No srsly there’s been the massive hit of singleplayer games back in the past, all from flash games to Nintendo deals, arcade 80s or some Gmod sandbox all in all they can’t die at all
I mean I think the quote was started from a game journalist and spread from there. But there are a large number of people who almost solely play multiplayer games these days. I don't think single player games will die, but I do feel like they became more scarce from when I was younger.

@@beyondblood2707 well they are more scarce because it takes a lot now to even be on people's radars as a single player game. You're going up against games like the souls series with elden ring, horizon forbidden west and pokemon arceus just to name the three biggest releases of recent time which are all mainly single player. Just because the quantity dropped doesn't mean it's falling off. It just means the quality is higher and people are pooling over the ones that stand out on top unlike then where everyone has their own game they play that nobody in the neighborhood even knows.

@@Chadius_Thundercock but then being alone gets boring, so they turn to multiplayer mode or multiplayer games. Even then, when the mood for multiplayer gaming goes down, the mood for single player gaming goes up, and so the cycle of a gamer's life prevents the single player games genre from dying.
It also hurts that he used elden ring as an example. Like elden ring wasn’t even a fraction as good as people say it is and on top of this it wasn’t even close to being a game changer. It’s no different to the other souls games not even on just a fundamental level and when it came to open world it was generic

If anything multiplayer will die out first when they start running out of ideas, the beautiful thing about single player is that there’s always a new and original story to tell, there’s so many paths that can be taken that you just don’t get from multiplayers
The amount of cope here LMFAO playing against other players is one of the best things videogames have to offer. Multiplayers aren't going to die ever.
Then after a while you deal with hackers, cheaters, and extremely toxic players making the online portion not fun. There is pros and cons for both but multiplayer the creators have to keep the players entertained and match’s playable.

And if you go further into the future, the only games that actually can die are the multiplayer only ones. Because people will move on and you literally cannot play them anymore (except against bots but that kind of removes the entire point of them being multiplayer).
Who even says multiplayer games are on average more popular than single player. They explode in popularity for a year or two but then slowly and painfully die out. Fortnite and COD are dead asf for the most part.

Fallout, Skyrim, Zelda BoTW/ToTK, Far Cry, Terraria, Minecraft, Resident Evil, Dead Rising, Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2, Yakuza/Judgment, and countless more:
Single player isn’t “dying.” It’s just being massively overshadowed by multiplayer. The last few games I’ve played that were any good have all been single player. The last few multiplayer games I bought were shit though. And everyone knows negative attention is seen a lot more than positive attention.
Multiplayer games are rarely really any different from each other. I mean one day there's a succesful battleroyale game and then next 2 years basically every big multiplayer game is a battleroyale game.
Multiplayer games take no risks at all I feel, it's... Stale, not really boring, but not quite fun either.
Singleplayer games has some of that problem too. Indie devs have made some awesome stuff, but rarely an AAA studio puts out anything groundbreaking.
This is kinda out there, but that also might be why the horror game genre hasn't evolved anywhere since early Silent Hill games. Even that was made under special circumstances, you know the had a team with creative freedom for the projects untill they found out that hey people like this stuff, and started dipping in their toes and its all downhill from there. Other succesful horror games are also formed under unusual circumstances, such as FNAF or Cry Of Fear

I heard a lot people saying this. In bf2042 comment section someone was complaining about no campaign mode. Some people commented saying its 2022 who cares about campaign.
Also almost all my friends only play valorant/ overwatch/ apex/ pubg. Most of them downloads a single player game, plays once/ twice and never touch it again, even the good ones.
Single player games with pure strategy like Inscryption is closer to single player than Elden Ring lol.

People forget that everything is subjective and just because it’s not a Battle Royale or MP doesn’t mean it isn’t amazing
People who have this mentality most likely haven't played a good single player story. Many are capable to delivering more emotion than many movies due to the level of immersion in the games world (even more so for rpg titles). Then again, everyone has different tastes.
Never was a fan of the follower mentality personality, it deprives you of your personal agency.
I hate single players tbh. Only ones I enjoy are Pokémon. I can’t play by myself because I get bored.

@@joshanonline single player games tend to have replayability, which is why they last longer even if they don't have the same initial growth that a lot of triple A multiplayer titles have. it's why fallout new vegas, oblivion, skyrim, etc. are still played and enjoyed whereas modern warfare 2 lobbies are dead
