Yes driving in your car isn’t safe during a storm but this town has a lot of communities of trailer homes . In which it is extremely unsafe to stay in a trailer home during a tornado. It’s pretty common for people to get in their cars to try to get to a safer place like a gas station or store. It’s a pick your poison at that point.

They only were somewhat scared when they were getting flung around but they still kept their composures, I know if I were there (I live near there) I would be screaming at the top of my lungs

That wasnt directly in it, if it was the car would have no windows, would have been flipped/moved, they got hit by part of the outer circulation for a second but technically not a direct hit. However, doesnt mean it wasnt scary as heck!
Please pray for the family involved. That's a very scary moment, and it's too bad they couldn't make it to safe shelter in time. A mirror can be replaced. A life can't.

Close attention should be paid to what direction tree leaves and debris are moving and at what speed. If you see things such as the road sign blow down as happened in this situation you can estimate distance tornado is from you in which direction and speed the sign fell. If you see larger debris blowing past obviously you know the tornado is a lot closer. Got to be aware of your surroundings and pay close attention and base risk from that data.
Or at least why they don't stop when they encounter it. Of course here in Texas this time of year, you keep track of the weather around where you are traveling - the weather service warned about possible tornadoes and severe storms on Saturday afternoon before the storm
As a storm chaser, I can tell you it would have been much worse had you actually been in the area of circulation....you were in RFD...and yes that can be bad as you found out....thankfully you were both ok...but as has mentioned, please consider signing up for weather alerts....had you been just a bit further north or to the west....you might just be a statstic for us to be reading about....Best wishes!

You know, I thought there was a tornado at my area. I woke up at around 6 AM and was awake for a while until I heard tornado sirens, and I really thought it was a tornado because when I took a little glimpse outside, it looked extremely chaotic, but I was happy to find out that for my area. It was just some crazy hard-core wind in Carrollton but the damage that this wind caused to my front yard, and backyard was just insane. It broke the fence. It knocked down a tree that is literally taller than two of my homes combined the grass was literally lifted up from the ground trees fell on cars my glass nearly shattered i heard billions of thumps the sirens was getting creepy… that time I looked out that window just fog rain hail and chaos… the fact it was dawn just made me tired and i have a baby sister that’s only 1 year old her swing outside got ripped in half and it was horrifying truly a 10/10 creepy experience

If you look closely before they reach the tornado, you can see a lighter sky off to the left and pitch black straight ahead. I don't know if that would have made me back up or not, but you can see something isn't right. These are some tough Texas women.
I came close to a similar experience driving through Alabama one time heard the sirens and the warning on the radio and couldn’t see a thing from the heavy rain 😳
You are VERY fortunate! Either the tornado wasn't strong enough to put you air bound or it didn't hit you head on but just clipped you with its side lol. You live to see another day...
This is so difficult. Tornadoes are terrifying in general and at night that's x2. Technically the best move here would have been to bail from the car and get down in a ditch on whichever side of the road is deeper. Lying as flat as possible and shielding your head. But it's extremely scary to leave your vehicle. Glad they are okay. Hopefully they got caught in this by accident and were not out thrill seeking.
People drive too slow in Tornadoes. If you look closely you can see a charger passing on her right and SUV flashing its lights for her to move out of its lane

You are VERY fortunate! Either the tornado wasn't strong enough to put you air bound or it didn't hit you head on but just clipped you with its side lol. You live to see another day...

This is so difficult. Tornadoes are terrifying in general and at night that's x2. Technically the best move here would have been to bail from the car and get down in a ditch on whichever side of the road is deeper. Lying as flat as possible and shielding your head. But it's extremely scary to leave your vehicle. Glad they are okay. Hopefully they got caught in this by accident and were not out thrill seeking.
People drive too slow in Tornadoes. If you look closely you can see a charger passing on her right and SUV flashing its lights for her to move out of its lane

Why it's important to learn how to read a map and understand a doppler radar when you're out driving in this stuff.
When you can predict a tornado and when it's gonna hit anywhere, you can be the boss of the weather channel. Let us know with all that wisdom and foresight and maybe you can save lives like nobody else can.
@@KB-ke3fiI watch people watching it. One of these tornados last night didn't get warned quick enough. I think it was this one. My plan is have gas and drive away. You have to understand radar to do that.

@@ostentatioussavant8215 There are so many UA-cam weather watchers and chasers on during all outbreaks and easy to keep up with in a vehicle without being distracted.
