2 Samuel 9
David and Mephibosheth
9 David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”
2 Now there was a servant of Saul’s household named Ziba. They summoned him to appear before David, and the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?”
“At your service,” he replied.
3 The king asked, “Is there no one still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show God’s kindness?”
Ziba answered the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; he is lame in both feet.”
4 “Where is he?” the king asked.
Ziba answered, “He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.”
5 So King David had him brought from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel.
6 When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor.
David said, “Mephibosheth!”
“At your service,” he replied.
7 “Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.”
8 Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?”
9 Then the king summoned Ziba, Saul’s steward, and said to him, “I have given your master’s grandson everything that belonged to Saul and his family. 10 You and your sons and your servants are to farm the land for him and bring in the crops, so that your master’s grandson may be provided for. And Mephibosheth, grandson of your master, will always eat at my table.” (Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.)
11 Then Ziba said to the king, “Your servant will do whatever my lord the king commands his servant to do.” So Mephibosheth ate at David’s[a] table like one of the king’s sons.
12 Mephibosheth had a young son named Mika, and all the members of Ziba’s household were servants of Mephibosheth. 13 And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king’s table; he was lame in both feet.

Believe me we know about youth groups. We didn’t teach to them. We had a gym back in 70s era and we had the high school groups come to the gym on Saturday evening just to have good clean fun. If they left they couldn’t come back. We had fun with those groups for yrs. It started when we built the gym because we had class rooms above For classes Sunday and Sunday night.
I was actually looking up the story you are teaching.
Good job .Great message
Just realized this paralleled the story of God sparing the 600 benjamites.
David became king yes ! But not because Saul been killed .
4 Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and run me through and abuse me.”
But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it. 5 When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died with him. 6 So Saul and his three sons and his armor-bearer and all his men died together that same day.
23 Whenever the spirit from God came on Saul, David would take up his lyre and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.
Poor Jonathan, and how courageous was David to go and retrieve their corpses
Saul's armor-bearer refused to kill him. And yes, David became king because Saul and his sons were killed. But also, because Samuel anointed him king.
See
Zilba his servant dropped mephibosheth when word came back that his grandfather and his father was killed on mount gilboa
Zilba fled with him and he tripped on a rock 🪨 that’s how he became lame
No, it was Mephibosheth's nurse that dropped him.
Did he say David's kindness to Medibosete was because of Jonathan? Yes, David and Jonathan were best friends! As we all know back in time when kings lost the crown they had to be killed and everyone blood related to the king, it was a way to stop one of them former king from coming back to take the crown back. What happen to mefibosete is that, around the age of 5 he suffered an accident that broke his legs... Also back in time it was a disgrace and shameful have physical defects. Sorry but the guy made sermon about him. No king ever did what David did. It's a lot about Mefibosete to learn and what is shameful is what Ziba did to Mefibosete and David.
The reason is 😢on 1 Samuel 24:
21 Swear now therefore unto me by the Lord, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.
22 And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the hold.
David sacrificed mephibosheth. I have read it in the Bible.
Geoffrey Lee - no you didn't. The last mention of this Mephibosheth (son of Jonathan) is David splitting possessions between he and Ziba after Ziba's deception and slander of Mephibosheth. This took place after the failed rebellion by David's son Absalom. You may be thinking of a different Mephibosheth who was the son of King Saul. David delivered him and six others of Saul's offspring to some people Saul had wronged during his reign. These six were executed (hanged) by those people, but still David did not sacrifice them.
Dear Geoffrey Lee, you are correct! But, the Mephibosheth to which you are referring is one of Saul's sons in 2 Samuel 21. The Mephibosheth in this sermon is a grandson of Saul's / son of Jonathan, and is found in 2 Samuel 4 and 2 Samuel 9. Best!
In war, David killed. But he NEVER sacrificed humans--a pagan practice that God would not allow of the Hebrews.
