Revox hingegen waren, die zum Teil fast baugleichen, Geräte für den Hifi-Kunden und den semiprofessionellen Anwender. Der Firmengründer hiess Willi Studer, von da her der Firmenname. Willi Studer hat angefangen mit Tonbandgeräten und hat dann die Palette erweitert auf ein Gesamtsortiment im HiFi Bereich. Später wurde dann ein Werk in Löffingen im Schwarzwald gebaut und diverse Geräte, u.A. auch Bandmaschinen sowie andere Geräte dort produziert. Hauptsitz von Studer/Revoxaber war immer Regensdorf in der Schweiz. Grüsse aus derselben...

Hi, Studer ist eine rein Schweizer Firma. Unter dem Namen Studer wurde Studiotechnik hergestellt und vertrieben. Die Consumer Schiene war als Revox im Umlauf... Soweit ich weiß.... Zum Design, in Verbindung mit den übrigen Revox Geräten war das Ganze damals ein Traum. Meine damalige Traumanlage. Leider ist es immer ein Traum geblieben....Gruß Rolf

Same as mine, got the device from my brother who had it together with a B&O4002 stored on a high shelf in his kitchen!!! He bought them in 1980 or 81 and stored them since the mid 80s. The B&O had a major problem,the arm wouldn't sink after the decades long standstil. Cause was the dried up grease or oil in the arm-mechanism, cleaned and lubricated it and the machine worked. I tried the Revox but the Rifa capacitor went up in smoke. After removing it and the blown fuse it worked fine for some time but at a moment the arm started to return after a couple minutes. Opened the device and saw a damaged part, there are 3 PTC's and one was broken,think 50% of the PTC was broken off,the other 2 looked ok but might be faulty too. The broken PTC might have caused the returning problem i think. It's a project i have to finish, the 3 PTC's must be replaced, some capacitors on the same board and other boards too. Think the many ic's in the sockets are ok while the machine worked fine for a while. Revox B 790 Rating: Running gear: 8 Arm: 6 Price/quality ratio: 7 Equipment Revox's first record player, introduced last late summer, is a striking appearance that immediately attracted a lot of attention. Fundamentally, it is a quartz-controlled direct drive mechanism with a servo-controlled tangential arm, in which the Ortofon M 20 E element is installed as standard. The servo control of the running gear is extensive to make the speed very constant and also variable and consists of a tachogenerator and quartz control. The switch between the two speeds is done with two push buttons on the left of the front. The set value is indicated digitally. An advantage is that the buttons are accessible when the dust cover is closed and that the dust cover, which remains in all positions, does not protrude behind the base when open, thanks to the sloping rear edge. A third push button (VAR) with an adjustment wheel allows fine speed control with a fine adjustment over a range of +/- 7%. This is also indicated digitally to 2 decimal places. Front right the mains switches are located on the baseswitch and three push buttons to control the arm movements: left and right, up and down. The platform, made of aluminum alloy, is on the light side, and together with the arm it is mounted on a spring-mounted sub-chassis. The arm part is covered by a removable metal cap; The arm can be rotated 180° at the base. Normally 90° is enough to swing it from the rest position (forward) to the left for playing a record. The arm itself, suspended in a point bearing, is very short (effective length about 40 mm) and light (mass 50 g). For the horizontal movements it runs beautifully on rails. A complex opto-electronic and magnetic servo control is also involved in controlling these movements. This consists of 2 Si photocells, which are irradiated by an infrared LED light source. If the arm exceeds a certain threshold value of an angle to the left or right (0.5°) relative to the record groove, a control voltage is generated, after which a small servo motor 'adjusts'. The same motor directs the arm, if necessary, to any desired point above the record and works as an automatic turn-off at the end of a record edge. Everything contactless. If you accidentally turn the arm while playing a record, the turn-off function will react immediately and the needle is lifted out of the groove. The damped pickup lift operates automatically after touching the relevant button and at the end of the record, plus in 'emergency stop' situations. Nice extra: when the arm is swiveled towards the record, the needle passes over a soft (removable) brush to remove dust. The pickup cord is equipped with cinch plugs. Measurements For a well-designed directly driven player, the measurement results on the running gear are by no means spectacular. They are beautiful and good, but essentially relatively mediocre in an absolute sense. Compare them, for example, with those of the Thorens TD115 (1) with belt drive, which is better rather than worse! In practice, however, a few hundredths of a percent beat and a dB or so more or less rumble mean little, because nowadays it is not the running gear but the record that generally determines the quality level. The very wide and precise speed control range is also nice. The motor power is large enough to enable the control to absorb the braking effect of a rotating plate brush. More interesting, of course, is the performance of the arm. It is light and short, has a low mass and the bearing friction factor is actually negligible. The tangential error angle indeed does not exceed 0.5°. According to the factory, with the built-in Ortofon element the inherent resonance is in the order of 12 to 15 Hz. We found 13 Hz, a neat, problem-free value. The Ortofon VMS 20ED Mk. II element needed more than 1.75 g stylus force to accurately scan the heaviest modulations of the test record. How much actually. Possibly an exemplary error, but nevertheless 1.5 is always necessary and this element does not seem to us to be the ideal for this arm. The descent time of the lift guarantees a reasonably soft landing of the element in the groove. Practical test To start with the positive findings: apart from the very stiff mains switch. The axle of the platter may be a bit on the thick side, but too thin is worse; 30 cm LPs protrude slightly over the concave edge of the platter and are therefore easy to remove. Full appreciation also for the operating labor and the risklessness of the arm: a child can operate the whole thing. Ideal also for older people. But we are having some trouble with the design of the arm itself. At 5 cm it is very short (other tangential arms from, for example, B & O and Rabco are 15 to 23 cm long). It is also poorly damped. This means, to begin with, that only completely flat plates can be ideally displayed; however, these are quite scarce. With 'bumps' of 4 mm the arm is already having a hard time, dittos of 6 mm (really not that exceptional) are no longer taken. Additional bumping and 'scrubbing effects' of the needle in the groove are the audible result (including influence on distortion and channel separation); the rumble is also started this way. Because nothing could be changed about the length and damping of the arm - it is therefore a priori less suitable for the use of moving coil elements! - and because we did not think the built-in Ortofon element was the ideal combination, we replaced this Ortofon with a Shure V 15 IV (after all, with its own damping and excellent scanning results). This replacement is not an easy task and should be discouraged from laymen. After all, the player must first be 'dismantled': the platter, dust cover and the protective cover of the arm must be removed. The arm must then be moved slightly (electrically) towards the platform axis, after which the mains voltage must be switched off. Then, after rotating the arm (180°), the element becomes accessible for disassembly when the player is placed on the left side and the new element can be installed. The height of the element above the record and the needle force are adjusted using screws. Nothing is calibrated, so everything has to be done by trial and error. The stylus force setting must be set with a good balance (Shure, for example). It can be done yourself with some patience and caution, but it is better to leave it to a professional. We think a recommendation to simplify this procedure (mounting the element on the sled and instructions in the otherwise excellent manual) is recommended. With the Shure element we obtained better scanning results (at 1.1 g), while the rumble values also improved by 1.5 to 2 dB. Not only that: with music the sound image also convinced us a little more and that is what it is all about. Perhaps because of the short arm and the moving parts (and the vibrating springs), in a direct A-B comparison of two Shure elements, one in the Revox tangential arm, the other in the SME 3009/III, the latter sounded fraction more subtle, more open, looser and less raw. In any case: Shure does a much better job in the Revox than Ortofon, especially thanks to the dampening brush, which also absorbs record bumps better. Last but not least, we have the impression that the suspension of the platform and arm could still be improved to further prevent acoustic feedback. In summary: a very nice machine with ideal ease of operation, a very good running gear and a somewhat problematic arm, which can be improved in detail and which is worth a better element. Und nicht nur die Bandmaschinen. Das Revox Kassetten-Deck B215 soll wohl mechanisch eines der besten sein. Vier-Motoren Direktantrieb ! Die Tuner sind für ihre Empfangsstärke bekannt. Der Receiver B 285 soll wohl das beste aus beiden Welten in einem Gerät vereinen und der CD-Player B225 hat noch das anerkannt sehr gute Phillips Laufwerk. Diese Geräte sind verarbeitet für die Ewigkeit, klingen sehr gut und sind bis auf das Kassetten-Deck auch gebraucht noch bezahlbar ! Für vergleichbares muss man heute tief in die Tasche greifen. Und noch gibt es sie, die guten gebrauchten.......
Servus und Danke für das Video. Ich besitze auch einen Tangential-Plattenspieler, den RFT HK PA 1203. Der läuft bei mir im Hobby-Raum und ich bin recht zufrieden. Nur mit welchem Tonkopf könnte ich diesen mal Updaten, da bin ich mir noch unsicher. Gruß aus dem Südharz 😎
Vielen Dank für das top Video! Ich habe gerade einen B795 mit defekter Nadel vor mir. Gibt es wohl eine Ersatznadel, die man nur vorne aufstecken muss, wo ich die alte abgezogen habe? Es handelt sich um ein P20MDR. Bin dankbar für Tipps!
Den hatte ich mir 1978 gekauft. Ich glaube der hat 1.500 DM gekostet. Ich habe das System nach 2 Jahren getauscht. Gegen ein Elac ESG-796 H 30 van dan Hul, das war eine Klasse Kombie. Den habe ich dann mitte der 80ger gegen einen Thorens TD 321 getauscht, mit dem SME SME 3012-RG. An dem konnte ich ohne Probleme das System wechseln. Am Revox dauerte ein Wechsel drei Stunden, bis es genau lief.😅🤩🥰
Wenn ich mir die Kommentare ansehe, habe ich wohl großes Glück mit meinem Gerät. Ich hatte es voll funktionstüchtig mit einem Ortofon 200 MC System erworben. Die Kombination klingt sehr knackig, besonders mit Musik ala Deichkind und Beastie Boys. Mittlerweile ist dieses spektakuläre Gerät mein Alltagswerkzeug. Am Wochenende dann der LP 12. Die Geräte sind natürlich nicht vergleichbar, aber es tut auch mal gut einen anderen Sound zu hören, das macht das Hobby aus.
Sehr interessant, hab zum ersten Mal einen Tangentialplattenspieler in Aktion gesehen. Optisch wäre er auch nix für mich, da bleib ich lieber bei meinem Marantz 6300.
Erkennt das Gerät Single-Platten? Also entweder, dass der Tonabnehmer nicht abgesenkt werden kann oder dass der Tonabnehmer komfortabel an den Anfang der Single vorfährt.
Hab a oan Tangentialplattenspieler 😊 Einen Sony PS - LX520 in Schwarz 🙂 Leider gibts Probleme mit der Führung , die oft nicht mit dem Tonabnehmer nachrückt . Dann bleibt des mal hängen 🤔
Wenn er funktioniert ist er ein richtig guter!!! Leider kann er zu viele mögliche Macken haben wenn man ihn ungetestet zb. ersteigert. Wenn es Ersatzteile (außer Normteile wie Kondensatoren&Co) gibt wird es richtig teuer und unrentabel.

Hallo. Ich hab so ein Plattenspieler. Leider dreht sich der Plattenteller nicht😢 deshalb hab ich ja auch genau nach dem Modell hier auf yt gesucht😉 weis einer was das sein könnte ? Höre auch gar nichts am Gerät, kein Motor der läuft.
In dem Gerät sollte eine Feinsicherung verbaut sein. In diesem Online Service Manual kannst du dich bis Seite 3-3 durchklicken. Den hatte ich mal. Habe ich aber bald wieder abgeschafft. Ich habe damals gerne rumgespielt und Cartridges ausgetauscht. Das war hier ein Problem, man konnte das nicht selber machen und das Auflagewicht, bzw den Auflagedruck justieren, man musste ihn dazu in die Werkstatt geben.😂
Die Pioneer PL -L 800 oder 1000, oder der Sony PSX-800 sind aus miner Sicht, weitaus hochwertiger. Die grösste Herausforderung der Tangentialen sind die Bewegungsgeräusche vom Tonabnehmer fer zu halten. Der Revox glänzt hier nicht mit beonderen Messwerten. S/N 45dB.
@@harrysbastelkeller5815 was solls ist hald so . Spass macht er noch immer , Habtik ist absolut souverän. Klanglich ist der Revox im Grünsten Bereich und der kan Lala .
S/N 45db sind nicht berauschend. Die meisten, welche man angeboten bekommt, sind mit Systemen bestückt welche für den kuzen Stummel-Tonarm nicht ausgelegt sind. Technisch besser sind Pioneer PL-L 1000 oder Sony PSX-800....
@@robfriedrich2822 Was soll denn am Center Start das Gute sein? Bei tangential geschnittenen Platten (wie übrigens die Meisten) spielt weder Skating noch Spurfehlwinkel eine Rolle... Also ein gutes System am Linatrak (ist einer der besten Tonarme für Consumergeräte) verbauen und Platten hören mit einem aussergewöhnlich guten Dreher...
A, Center start ist selten und B auch das geht. Denn die Technik zur Nachführung kann das und ist nicht sehr kompliziert , auf dem Tonarm sitzt eine schlitzblende dahinter eine glühbirne und davor ein lichtempfindicher wiederstand oder transistor. Diese Anordnug regelt den tangentialantrieb , bei Fehlstellung, sowohl nach innen als auch nach aussen. Ja auch ein tangential Tonam führt die Nadel nicht 100% ohne winkelfehler über die Platte! Je nach regeltechik ist diese um faktor 10 besser als ein geraderTonarm. Das wurde in den Prospekten der teuren angentialen oft verschwigen.
Doch das geht... der Tonarmvorschub ist ja nicht starr. Die Regelung beruht darauf, das ein kliner winkelfehler zur nachregelung genutzt wird. Diese regelt in beide Richtungen!

Ein echtes Highlight der Revox, legendär waren die Bandmaschinen.
Und nicht nur die Bandmaschinen. Das Revox Kassetten-Deck B215 soll wohl mechanisch eines der besten sein. Vier-Motoren Direktantrieb ! Die Tuner sind für ihre Empfangsstärke bekannt. Der Receiver B 285 soll wohl das beste aus beiden Welten in einem Gerät vereinen und der CD-Player B225 hat noch das anerkannt sehr gute Phillips Laufwerk. Diese Geräte sind verarbeitet für die Ewigkeit, klingen sehr gut und sind bis auf das Kassetten-Deck auch gebraucht noch bezahlbar ! Für vergleichbares muss man heute tief in die Tasche greifen.
Und noch gibt es sie, die guten gebrauchten.......

Servus und Danke für das Video. Ich besitze auch einen Tangential-Plattenspieler, den RFT HK PA 1203. Der läuft bei mir im Hobby-Raum und ich bin recht zufrieden. Nur mit welchem Tonkopf könnte ich diesen mal Updaten, da bin ich mir noch unsicher. Gruß aus dem Südharz 😎

Er wird passiv gezogen... das Seilsystem ist nur zur Rückführung des Tonabnehmers gedacht...
Vielen Dank für das top Video! Ich habe gerade einen B795 mit defekter Nadel vor mir. Gibt es wohl eine Ersatznadel, die man nur vorne aufstecken muss, wo ich die alte abgezogen habe? Es handelt sich um ein P20MDR. Bin dankbar für Tipps!
Leider kann ich dich nur auf Kleinanzeigen oder Ebay verweisen. Neue Nadeln gibts meines Wissens leider nicht zu kaufen...
Den hatte ich mir 1978 gekauft. Ich glaube der hat 1.500 DM gekostet. Ich habe das System nach 2 Jahren getauscht. Gegen ein Elac ESG-796 H 30 van dan Hul, das war eine Klasse Kombie. Den habe ich dann mitte der 80ger gegen einen Thorens TD 321 getauscht, mit dem SME SME 3012-RG. An dem konnte ich ohne Probleme das System wechseln. Am Revox dauerte ein Wechsel drei Stunden, bis es genau lief.😅🤩🥰

Die Studer ist in Regensdorf, ich bin von der Schweiz und war auch schon dort.
Wenn ich mir die Kommentare ansehe, habe ich wohl großes Glück mit meinem Gerät.
Ich hatte es voll funktionstüchtig mit einem Ortofon 200 MC System erworben.
Die Kombination klingt sehr knackig, besonders mit Musik ala Deichkind und Beastie Boys.
Mittlerweile ist dieses spektakuläre Gerät mein Alltagswerkzeug. Am Wochenende dann der
LP 12. Die Geräte sind natürlich nicht vergleichbar, aber es tut auch mal gut einen anderen
Sound zu hören, das macht das Hobby aus.

Es hat leider zu einem Technics gereicht, aber auch ein Tangential !
Sehr interessant, hab zum ersten Mal einen Tangentialplattenspieler in Aktion gesehen. Optisch wäre er auch nix für mich, da bleib ich lieber bei meinem Marantz 6300.

Hab a oan Tangentialplattenspieler 😊 Einen Sony PS - LX520 in Schwarz 🙂 Leider gibts Probleme mit der Führung , die oft nicht mit dem Tonabnehmer nachrückt . Dann bleibt des mal hängen 🤔

Leider kann er zu viele mögliche Macken haben wenn man ihn ungetestet zb. ersteigert. Wenn es Ersatzteile (außer Normteile wie Kondensatoren&Co) gibt wird es richtig teuer und unrentabel.
Später in den 80‘er Jahren brachte RFT auch so ein Gerät auf die Beine .

Hallo. Ich hab so ein Plattenspieler. Leider dreht sich der Plattenteller nicht😢 deshalb hab ich ja auch genau nach dem Modell hier auf yt gesucht😉 weis einer was das sein könnte ? Höre auch gar nichts am Gerät, kein Motor der läuft.
In dem Gerät sollte eine Feinsicherung verbaut sein. In diesem Online Service Manual kannst du dich bis Seite 3-3 durchklicken. Dort ist beschrieben wie man die Sicherung wechselt:

Den hatte ich mal. Habe ich aber bald wieder abgeschafft. Ich habe damals gerne rumgespielt und Cartridges ausgetauscht. Das war hier ein Problem, man konnte das nicht selber machen und das Auflagewicht, bzw den Auflagedruck justieren, man musste ihn dazu in die Werkstatt geben.😂

Da können die Tohnarm freaks erzählen was sie wollen das teil macht richtig Lala.
Die Pioneer PL -L 800 oder 1000, oder der Sony PSX-800 sind aus miner Sicht, weitaus hochwertiger. Die grösste Herausforderung der Tangentialen sind die Bewegungsgeräusche vom Tonabnehmer fer zu halten. Der Revox glänzt hier nicht mit beonderen Messwerten. S/N 45dB.

S/N 45db sind nicht berauschend. Die meisten, welche man angeboten bekommt, sind mit Systemen bestückt welche für den kuzen Stummel-Tonarm nicht ausgelegt sind. Technisch besser sind Pioneer PL-L 1000 oder Sony PSX-800....
Technisch cooles Geraet, aber auch ein bissl schiach ;)

Das aufwändige Nadelnachführungssystem ist leider nur marginal erklärt (eigentlich gar nicht)
Was ähnliches gab es zu DDR Zeiten auch schon.
Allerdings kann dieser Plattenspieler so eine Schallplatte, wie Maurice Ravels Bolero mit Center Start nicht spielen

Eigentlich ist Center Start die einzige sinnvolle Art, den Bolero auf Schallplatte zu bringen.
@@robfriedrich2822 Was soll denn am Center Start das Gute sein? Bei tangential geschnittenen Platten (wie übrigens die Meisten) spielt weder Skating noch Spurfehlwinkel eine Rolle... Also ein gutes System am Linatrak (ist einer der besten Tonarme für Consumergeräte) verbauen und Platten hören mit einem aussergewöhnlich guten Dreher...
A, Center start ist selten und B auch das geht. Denn die Technik zur Nachführung kann das und ist nicht sehr kompliziert , auf dem Tonarm sitzt eine schlitzblende dahinter eine glühbirne und davor ein lichtempfindicher wiederstand oder transistor. Diese Anordnug regelt den tangentialantrieb , bei Fehlstellung, sowohl nach innen als auch nach aussen. Ja auch ein tangential Tonam führt die Nadel nicht 100% ohne winkelfehler über die Platte! Je nach regeltechik ist diese um faktor 10 besser als ein geraderTonarm. Das wurde in den Prospekten der teuren angentialen oft verschwigen.
Doch das geht... der Tonarmvorschub ist ja nicht starr. Die Regelung beruht darauf, das ein kliner winkelfehler zur nachregelung genutzt wird. Diese regelt in beide Richtungen!
