One of my favorites Nirvana songs. It isn't one of their better ones, but it does something for me. It isn't always about how a song sounds or how well it's put together. It's about how it makes you feel. You can't put a score on that. Everybody is different :)
I didn't know this song was dale. But after you mentioned it, I can see it because no offense to the others besides dale and Dave. The other drummers lacked bad. Some of chads was ok, but still you're sitting there, like ah you could have put more fill or double bass here and there.

wanted to point out Incesticide is outtakes and b-sides, its not a polished studio album but filler between the transition of bleach era nirvana and their future sound.
songs on here are generally rough but theres some genuine value in these tracks because they might be silly fun(beeswax) or they were transitional songs where the band cemented their sound between their more punk and heavier bleach songs and their later more hook driven songs on subsequent albums i also think from this a worthwhile listen is big long now and beeswax to see your honest reaction.
and coming from a MASSIVE nirvana fan myself, having owned the fender jaguar cobain replica even, i do respect your score on this. i personally would place it in 7.3 when put against the entire album itself. it feels raw, yes, but for a group just starting out, and to make this type of sound was amazing for its time.
"Incesticide" is not really an album per se, it is more like a collection of early recordings by the band between Bleach and Nevermind, it was released in 92 but I doubt most of those tracks feature Dave Grohl on drums. BTW, Aero Zeppelin is clearly a reference to Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin
Just curious, does anyone recall which Nirvana song got David's highest score? This is my favorite Nirvana song, I'm wondering if anything has gotten a higher score from them.
Yeh, Incesticide was a reissue of a bunch of early singles, b-sides and demos that Geffen pushed out because In Utero was taking too long and they wanted to cash in on that Nevermind buzz. Some great songs on there, but they're raw and unpolished.
Hey, this album is like putting together some demos and older stuff. This song was recorded in 88 and I bet they went into the studio, recorded their songs in one take and few hours later went home.... Just to have the music recorded.. No studio - work
This album was a compilation of a lot of different recordings, from a lot of different studios and a lot of different times, and 3 different drummers. It was meant to show new Nirvana fans their roots and satisfy fans before and perhaps prepare them for what In Utero would become.
This album collects b-sides and demos. This track was recorded in 1988, during their first studio demo. On drums sat Dale Crover, drummer for the Melvins.

It's already been said but Incesticide is a collection of b-sides recorded over the years and has probably 3 different drummers so definitely not the most polished songs. But that's always worked with Nirvana for me. Definitely some bizarre/interesting songs on this album. Maybe try an In Utero song next for a different production sound. Like "Milk It" or "Scentless Apprentice" or "Serve the Servants". More bizarre stuff on Incesticide is "beeswax" or "hairspray queen". More Bleach songs "Swap Meat" or "Floyd the Barber".
The sloppy points and the whole thing you harped on up to 6:05 is why we as fans loved this and still do. If You want to listen to over processed crap then there was and always has been plenty of that. The raw different sound is what attracted so many to “grunge” we were tired of the same ole same ole. I absolutely love it and think that’s the way it should be I can’t stand over processed music if it’s too tight too clean to rehearsed then you can keep it studio album or not. It’s a shame that producers and engineers decide what I want to hear.
I know you've already heard teen spirit because it's huge. But do the live version from reading 1992, it was probably bigger than glastonbury at the time and their energy is insane.
For those who don't know: incesticide is a compilation album that consists of songs that were recorded but never released from 1988 to 1990 under sub pop. Some songs were pre bleach but never made it onto the album while the others were recorded after bleach. After nirvana signed with DGC and their new album nevermind exploded (as greedy as this sounds) Johnathan Poneman of sub pop contacted DGC and informed them they had several unreleased songs and sold them to DGC for 6 figures....wanting to keep the nevermind money train rolling DGC approached kurt about releasing these songs on an album as they knew a new nirvana album was still aways off. Kurt agreed on the condition he had full control of the album art in which he painted the cover.
I couldn't agree more. This one of the songs that they had that was so raw that if you didn't have this album you would of never knew they could rock out this way. I will always love this song as nirvana in their trie form.
Totally agree with the scale and song rating. Strange song request. Stuff in the 4.0 - 6.5 range sounds like mainstream airplay? (are there any stations that get a consistent 6.5+ rating?) I haven't heard any 1.0 - 5.0s on this channel. You know that time in the 80s? Where it felt like many artists were taken down by commercial successes and mailing it in? Maybe a 2.0 - 4.9 playlist?
I like to think of his solos as anti-solos. I've always liked this song it feels like it's about to fall apart through most of it. I like that it's a little wonky.
this album is actually a transitional album, half of it has their old drummer, and the other half is when grohl comes in. many of those tracks WERE in fact recorded in home or other places.
Didn't Dale Crover play drums on this song and the two tracks before it? I'm referring to Mexican Seafood and Hairspray Queen. They were recorded before Chad joined

The reason this album sounds like garage rock is that a lot of these songs were unreleased demos and songs from the back catalogue that didn't make the cut for an album. This song was recorded in early 1988 during their first studio recording sessions, 4 years before this album was released. While the songwriting is catchy as hell, the sound is definitely a bit messy. They were on a budget, had cheap gear, and were yet to acquire the talents of Butch Vig, who produced Nevermind. One thing to understand about Nirvana is that they are all about being raw and sloppy. Incesticide is a B-side release with first takes (demos essentially). Nevermind is an over-produced album that they were not that proud of, for those same reasons. The official albums represent a small fraction of their catalogue, and most of it is really raw and energetic. It's the about the feel and the proposition, not necessarily the end result. This song, over-produced, wouldn't probably work.
Trying to talk to Nirvana "Fans"... while listening to a song that teaches you literally to not be a fan of anybody ever. And in this reaction there is someone who talks about sloppyness... so... they could have "packaged" it better to sell it more ;) I like nirvana a lot and like them since the early 90s - they were important for me and many other young people in the early 90s. And this is my favorite song from them. It is raw, hard, has some weird Jazz vibes in the brutal punkmetal song... and the lyrics just punches you in the face. For me (on the way to become a nirvana fan) this was my last step in never getting fan of ANY artist ever. I can like the work of an artist or even love it. But a FAN? No way. Cause this would mean to NOT allow yourself find an own judgement. There are many people who think just because they like someones work... you automatically must like all the other shit the artist is doing.
