    I have the navy blue pocket journal and like the zip set up. I pair it with my Pilot Elite unless I’m going outdoors. It pairs with my liliput.

    Thanks for the review. I've had my eye on both those notebooks, it's good to see them side by side.

    Those "Machine Era" pens look good. I might road test one of those. Thanks for the inspiration.

      I'm a fan of Machine Era Pens, but they do run a bit small, especially the Markup (the one with the threaded cap). But the build quality is solid considering the price. 😀

    The little pocket on the front loosens up over time. I keep a Traveler’s company brass pen in there. Works fine.

      I've never used a Traveler's Company pen, but I've heard good things about it and it seems like a choice for this kind of notebook.

    I really appreciate your REAL-DEAL review, of this pocket book cover...with all it's shortcomings..lol
    Amazon + taxes= $ 50 we pay , for this Lochby notebook cover...
    I had to settle for 2x Pocket Leather Field book cover and the (8x) Field Books to go with it .... 3 x Moleskine (dotted) & 5 Field 3x5 notebooks (Graph paper).
    I can Stack 4 books in the Pocket Leather Cover nicely.
    Grand total $40 cad amazon.

      I like your set up! At some point I'd like to try to design a replacement for my Lochby pocket size that works better for me. That means it has more space and can function as a combination notebook/EDC pouch. Unfortunately, even if I use some recycled material, I'd still have to buy something to use as a liner. I guess before I go to that extreme I need to test a few other setups in my Lochby. 😀

    Two space pen bullets fit in the pen slot. I dont need the clip as I just push it up with my fingers. It holds both fine.

    I've had one of these for a few years now, it's great. Karas Pen Co EDK V2 rollerball retractable fits great, although the top does stick out just a bit above the top of the journal. The Slim pens from Tactile Turn also fit great - especially the Smooth Operator bolt action. Most of TT's pens have a nice grippy texture for the whole length of the pen that is great in the hand, but makes it wear a bit on the fabric, but the Smooth Operator doesn't have that texturing and fits like a glove.

      Well, Scott, now you've got me looking at pens from Karas. The exterior pockets are ideal for machined metal pens. I've always liked the look of pens from Karas Pen Co and Tactile Turn, but I thought they would be too heavy for me. However, after using the large titanium ballpoint pen from Bastion, I might be ready to give a titanium fountain pen a try. Also, I hadn't heard of the Smooth Operator from TT. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the info! 😀

    I enjoy the Lochby notebook covers and have two -- a black one for work and a brown one for personal stuff. In the personal, I keep two Lochby notebboks with the covers tucked in -- one in the back and one in the front. That limits access to the interior pocket but I'm OK with that. I do wish the outer pockets were not quite so tight. The narrow pen pocket is not that useful. The only fountain pens I have that fit in it are a Diplomat Traveler and a Parker 45, but they're in there so tight that you have to be careful not to uncap the pen when you remove it (you have to grasp the whole pen or only the top part of it comes out). Also, the stiff tape binding at the top would scratch a pen that wasn't metal.The outer back pocket is somewhat easier to access if you open the notebook cover wide first. I guess I'm not cramming as much in there as others are, and I do wish there was a slightly looser pen pocket, but I love the waxed canvas and I agree that the zipper is great. Overalk, the quality of Lochby products is excellent. And I appreciate the fact that their notebbok refills come in dot grid, blank, and two widths of ruled paper.

      This is my first experience with waxed canvas and I can now say I'm a fan. I agree, it would be nice if the pen pocket was a bit more loose in order to accommodate fountain pens. I've been going through my fountain pens and all the metal pens that I would feel comfortable keeping in the front pocket are all snap caps, which isn't ideal, for the reasons you mentioned. But that's ok, I'm content with the little Brass Sport. 😀

    A Lamy CP1 fits in that slot reasonably well.

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  11 місяців тому

      I forgot to mention that I was afraid to put most of my fountain pens in the front pocket because it's so tight, but the CP1 is so slim and resilient that I wouldn't be afraid to try it. Thanks for the suggestion, Arlenea! 😀

    I was wondering why you wouldn't just clip the Liliput to the notebook before zipping everything up, but I like the loop idea better.
    'Necessity is the mother of invention.' 😊
    ~
    BTW, there are various types of elastic pen loops available that will also work. The problem is that you often have to buy multiples when you only need a couple.

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  11 місяців тому +1

      I have a package of those elastic pen loops that I got from Amazon, and I debated using one, but I'm still not sure if I'm going to be archiving all these little pocket notebooks. If I do, I'm just wondering if having a pen loop stuck on the front cover would get in the way. If this little paper pen holds up for the short life of this notebook, I may just stick with that. I find it kind of fun to find solutions to these little problems. 😀
