of most sold for aquarium use, i said , “well I guess I just won’t have any rocks.” I’d already planned on only using rocks found on hikes or stuff from the hardware store. Yay everyone else knows this tip now!!
That’s an awesome deal !! I don’t know if my rock yard carries those types of rock as I went looking straight for large river rocks. They were 49 cents a pound, an awesome deal all its own if that’s what you need.
Oooh perfect timing. Just getting ready to rescape my tank. Joanna mentioned a more natural looking sand she’s been liking but I can’t recall what you said the brand was? As always, thanks guys, I learn a lot every week!
I was lucky and got Seiryu and Pagoda stone from the Lowe's deal. It was gorgeous! I just shopped Lifeguard Aquatics retail site, and they have a 10 gallon and 25 gallon set of Pagoda for sale. The 25 gallon is 1 large, 2 medium, and 2 small rocks. The 10 gallon set has 2 medium and 3 small. With shipping to my South Carolina home, that came to about $135 dollars. Amazon has the exact same items for about $84 shipped to my home. With free returns.
Red dragon rocks are actually petrified rocks that comes from rivers in asia with very strong currents that eat away the rocks over long periods of time and that's why you see divits and holes in them; I bought a set and the colors are amazing with mossy green colors, pinks and whites on it
This seems like a good place to say that I recently trapped a brown tabby kitten and named him Ohko (dragon stone). I'm trying to get him into a rescue in Phoenix in kitten season, wish me luck.

Thanks a bunch! I saw this on Lowe’s website before but was scared to get it because I couldn’t figure out what would be in my box so I just went to a landscaping store and got good ole river rock in a 5 gallon bucket for about 6.00 $. Now I think I better have another looksie! Some of the actual products from what I see say they are for aquascaping.
A 14" 10lb lump of dragon stone here in Czech will set you back nearly 20 bucks, so we aren't far off your prices here. I guess the benefit of shopping in store is that you can choose your rocks and don't have to take such large quantities. That said, seems like for you guys it is a great deal.

I work at a rock quarry and we mine granite that we crush down for construction aggregate. What, if any, are precautions I should take If wanted to try to use this in a future tank? I can dig up chemical tests we run on the stone since it's used in concrete applications and we need to know the alkaline reactivity, but would any of this help to determine how it would mess with water quality? We hit veins of quartz and have some very pretty rocks that we find.
It would certainly impact water parameters more if your water is on the softer side with a lower pH. You could always put the rock in a plastic tote and see how the water parameters change (if it all).
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thanks for the reply. All I have right now is a spec v but hoping to expand add something larger. Just have to find space in the house. That will give me some time to expierament a bit to see if it messes with the water parameters.
Nice rocks!! You confused me with regard to the 4th type; petrified wood. What you had there sure looked like petrified wood. Was it the redwood "red garden rock" petrified stone?
Mine finally came in just today man I am very impressed and shocked 😳 although I didn’t get them in with free shipping ? But still great for the price !!!! Can’t wait to start my new set up

I was able to purchase one box and went back the next day to buy more and they ALL are sold out. HAHA Good job guys! Yall should get a kickback!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Already ordered the large mountain stone!
One note, all packages are 44lbs. The 3-5" is $75, but still 44lbs.
It's $140 now...
@@Ice_Dylan So angry at how high it is.
Thanks for sharing. Do you have to soak or boil the rock before using it?
Don’t boil it because some rocks can explode, but soaking them in a 10% bleach solution for a day helps (and then rinse them off).
I actually seen these on the website but was weary that they weren't the stones that they looked like. I will for sure being ordering some tonight.
This is so amazing! Sadly I don't think these are sold at Lowe's in Canada.
Might need to call the store to confirm...
Nice rocks!! You confused me with regard to the 4th type; petrified wood. What you had there sure looked like petrified wood. Was it the redwood "red garden rock" petrified stone?
Yep
@@PrimeTimeAquatics That was the fastest $82 I didn't know I needed to spend!
you two.... you two are the real MVPs of my future aquascapes.
You two are the best! Thanks for sharing this awesome deal!
You are so welcome!
$3.99 a pound would be a HUGE deal where I am in central Canada... try 6.99/lb or more here ($5.50+/lb in US dollars)
Wow that’s a lot!
I was so excited and then not...I have one aquarium I can't use a 44 lbs. of stone. But I am happy for those that have many aquariums.
Wow been debating on trying these out for past 4 months definitely going to order some soon
I have a 75 gallon tank wandering is their a limit on the weight of rocks ? I don't want to have the bottom fall out .
That's awsome 😀 now for the fun part
Time to start aquascaping and pulling out you hair trying to design then redesign and maybe redesign again.
You’ve got that right!
Such a win! I’ve been trying to find them but they are always out of stock. Im pretty sure they sell driftwood to enjoy the rocks! :)
Thanks for the info, I ordered my box of dragon rock 5 minutes into the video, also thank you Steve.🤓
LoL, Another guy announced the same thing. Now it's been pulled and the price will go up to 100% more! Thanks 👍
Ya, I think they were sold out a day after we did the video a couple weeks ago.
Mine finally came in just today man I am very impressed and shocked 😳 although I didn’t get them in with free shipping ? But still great for the price !!!! Can’t wait to start my new set up
Very cool!
Thank you for the heads up. Finding rocks for our aquariums has led me to the rock hunting hobby, lol.
The landscaping industry finally caught on to dragonstone and other aquascaping rocks--feel like I've been waiting years for it to happen!
Thanks Steve! As well as the enablers, Jason and Joanna, Just placed my first order with Lowes for more ROCKs. Don't tell my husband lol!
Way to go Steve!!!💪💪💪

You know what's cheap AND natural? Getting rocks from rivers from where you live if possible 😊
