She understands what she is saying, and the piano accompaniment is near perfection.
From the small amount I know about this most wonderful singer, German is as much her native language as Arabic. She sings this song with deep love, with true emotion. It comes through in every word, every phrase, every nuance. I have listened to her sing this song many times, and each time it is touching in a new way. The musical world is a better place because she is in it. Thank you so much, Fatma and Joseph.

Mir ging es ebenso, heute im DFL zum ersten Mal gehört, von Rafael Fingerlos gesungen. Ich glaube, es ist außer der Empathie dieser Sänger die Musik, die Melodienfolge, die mich so sehr berührte…Allerdings haben Fatma Said und auch Rafael Fingerlos beide die Gabe, sich sehr zurück zu nehmen, einfach schön.
Als ehemal.Musikalienhändlerin hatte ich so viel mit Musik zu tun, ich höre so viel, ich liebe Musik,aber diesmal…so ein kleines Lied, so viel Größe..

Magnifique! Dieses Lied ist schon für einen Deutschen, sogar Dialektsprecher, extrem schwierig zu singen, da es zwischen schwäbisch-bayrischem Dialekt und Hochsprache laviert. Fatma Said findet einen Mittelweg, der mir zumindest den Atem stocken lässt voll Schönheit. Bravo-bravissimo! Bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass Fatma Said die neue Callas-Netrebko-was immer wird. Die Anlagen hat sie dazu.

That was beautifully sung. Great spiritual understanding, perfect German phrasing and vibrato control. Sensitive accompaniment on a well-tuned and prepared piano. Would be great to hear more Lieder from this artist.

so much emotions in there. i dont understand german but ive studied it for 3 years at school and by just understanding 2 or three words from the lyrics i figured out what the song actually says and thats so weird but true her passions and emotions had deliverd the litteral message so beautifully that i just by looking at her have felt the lyrics so deeply incredible and im happy to have gone through such experience

Hmmmmm, nein, Callas bleibt, die Callas ist eine noch größere Hausnummer, das zeigt sich jetzt, nach 3 Jahren. Es ist still geworden um Frau Said.
Schade. Der Sopran ist wunderbar, die Aussprache macht mich sprachlos. Und auch noch eine bildhübsche Frau.

One of my favorite songs from Volkslied, beautifully sung but I have to confess that my preferred version is Schwarzkopf--not the duet version she made with Fischer-Dieskau but an earlier solo version. ES made so much of the text and Said with her long experience in Germany could do the same. J.B. Steane prefers the Seefried which alas is not available on YT.
Dieses Brahms-Lied haben schon viele berühmte Operndiven gesungen - keine von ihnen aber inniger und schöner als Fatma.
