- Hello and Welcome to Bessemer and Lake Erie 902! In this video, we follow the special movement of Amtrak's Next Generation Acela Trainset as it departs it's birthplace of Hornell, New York (Built by Alstom) and travels for further testing in Pueblo, Colorado. We will chase this train from the famed Letchworth State Park Arch Bridge to the LS&MS depot, on both the NS Southern Tier and the CSX Erie West Subdivision. We hope you enjoy this video and make sure to like, comment, share, and subscribe for more railroad content just like this.
A big thank you also goes for Nate Molek, and Patrick Wortman, who made this chase possible. Their channels, Lake Erie Railfan and Amtrak099 respectively are at the end of the video.
I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming support you all have shown on this video. Not only have you supported this video, but also the channel. We have just hit 1,000 subscribers which is a huge accomplishment. Thank You everyone!
Congrats!
+Omega Owie Thank You!
Are you a f**king robot
Goddamn , the narration is terrible ...... unsubscribed
pro trick: you can watch movies on flixzone. Been using it for watching a lot of movies lately.
So no one's going to talk how beautiful that first location is?
👍
Bear mountain bridge over the Hudson river?
I will. The new bridge over the Genesee in Letchworth State Park is very nice indeed.
I will!!! Love angle of it with bridge &,double falls! Like Multnomah falls in Ore!
I'll mention it. Locations on the railroad can be just as beautiful as the trains themselves
Knowing Amtrak, thats just about how fast it'll be
+Daveyboy _ True lol.
if it can stay running!!! oh and 150 mph...only while in pueblo..........
@@rearspeaker6364 there are 150mph speeds between Providence, R.I., and Boston and reaches up to 135 mph in some stretches between New York and Washington with the present Acela's
@@tomy6917 Yeah but I think the Acela line goes up to 150 for only 7% of the whole entire trip (34 miles out of 457 miles) while the average speed between NY and Boston is about 65 mph.
@@ZekuChanU yes, I often wondered why have a high speed train but not the tracks that can handle that :(
Railroad Gate: *starts ringing*
Auto generated subtitles: *[Music]*
It’s music to my ears 🥴
It makes me angry when new trains have coaches that don't match the locomotives. The coaches have a different shape then the locomotive.
They probably did that to add more seat/width to the passenger cars.
I too noticed the difference in the bodies of the cars as compared to the power units. To me it just looks odd or was an after thought type thing.
It does strike an odd note but supposedly, they will either add a fiberglass fairing to help the profiles match, or continue the blue bar of paint into the locomotive/power car. Either one will improve the situation.
@MusicalElitist1 It's called figurative speech. Im not actually angry.
exactly, thats lazy
6:25 I have never seen a human more red in the face...
You what
Jacob Schiess lol..beet red, cherry tomato, fire engine red!
We never get anything like this in Charleston, let alone South Carolina. I see the comments below are panning the appearance of the Acela's engines and passenger cars. I think they're beautiful. I like the engines that are pulling (and pushing) it!
I'm glad Amtrak is making steps towards current technology and future upgrades. Imagine when they could run the entire route at 186 mph or better yet 220 MPH with the tilting system deactivated.
+Ven100 Yeah. It’s exciting to see what the future holds.
About bloody time.
Who designed this thing? The coaches look different than the engines.
+Darryl Nelson Alstom designed this. I’m hoping the production models have coaches that match up better then the powercars. I’m sure it will cause some problems during testing with the extra drag.
Bessemer & Lake Erie 902 yeah it’s likely not the final scheme
@Bobby Brady the same metric can be said for the US. The US is a union that operates as a whole, ergo a country, but the states still have tons of sovereign administrative power. I for example live in Illinois, where cannabis has just a few months ago been made legal for recreational consumption. We also have adopted stricter climate change laws than the federal government, and also differ in tax code, education, and many, many other laws and regulations. Chicago for instance is a sanctuary City, made possible under Illinois law. States also albeit part of a requirement have their own militaries. Just like NATO, not all states are held accountable to keep this requiment, or to use it for intended purposes. There have been quite a few cases where states have threatened military action against one another. A famous case of this is the Toledo war. Bleeding Kansas is another less official example, but there are others for sure. Even travelling across states / International borders changes state by state, and when you cross over a state line, many issues become federal ones due to the differing jurisdiction. This is not common for true "provincial" status, as a centralized government would force cooperation between the administrative divisions.
There is actually a video on UA-cam debating the status of the US as a country or a union.
Anyway, back to the original point, no you cannot refer to Europe as a country, but you can refer to the European Union as a union (as a whole, generalized population) in the same way we do the United States. Thus the Eurozone has its own commission of standard centralized regulations just as the US federal government does. In many way, states in the US actually have more power to modify or flat out elect not to accept regulations. In my own state of Illinois there have been instances where local rural gun owners and their respective local governments (counties, etc) have elected not to "allow" or follow proposed federal or state wide gun regulations.
@@BessemerLakeErie902 who or what drove the paint scheme of the newer baggage cars that don't seem to match anything? Oops, I misspoke. The baggage cars are painted in the same manner as the Viewliner II.
alstom is european company ,i thing that this thing with the difference between the lok and the cars is a deal of some americans.Alstom never do such a stuped thing.
The first Alstom TGVs have now all been retired after 42 years. Of the 109 trainsets, almost all have reached at least 10 MILLION KM. Trainset 06 reached a whopping 13 916 085 km (8 647 054 miles) between 1980 and 2019. Reportedly the highest mileage of any train. Amazing performance considering it's 1970s technology.
Sounds big? That's at most about 350 000 km per year. Whereas the newest TGV Duplex pile up to 800 000 km annually on average. Alstom Quality.
Meanwhile, in Britain, Alstom quality is catching on fire every 20 minutes.
@@doomotron6160 I doubt it.
@@paname514 Have a look at the Class 180s and 175s late, and then have a look at the Junipers as well. All of them are unreliable crap that were designed by lunatics. No wonder Electrostars were so successful.
YAY - Amtrak is FINALLY running cab units they way there are supposed to - back to back, not elephant style
OK mike.......that is done for OPERATIONAL reasons, NOTto please railfans..............if a train croaks in the middle of nowhere with nobody to troubleshoot the dead engine, it can be set off and the train continue with the second engine only...if the trailing unit were backwards, it would limit the operation to only 20 mph as the crew would be shoving from the cab being in the rear. Elephant style, they can proceed at track speed. And for the same reason the special has another engine on the rear....any place enroute where the train has to change direction, they can change cabs and run at track speed instead of a crewman directing a shoving move 14 cars to the rear.
@@douglasnash7821 I am aware of the operational reason. But that doesn't change it from looking horrible.
This video was put together extremely nicely. I don't know how you only have nearly 600 subscribers, but you definitely deserve much more recognition for the time and effort putting this together and making history.
+radanju3 Thank You so much! It makes me feel great to hear others are enjoying the content. I strive to make quality railroad content that all Railfans can enjoy.
I mean Amtrak can always give the Acelas to MARC when it's all said & done. We will have fun with them. We have with HHP-8s
Seems like Alstom was able to go mostly off-the-shelf with this one. Good to see Amtrak learned their lesson with the original Acela - a custom train results in more cost, complexity, and development time.
+GintaPPE1000 Yeah.
Off the shelf but very new though, it's a significant departure from the classic TGV that dated back to the 1970s. All-new comapct powertrain and electronics, new powercar and coaches chassis. However the overall powercar architecture is still very much the same despite being much shorter: train driver door, side front traps, are still at the same place, same wheelbase between bogie axles. Alstom did not go with an entirely clean sheet.
New Acela is very futuristic, like 50 years ago - - finally catching up with Japan. And yes, it has some nice amenities. Great video coverage!
Thanks for sharing. 👍 👍 👍
NOW the Avelia Liberty is the most advanced train in the USA, Following behind is the FEC Brightline
You're right.
This train is so special to see because it’s an one of a kind moment
+conrail modeler67890 Yes it was and it’s one I’ll never forget.
Untill they are in full service along the NEC
Freedomtower Studios yep
Yes this kind of reminds me of driving past Baltimore on my commute and seeing a cruise ship there for training purposes that was bound for Hawaii, which would be its permanent port of call. Had Hawaiin flowers painted all around the bow and looked very out of place.
If only there were a spot this scenic along the NEC!
Salmagundiii cool
Nice snow + waterfall + train = Beautiful.
North-East.. North-East...
Start electrifying the railroads and improving track quality, America! Those High Speed trains suppose to run cross-nation and along west coast, instead of just hugging onto North-East forever.
Awesome video! Really love the design and look of the new Acela. Beautiful. Thanks for showing us! 🚄
Well done Amtrak, well done🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
What a great opening shot. Never mind the train, the view and conditions are amazing.
+richardj ellis Thanks! It’s really pretty down there.
Best shots of this move I've seen. Also nice stuff in Letchworth. Been a long time since I have been there and never in winter. Wonder how long it's been since the last passenger move that way. Thanks for braving the cold to bring us this video. Take care a d be safe.
+TucsonPete Thank You! I will.
I like the Acela. Took it to Providence, RI and it was an extremely comfortable ride.
This was an excellent introductory video.
Thank You!
Edit: For anyone scrolling through comments, I am Nate Molek. Bessemer and Lake Erie 902 rode shotgun as we chased this through 3 states and 2 rail lines and is the main reason why this video was even possible in the first place.
My video of the chase is here for anyone intrested. ua-cam.com/video/aJsi1f6xzFA/v-deo.html
*Original Comment* Awesome video Alec! Man this thing blew up like crazy! I'm taking my time with my version and that will be out in the next 2 days. Getting up at 4:20 in the morning was well worth it.
+Lake Erie Railfan Thanks! Every effort we made was worth it!
Thank You! Job well done.
I predict it will be a success, as long as ticket prices don't rise and that they have priority of cargo trains.
I'm happy someone started this topic I like symetry At every amtrak train my hands itch to regroup them Amtrak looks like a small child who is playing with his trains
I can't wait to see these new trains on the NEC!
9:31 looks like someone had some fun in that parking lot
wow the local media totally neglected to mention it was a brand new train
That power car nose is beginning to grow on me! Those close-ups at Alden are terrific. P42s from Erie, Viewliners from Elmira, HST from Hornell, so proud Western NY and Western PA plays a prominent role.
P.S. save us the horn-geek-speak in the future. People who matter and who are not incels could care less if its a K5LA or a P8GK
Am I the only one who is more excited to see a heritage car "Pacific Bend" in this consist than the next generation Acela?
Thank you for sharing! Well done!
+Dennis V Sinclair Thank You!
Can't wait to see these testing. Wish they looked more like the rendering though. The livery in the animations was so much better.
+Alex Overton Yeah, I agree.
So true
A beautiful train. So nice to see such state of the art equipment as all we get on the Left coast are the old cast-offs. thank you for this.
nice chase and catch Bessemer & Lake Erie 902 can't wait for FRA testing to be over in Colorado and see some testing on the NEC.
+Liberty Railfan Thanks! I’m excited too.
Thank you for the good shots; particularly liked the opening with the Upper Falls and new Arch Bridge at Letchworth St. Park. Impressive that it was built in Hornell, N.Y.
+Linda Coye Thanks!
Now if only the rail infrastructure can actually support sustained 150mph speed between NY and Boston...
Awesome video! Dig the narration. I’ve made one video with narration and might do more eventually. Anyways, great video! Excited to se these units in service soon.
+Pittsburgh Line Railfan Thanks!
Can’t wait for them to be in service
It's a wonderful thing that Amtrak is making this dramatic improvement in rolling stock. But what i think really needs to happen is that there has to be concurrent improvement in the trackage on the NEC. If they could improve the infrastructure - especially through New Jersey - there would be noticeable speed improvements on the NEC. Right now, between Boston and Washington-Union Station the best time on the Acela is just under 7 hours.
+smoothjazzaxe I agree.
...now too bad they didn't build the HSR line between Chicago - Milwaukee - Madison - Minneapolis (thanks to Gov. Walker) electrify it, and move a couple of the older Acela train sets there.
All I can say is there better be one or two Acela Express sets set aside for preservation.
+Thomas Weekley Yeah. I agree.
Yeah, probably running on a different railway in America.
P42 135 has always had an amazing horn.
reason why it’s my favorite out of the 207 built for Amtrak!
@@lionelkid456 I come from Europe, therefore can not analyse it that well, but it seems it works two tones after each other or so. Indeed a joy to listen to.
Very impressive video footage, thanks for sharing your video with us.
+Phillip Riggins Thank You!
Bessemer & Lake Erie 902 Your welcome!!!! Have a good weekend!
+Phillip Riggins Thanks! You too!
Pretty cool video. Love Amtrak's new high-speed train. LJL
Thank You!
I Am Really In Love With You Amtrak Acela Express Trains
Finally Amtrak got some new trains, yes I'm going to miss some of the 42,s but it's about time.🚆🚅🚄🚅🚄🚅
It's so cool the crew let you get near the train while they were waiting for clearance. The shot with the drone looks great. From Michigan, thanks for sharing!
+Hack Perez Thanks! It definitely made the day of everyone there.
Thank you for taking the time to film this milestone, dont want to diminish your effort with my critique of the Amtrak trainset.
+Anthony Long Thanks lol. I appreciate that.
@@BessemerLakeErie902 LOL... No problem. I know it takes a lot of time and effort to commit to recording such events. I re-read my commentary on the looks of the trainset, and thought I should at least distinguish critique of the train from your really nice video record.
Man with OCD sees train and cars not matching up: I'm gonna destroy this whole mans career
It should be noted that an additional trainset was scheduled for testing in March near Philadelphia
Good to see some development in that sector. We are so far behind other developed countries when it comes to passenger rail.
Spectacular photos! Thank you very much.
+Tom Osborne Thank You
Nice catch! I'm not a huge fan of the paint scheme but the design of the train is pretty cool. I look forward to seeing it operate.
Thanks!
Great catch! Next Gen Acela looks like Bullet Train from the front. The Classic Acela still looks Good. I hope that keep some of the classic train sets around and not just moth ball them like the Euro Star did with the old train sets. We will see?
+Thomas johnson Jr Thanks! And yes, we will have to see.
Great video. I’d love to see the photos and have one as a wallpaper. You have such great quality footage!
+The Bus View Thank You so much! You can follow my Instagram account, @alecdurfeephotography or my Flickr, Alec Durfee to see more photos, as I also do photography while doing video.
Superb shots ! 👍🏻
2020 new USA train same as 1980 European train. USA need to step there game up with the high speed trains and highways.
the design is based off a European train that entered service around 10 years ago, it then had some addition modification done to meet US standards, the current acela express trains are similar to 1980's TGV tech wise.
Bobby Brady not really, i drive all week anyways, so by Friday I want nothing to do with it, and flying is so corn pickin’ expensive.
Well captured sir. You’ve earned yourself a sub.
Thank You so much!
Bessemer & Lake Erie 902 You’re welcome!
Donald Duck in train form, anyone?
In all honesty, I don't think many people in here who think the old acela trainsets are going to be scrapped soon have heard the statements from Amtrak. The Avelia Liberty (that thing) is going to take over the role of the Acela, and the Acela will take over the role of the Northeast Regional services. The original Northeast Regionals will have more stops added to give them a more commuter-like purpose, which might cause issues between Amtrak and NJT, MARC or VRE because those three commuter lines depend on the NEC heavily.
Cant wait to see it off the leach at pueblo when it turns into a raging speed demon
R.I.P. the acela 2000-2020 a new era begins!
GREAT footage!!!
+Trainin' Man Thank You!
Great video!! Very well done :) from Phil in Australia.
+Sydney Trains Vlogs Thank You!

+Tư Diêu QNg Thank You!
Great Catch and Video my friend.
Cant wait to ride that gal from Providence to NYC for sure.
Nice to see another channel with narration! Enjoyed the video! Look forward to more!
Thank You! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great vid - wish I'd known this was coming in - I'd have tried to catch it in the yard here. Will have to head out near the test track to see if I can see it run...
I live in Chase MD, near the 1987 crash site where the NE corridor crosses the Gunpowder River. That low trestle is crumbling into the river below.
Well power cars with a different body profile to the coaches and a paint job taken from British rail in the 1980s. They say the Acela is old, not as old as the British HST trains and they still look modern compared with this
Lol I see where you are coming from.
Thanks for sharing Hopefully they use it on a lot of routes
+G TV Top secret As of now, it will only run between Boston and Washington DC, on the North East Corridor.
I hope Amtrak finds a purpose for the old Acela fleet perhaps on the keystone corridor seeing that as old as they are, they are still far newer then the amfleets.
Yeah. That would be nice!
Excited to see this at speed; thanks for sharing
very impressive paint job 10/10
I hope at least one of the old acela sets is preserved. it was the first high speed train in the usa, that history is worth saving.
+Adam Burnes Absolutely. We will just have to wait and see.
Maybe the Texas Central high-speed line can buy some when the line is finished.
or it'd be nice if they repurposed all the trains upstate or somewhere
Um, behind the 1965 Budd Metroliner EMU's, maybe.
I agree it wouldn't do for such an important part of history to just be scrapped
Would be nice if the locomotives had the blue streak on their lower sides like the coaches. Still, not at all a bad paint scheme.
Yes they finally made it, it was announced a couple of years ago
+ironfox7 Yeah! It was pretty exciting!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
Thank You!
Huge difference in noise between the brand new shiny trainset and the old rattling coaches and locomotives
Absolutely FANTASTIC video!
+jrzb8910 Thank You!
God I cant wait to see this up close when it hit the Northeast Corridor
The coaches' livery is remarkably similar to British Rail's original InterCity colour scheme.
It would be nice if they could just put that Heritage sleeper on the overnight Boston to DC train, it's been gone for almost 20 years...
that is an awesome Amtrak Acela
Amazing catches mate, you really took the time to take great shots
+Paname514 Thank You!
"Fleet of the future", or should I say "Acela of the future!" Going to miss the older Acela trains when they are retired. The most important thing I will miss is the Hybrid K5LAs those trains have. Again, I know I have said this a lot, but I am hoping Amtrak sticks with the Hybrid K5LA on the newer Acela trains because I totally like the doppler effect those horns produce at such high speeds! Can't wait for them to enter service!
+SuperWorldFan360 Yeah, it’ll be a bittersweet transition. I was told it was only a 2 chime horn on the new train set but it could always get changed or that was misinformation. We will just have to wait and see.
Pretty good video. Opening sequence is pretty good too!
+lasalleman Thank You!
Great video! So exciting if you’re a real railfan.
Great catch!!!! Can’t wait to ride it!
+ENJOYTHESIREN911 Thank You!
Why do the power cars not share the same shape as the coaches? It looks odd.
Shut up, this is railway.
EasyJet EU say that to the people above complaining at least this one is polite about it
EasyJet EU Soo sorry oh oppressive one. How dare I have an opinion!
Let them have Alstom Avelia Liberty
We're getting the Siemens Charger
Great video!!!
Greetings from Brazil!
+Rodrigo Matheus Thank You!
I'm liking the coach designs, but I'm not sure if I like the nose design. It looks a bit too angled for the speed limits on the NEC at present
Subtitles: *hears horn* Ah yes Music. Also subtitles: *hears crossing bell* Ah yes, applause
I’ve seen AMTK 196 in Hattiesburg, MS. Very cool video!
That's really cool!
Wow, a TRULY superb video! I wouldn't be surprised if Alstom reached out to license this from you!
+Salmagundiii Thank You so much for the kind words!
@@BessemerLakeErie902 Thanks too for getting some closeups. I'm fascinated by how 'petite' the yaw dampers are compared to the ones on the current Acela. Makes sense I guess, if the cars weight less. Less yaw to dampen LOL? I've been in a Marc Kawasaki bilevel with weak or malfunctioning ones - really shows why they are needed.
+Salmagundiii Yeah. There’s quite a bit of differences between the current and future Acelas.
The puller is prettier than the pullee
