Can’t see wholesale changes until after the World Cup. A lot more guys will come back from Europe, if players go to Europe they’ll have to settle in and there is no obvious highly rated youth talents already in Europe at 16,17 or U21 already playing first team ball. There is simply not enough time to prep before 2026. With the exception of 3 or 4 players already in Europe most of that World Cup team will be players in LigaMx. They’ll face the same shortcomings and will be limited against World Cup quality teams. The blame goes directly to the federation for this, it will take a good 5 to 10 years to turn the page. It’s taken the US 6-7 years since missing the World Cup in 2018 to be in this position and that was with foresight as they called up guys like Weah, Weston, and Adams right after 2018. The question is, FMF isn’t even remotely willing to change course now. First, how will the Copa America roster look like? With the coach in the hot seat, an early exit will all but guarantee he would get sacked leading to another round of waiting and restarts. I will respect the federation if they came in and said we are starting over now, we are rebuilding and will lose games, we will lose against teams we should win but stick with us as we are building towards the future. 2026 World Cup will not bring us a 5 game, our apologies.
