Just imagine how busy this railway would be now if it still existed! Such a shocking waste!

I've seen photos of it. It was so busy it even had it's own Post Office on one of the platforms. Today it would be a magnificent tourist route. They just went too far in enacting the Beeching Report.

That was magnificent footage. I'm sorry to see the landing ended badly but I hope you weren't too disheartened. As the old airman's ditty goes "They say in the Air Force a landings OK if it ends in a "ground loop" but you still walk away. But in the Fleet Air Arm the prospects are grim if you land in the "oggin" & the pilot can't swim." (WW2 era). "Take these broken wings & learn to fly again, learn to live so free." (Mister Mister).

Is there any chance that this line could be relaid in 2020 onwards as railway`s are being re opened everywhere in the country ?.

It should never have been closed! Haddon Hall is a real thorn in the flesh of it ever reopening.

That was the original objective of the "Peak Rail' heritage railway. Since it's now so popular with walkers & cyclists, & standard gauge railways are more expensive to build & maintain I think they should relay the track in 15 inch gauge. It worked successfully for the "Bure Valley Railway." It means folks can use the adjacent path to walk or cycle the length of the railway then catch the train back. It would be a win win objective.

I think a single line with some passing points so you could still walk it but use it as a Heritage line and maybe even for freight at night to free up the roads a bit might potentially suit everyone...

Such a waste, it should be brought back into use now with all the traffic on the roads and the polution cars and lorries cause.
