People think they make these changes to try and improve in season. You do it before seasons end to give you a head start on the coaching search. Those conversations take place during seasons with other team’s personnel.

There were points where it was worse under Ruffin, but Ruffin also hadnt been a DC in like a decade. Suffice to say, money betting is none of these assistants being retained. Because you arent going to attract the best OC if you hamstring his ability to build his staff.

I doubt you could find someone who cared more about the offense than SL. Loves this university. Dealt a really bad hand this year and just couldn’t find a path to success
I know we have been beyond putrid but keep in mind we lost by 10 to Tennessee who beat alabama which has been the gold standard now we suck no doubt but i do think there is some good this team can still do i wont lay down just bc its been bad even if we lost every game id still hold out hope something can happen
I agree with you 1000% if they are talented enough to get a scholarship from the university of Oklahoma , then they should be able to put a hat on a hat. I am not asking any fancy pulling or anything just block the person in front of you and if you are not talented enough to do that then your scholarship should be pulled when OU needs all the talent they can find I cannot understand why they cannot find a place for Thompson, he might be an outstanding receiver or shoot, maybe noseguard :) but use the talent that you have on the bench.

If we want to keep JA and MH both or just one I doubt we would allow anyone to outbid in NIL and we are still the University of Fucking Oklahoma. To be a QB here is big time and both of these guys dreamed of playing at OU. Changes are being made but as far as how they have been played, playing ball my whole life through college, everyone gets benched at some point and you don’t just quit and want to change teams just because you played bad and got pulled. I don’t understand that line of thinking. MH was going to play behind JAnfor 2 years to begin with and we are still in that track and he has a chance to beat him out if he can. Arnold holds on to the ball too long which creates issues so not sure how that will go. Hawkins it is hard to tell because he has lost all confidence it appears. Mike Shanahan would be the slam dunk hire. His strategy now would fit nicely with who we have returning next year (apparently). I think this makes him a better fit for OU than Marion, in particular, who you see a lot of 21 and 22 personnel packages from. Watching the games recently of Indiana, you see a lot of 11 personnel, 12 personnel, and some 10. If we could come out in a 10 personnel package with Burks, Anderson, Anthony, Farooq…. That would be scary for any defense and opens up so much offensively. I like how Marion’s offense utilizes less and maximizes that with mismatches found in over leverage of strong/weak looks but I don’t know if 2 rbs and only 2 WR looks works efficiently enough in the SEC. If we do have those skill players return next year, I think Shanahan fits in great. He’s only making 800k right now too. Easy double offer from OU.

Mark my words, Hawkins will end up being the better QB of the two. He has great work ethic and is willing to put his body on the line. Unfortunately, we are going to run him off by sticking with Arnold. JA has the same problem that Rattler had (and still has in the NFL). It's something between the ears that can't be fixed.
@tylerwalker5607 JA has a slightly better arm. That doesn't make him a better QB. JA has Rattler syndrome. He makes a read but gets the ball out too late. He is constantly throwing into double or triple coverage, going all the way back to the bowl game last year. He himself admitted he has to wrestle with his nerve before every game. That's stuff that stays with you. Rattler had a better arm than both Hawkins and Arnold. But he never got better because you can't fix issues that occur in between the ears. Hawkins, on the other hand, is a freshman who has shown he can make great passes if the o-line gives him any time. He is ready to risk his body for the good of the team. He is known to be a gym rat and someone who watches film vigorously. He has now gone against 4 of the best defenses in the country. Of course he is going to struggle as a true freshmen. Arnold struggled against Houston and Tulane. I don't care how highly rated he was out of high school. The eye test says Hawkins will be the superior player. Hope I'm wrong for the sake of the team, but I'm telling you, Arnold's mental issues cannot be fixed.

Kevin Johns has. For a decade he was a QB coach and/or OC but has been out scouting for OU and wasn’t involved in plans or our QBs much since been there several months as an analyst so far so letting Finley call plays (😱) which has not except a bowl game for Missouri but read Kevin doing game plans so hopefully that helps Finley
Johns has coached QBs before and more importantly, he WAS a QB in HS and college. So at least he'll have some background with the guys. I never understood having a former fullback who's never coached QBs to be the QB coach.

Mark my words, Hawkins will end up being the better QB of the two. He has great work ethic and is willing to put his body on the line. Unfortunately, we are going to run him off by sticking with Arnold. JA has the same problem that Rattler had (and still has in the NFL). It's something between the ears that can't be fixed.
JA is the better arm and QB. Hawkins is the superior athlete.

@tylerwalker5607 JA has a slightly better arm. That doesn't make him a better QB. JA has Rattler syndrome. He makes a read but gets the ball out too late. He is constantly throwing into double or triple coverage, going all the way back to the bowl game last year. He himself admitted he has to wrestle with his nerve before every game. That's stuff that stays with you. Rattler had a better arm than both Hawkins and Arnold. But he never got better because you can't fix issues that occur in between the ears. Hawkins, on the other hand, is a freshman who has shown he can make great passes if the o-line gives him any time. He is ready to risk his body for the good of the team. He is known to be a gym rat and someone who watches film vigorously. He has now gone against 4 of the best defenses in the country. Of course he is going to struggle as a true freshmen. Arnold struggled against Houston and Tulane. I don't care how highly rated he was out of high school. The eye test says Hawkins will be the superior player. Hope I'm wrong for the sake of the team, but I'm telling you, Arnold's mental issues cannot be fixed.

Why are we having dudes coach two fresh QBs when they have never coached QBs before? Also, why are we letting dudes call plays for the first time when they've never called plays before? This seems like common sense. We need experience.

Kevin Johns has. For a decade he was a QB coach and/or OC but has been out scouting for OU and wasn’t involved in plans or our QBs much since been there several months as an analyst so far so letting Finley call plays (😱) which has not except a bowl game for Missouri but read Kevin doing game plans so hopefully that helps Finley
Johns has coached QBs before and more importantly, he WAS a QB in HS and college. So at least he'll have some background with the guys. I never understood having a former fullback who's never coached QBs to be the QB coach.
BV loves this program, players, and coaches to much to not make it right. He’ll get it figured out. We’re lucky to have him.

Listen to his voice and his cadence, this is a losing coach he’s not gonna inspire his players, even with losses you have to be motivating and he can’t and he’s only in his third season getting paid tremendous amounts of money, the coach who just beat him is paid fifth of what he’s paid, he should never have fired Gundy, especially for the nothing that he did
I’m hoping that Kevin Soerry decommits and we can pursue someone else. I’m not at all a believer in him. He does not seem like an OU caliber quarterback from what I’ve seen
