- THE Benchmark design freefall lifeboat, the FF1200, received the Norwegian Design Council "Award For Design Excellence" in 2010. It set a world record drop height of 55m in 2009, and another at 65m in 2013.
This video was broadcast at the pricegiving. Video should play in 1080p. Design: Birger Kullmann Design Naval Architects, DDC Marine Safety & Design

What a beautiful vessel, really lovely, sleek lines, like a high performance racing yacht with incredible capabilities and capacity!
For a vessel of her beam she is so sleek and motors speedily!
That such a huge, heavy, high capacity self rescue vessel could free fall from such a great height, immediately recover and motor away so rapidly establishes beyond doubt that the minds that conceived and the craftspeople whom built her were absolute experts in their craft!
Next test, it will go over Niagra Falls, tickets for the ride go on sale next Saturday.
I'm in!
Thank you. Batteries will take over. No problems when starting. Trickle charge and fully replaced on time.
I once saw a video of one of these customized into a yacht. Was very well done and at least it wouldn't sink in any type of weather.
Can you share it? Would love to see it!
@@leaf821 different kind of lifeboat,
Im prefer this one for conversion,
More sleek design so it can modified with more powerful engine,
6 knots its too slow for regular lifeboat
I want one. Would be an absolutely awesome conversion job!
*Wonderful! Amazing design&performance. Compliments from Italy.*
0:23 shaky as hell, looks like Someone strapped the cameraman in front of that thing and launched him from 55m.
Super nice craft. Love to buy a used one.
Try filming inside would be interesting to see.
I'll bet whoever was manning the boat on this drop clocked onto why its called Schat Harding 😅
Wow, what a design to like, to love.
WTF! " Yay, we made it.... Oooah I think my back is broken!"
You are securely straped down (belts around legs, 5-point around groin/stomach, belt over forehead) in some fitted chairs. It does not hurt whatsoever to do this, it's like riding a smooth roller coaster. Now, I've never done it from 65 meters but we had to do it from 30 when I took my qualification-course to work on an oilrig.
@@petterskoglund2228 The fitted chairs? You mean the slightly curve fiberglass with no leg room? They discontinued the drop due to it being an unnecessary risk, now you go in and strap in and walk out but maybe I took a ghetto course since we only had a 4 point harness and no forehead strap.
But how fast does it travel afterwards, with the engine running? It looks cool, like a submarine.
The boat can take the fall , what about the impact on the people inside when it hits the water ?
Yes... Of course I want one....ahhumm.. Does it come in black?
Curious how often a 55m drop is required for a lifeboat? Impressive drop :)
they drop them from oil platforms and large container ships. in an emergency, there's no time to lower it slowly.
@@69shovlhed89 Thank you for the info! That would be quit a ride
Appropriately named. I’m sure that’s what the occupants were up to.
Thanks video.
Where are the interior shots? They make me suspect that the "100% load" was just simulated people-weight!
New type life boat more like submarine, good impact launch
how to buy something like this? how much money worht a vessel like this second handed?
I want to see how the crew are belted into their seats... That DOES NOT look like a lot of fun.....and the g forces on your guts....ay carumba!! !!
likely all dead.

@panther105
, based on another video elsewhere, passengers experience 20+ Gs. Occupants sit on impact-absorbing foam, strapped in with their backs facing the bow; with those near the bow sitting at a different angle to those at the stern.

@@petterskoglund2228 Still....i would probably die from shock!!!
i looked at a lifeboat once and now utube is trying to fill my feed with AI suggestions.
wouldnt like to be the pms on that one without the safety pennant attached
I have one question. Why do they never show you the people strapped inside at the point of entering the water?
Thanks for the question. I shall see if I can upload some info.
damn, perfect for a 2012 scenario
@Jonny B don't worry i have year supply of food and water, i also have lots of savings so good luck to ya'll
Its a mini arc
I can see why they stopped the video
Might have broke it in that big drop
Nice work
Сказочная штука! 👌👍👏
Seriously, what is the worst case (single passenger I presume) maximum deceleration?
But do they carry out these tests with the minimum person capacity or equivalent ballast, or with the pilot alone?
Yes I want to see the Niagara Falls run
Wow!! I want one of those!!!!
What stops it from spearing back up and out the same way ?
The added shit ballast from everyone's pants as it hits the water.
Buckle up, tight!
nice. compare with fiber how
Hello, I'm writing from a TV production company in the UK called TWOFOUR. We'd be interested in using some of this footage in an upcoming project! Do you own this footage? We'd love to begin a conversation! Thanks, Josh.
Of course we do. Please see email adress on Rescue page on www.kullmann.no and send a private message with attention "Birger Kullmann"
well done for asking them. :-)
With a name like that on the side of it and what it is doing, there is definitely a toilet joke in there somewhere ?, Also 'what a nice floater', i want one :)
I would need a change of underwear after that drop so the Schat Drawing seems more appropriate to me.
@@wingnut6472 I think i would too after that huge plop into the ocean ;)
Fill the top of it with solapanels and then you can make it sail with solapower, then it wil never Rena out of power on the sea, it will take some time even days to be rescued
Rescue does not take more than 1 day
It’s like a spaceship
The lack of those lifeboats is that they can't stay under water. To integrate the submarine-effect is highly important, because life-indangering situation come up in storm threatening those vessels with cliffs and riffs to avoid, but only under water.
They should add rotors for flying as well, then they could fly out of the stormy sea.
scat hardning?
Fantástico!
How can I get one?
Incredible....curentine in this boat....
It's a good idea..if a flood happens or a tsunami or late warning..I'd rather be at n a boat then stuck in a bunker with 100' of ocean above my head..?
rather put my trust in that boat than jump from that height shame it was not around when the piper alpha
went up lot more live mite bean saved
@Chris Landry read carefully: mite MITE have had lyfe botse. Mite.
Was there some dudes in it when it dropped?
Just let us see the raw footage, no slomo, no cutting, no smart effects, nothing.
Thats not a lifeboat. Thats a lifesubmarine
ditch the music please. cool boat.
это на самолетах такие стоять будут)?
isn't that a Disneyland ride?
Whow and whow !!!! again
So what's the point? There is no need for a lifeboat to have that capability.
There is a need for that, its a quick way to get off the ship and away from a ship when you are, on a burning Oiltanker you dont want to be let down slowly in to the wather and then start the engin to get away. You wana go down fast and get away fast.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
Wow!
Thanks!
Well Schat!
That's Nothing ! Some old lady just went over Niagra Falls in an old pickle barrel . You go over Niagra Falls in that thing and play the fiddle at the same time or tap dance or something ,,, there might be a deal in it for ya to sell some breakfast cereal with your picture on the box or something .
I want one. Perfect for an dumbass skipper like me u almost can't mess it up in a lifeboat. I mean it should be one of the safest boats
Too bad they didnt invest in an iphone to shoot it with.
👍👍⛵🚑
😨
Okay, now let's load it with 100 persons then do the experiment. I doubt it would come back up after it's gone beyond its neutral buoyancy level.
Doesn't work like that, water is incompressible so it's density remains constant no matter how deep you go meaning buoyancy also remains constant, if it can float on the surface it would rise to the surface no matter how deep it goes.
It was fully loaded, didn't you read the info?
The only time it won't come back up is if it goes deeper than its crush depth.
23-30 edit is just stupid...
