- In an earlier video, we explored an important astronomical event - Transit.
Let us look at another related event - Occultation.
Its dictionary meaning is
oc·cul·ta·tion ˌä-(ˌ)kəl-ˈtā-shən
1
: the state of being hidden from view or lost to notice
2
In our solar system, occultation occurs when a planet passes in front of another object, as seen by an observer. Another object can be a distant star or another planet.
Let us look at a couple of examples with the help of our inner planets model.
Here Venus is occulting Mars when seen from the Earth.
We can take help from the Solar System Scope to visualize occultation related to these planets,
which occurred on 13th Oct 1590.
In another instance, mercury will occult Mars on 29th July 2026.
Transit and occultation both involved two planets but what makes these events unique ?
The word "transit" refers to cases where the nearer object appears smaller than the more distant object
Cases where the nearer object appears larger and completely hides the more distant object are known as occultations.
Now that you know about transit and occultation, explore similar instances on future dates with the help of online simulation software like Solar System Scope or Stellarium.
Thank You.

Very useful to understand universe relationships of EARTH SUN MOON as i know that RAHU and KETU were PLANET but it is not correct these are point where path of earth and moon intersect
. Thanks very much how our solar system works.you have shown in small models.THANKS AGAIN.
