- Live on the Dennis Miller Show, the Pixies perform two tracks from their 'Trompe Le Monde' album. This video is especially noteworthy when you consider how incredibly loud the audience is, and the difficulty of finding live audio or video of 'Bird Dream' (this is the only live performance I know of).
Trompe Le Monde f-ing rocks! ... Terribly underrated...
Yep, my favorite Pixies album by far
agree
Right on.
My favourite album by far (sorry Bossanova)
Although their 4 albums were a truly masterpiece!! I always crown Trompe le monde!!
For me, the biggest mystery in the history of rock music is undervaluation of "Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons".
Well said!!!
Absolutely!
Agree! Great song on a great album! Honestly I've always thought this whole album was pretty slept on compared to the rest of their discography. So many good songs!
That's what i was gonna write too.
I bought this album on Kurt Cobain's recommendation and i absolutely adore every song. Even learned how to play and sing and perform a couple of them myself
quite possibly one of the best bands ever
quite definitely
I saw them recently when they were in Baltimore MD. Still good af I had a smile on my face the whole time.
Greatest categorically altrock band by a long shot. 4 timeless classics, nobody else approaches such heights besides maybe the pumpkins (not my tea)
No doubt!
2:18 drums on fire
Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons is one of the greatest and sweetest things i´ve ever heard in my fucking life!
nothing better than pixies.
Cette version de Olympus Mons est tous simplement géniale !!
This Olympus Mons shot is awesome !!!
Trompe was the first thing I heard by them, I hated it at first but couldn't stop playing it! Soon enough I was in LOVE with this band, still am! All they're albums are awesome. And Kim is my dream woman!!
they are too good.... awesome band
i've always thought that david lovering is an awesome drummer.... he has a lot of energy
... yes... Yes... Agreed.
But is Also inspirational to me for being so creative but always somehow hooky and catchy too . catchy-as-Hell really, while usually appearing to be (deceptively) so simple!
It's a magical 🪄 trick for sure.
this band has influenced so many of todays acts in rock.....where do i start!......long live the Pixies!!!!!
Man does it feel good to hear people screaming for a truly great band!
I love all pixies music since they begun until today.
It´s the band of my life.
In this video David was fenomenal in the drums
I was just like you... 12 years ago now... Says UA-cam. I wonder what position you take now.
Both on the Paz "covers" (when she sings kimmy songs)
And the new albums
And their live sets etc
Lovering is phenomenal on the drums ALWAYS
she will be the queen of mamacitas para siempre!!!!
This is where rock and roll should be!
The difference between the Pixies version and the JAMC version is that the JAMC version gives you a chance to breath
bird dream kicks ass musically, and conceptually.
Oh, yeah!!! They are lyrical geniuses!!!
2021!!! You Still Rock!!! Love this Video!!!
The positive feedback of fellow Pixies fans makes it all worth it :-)
Why?! Did you have this on a VHS tape 📼 in a box with bootlegs and 21 minutes episodes taped off of TV all the way in the back of your closet??
I love the audience. On these type of performances the crowd is ussually quiet and maybe even not allowed to cheer like this and the majority of the crowd ussually dosent care about the band playing, they came to see the host. But this crowd reaction warms my heart.
Kim Deal looks really really pretty in this video! I love her!
I know! Me too!! I love her outfit and her stingray bass. I
THE BEST BAND EVER!!!!
i just can imagine the boys in U2, on tour that year, with the pixies opening for them. must feel like getting really old because these guys were the bomb
+Phil Maison U2 had so many great bands tour with them during their Zoo TV Tour.
A bird that goes to sleep and had a dream that he went to mars! weeeeeeeeeeeeird..
Me, too. The audience, the Pixies performing in perfect sync, a rare smile betweem Kim and Frank at the end, it's a perfect performance.
Crunchy!
Best fans of all audience live concerts ✌️
Dennis ..well said,,I could not agree more,,
LONG LIVE The Pixies,& The JC & Mary chain ,,
AND Frank Black
The Pixies were The Velvet Underground of the 80's/early 90s - terribly underappreciated at the time, hugely influential in the long run, and fucking amazing
No... The Jesus and Mary Chain were the 80's and 90's VU
@@sergiocosta1816 No, they just wore the same clothes and shades.
@@sratus Wrong
Hardly, the Velvets had people that could actually write songs you could remember. The Pixies have "Here Comes Your Man" and that's it. All the rest sounds like Black Francis chopping chords and singing the first thing that pops into his head.
I was watching the night it first aired...I remember really liking "Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons" but I'd forgotten Andy Summers was the show's musical director. 1992, right? Wow...
Saw this! Awesome it’s recorded/posted
Head On is just pure punk joy.
That is a BADASS rhythm section
there’s never been a band like similar to them
damn, that is some good rare shit. i'm one of those people that think Trompe Le Monde is their best album. i enjoy it, anyways. and the only time i saw the pixies live was on that U2 tour they mentioned. thanks for the vid!
That show was so badass cuz I had front seats but in a round arena behind the stage...I was a child and just started playing bass and Deal turned around to the front so I got to watch her play the entire set.
Love Pixies since 90
Why is it that whenever Al Gore is a guest on one of these shows, there's also a really kick-ass band on as well? What an awesome clip. Thanks so much for posting this!!
Black Francis ,very nervous ,Kim is killing it with them shorts
their last two albums were my favorites. but i guess thats the sound of a great band. no-one's sure what the best albums are.
greatest band ever
for me, the "best pixies album" argument is much like the "best beatles album" one, depends on your mood, so it's all good!
epic!! shivers during bird dream :)
Now that's an enthusiastic audience! Pixies rule!!!
Wow, what a great find.
Pure gold.
It was the first one I bought and it's still my favorite.
In regards to finding Bird Dream live...I have one or two live bootlegs where they play it. At some of the Pixies "last" shows years ago.
It's 15 years later and I have no memory of this video or making this comment
awesome. thank you.
Top Notch Class
whoa they're screaming like they're the Beatles or something, not that the Pixies aren't amazing.
fuck the beatles
I saw this when it first aired!
i love there bassist her bass lines are simple but groovy as hell!
excellent!
I like all Pixies albums but definately my fav ones are the last ones BOSSANOVA Y TROMPE LE MONDE. I wish they played more some of those albums in their gigs.
Fourteen people out there that gave this a dislike gotta be the biggest wastes of space on the fuckin internet
This video is especially noteworthy when you consider how incredibly loud the audience is, and the difficulty of finding live audio or video of 'Bird Dream' (this is the only live performance I know of).
I AGREE
Great to see this clip, since I can see myself in the audience. Right after Head On, the audience is panned. I'm the guy in the brown standing up just before it goes to commercial. I'm famous!!! You can also hear me scream out for Joey, my rock idol.
I just saw the Pixies live. I stood in front of Joey Santiago's side of the stage and he shredded.
Killer footage. Kim Deal is lookin good here.
two great songs from a fuckin awesome album
in "trompe le monde" there are two tributes to the jesus & mary chain :
1-the cover of "head on"
2-"bird dream of the olympus mons"; I mean the drums at the beginning of the song, the voice and the bass line. it's so jesus & mary chain .
the audience! wow!!!
Uauuuu!! The best!!
Dennis Miller was rocking the classic 80's mullet.....business in the front.....party in the back.....
There's a lot of hate for Bossanova and Trompe le Monde because they didn't have as much power and rawness as the first three albums. They were great . Listen to songs like Alec Eiffel and Lovely Day, then to songs like Bone Machine and Tony's Theme. There is no comparison.
I agree. Trompe le monde and Bossanova are they're best albums, no doubt
I disagree....Doolittle is their best I think by far.
they would destroy U2
no doubt!! saw the pixies live twice in 1991 i'm glad i did. so much energy! and no special effect just them standing behind their mics and burning the place down
+fuck you Actually, U2 were at the top of their game back when the Pixies toured with them. I got to see them open up for U2 for the Zoo TV tour and was blown away with their sound. It sucks that only a few months afterwards they broke up. But U2's tour was amazing. One of the top 5 shows I've seen in my life. Floyd, Beck, Roger Waters, and U2. But I love the fuckin' Pixies, too.
Yeah man I saw that tour also, Pixies were on fire and they blew away U2 w/ all white stage lights and no frills. Just clean great sounding rock. Thats exactly what I thought! U2 were good also though.
@@phil2208 I would give one of my two balls to had that chance!!!!
Not then, but now definitely
The pixies sound great on a recording but there's nothing like the live pixies.
holy shit! I forgot dennis had his own tv show for a few days.
He always had good musicians on...
Check out concrete blonde ...they cover SHOUT (tears for fears) during ending credits so don't skip that part.
This is audio love.
04:21 I fall in love
ah, the old cd boxes
yeah fly little bird
Is that kim back there getting no camera attention?
Pretty much.
I love how he says "mars"!
Mine too. Mostly because of Kim. She played with such joy back then.
Aaah - the long box.
Even on Dennis Miller, the crowd is screaming like crazy!
I saw the singer live twice. Once with the Pixies, once solo. I love both iterations, but Charles can't sing live to save his life. He needs a studio to get that 'thing' going with his voice. I'm not knocking him, 'The Pixies', 'Frank Black' and 'Black Francis' are three of my favorite singers... As long as he had the booth around him...
didnt realise theyve been playing this jesus & mary chain song for a wee while
Maaaaaaaaassa.
Brasil
@lesxejets I was a huge fan of his work on SNL, his Off-White Album, Mr. Miller Goes to Washington, and his HBO talk show. Then he went off the deep end.
It's hard to put ANYTHING up against Surfer and Doolittle, but Trompe is an incredible album as well.... Frank Black on a bad day is still better than virtually anything out there.... And having been a huge J&MC fan since the mid-80's (right between Psychocandy and Darklands), I was incredibly stoked to hear them cover "Head On"... No other band should attempt to cover J&MC, but Frank Black can illuminate anything he touches. Great cover.
so fucking awesome 'trompe le monde' es su mejor album, pero todos son muy buenos en realidad.
there's a reason thom yorke said radiohead will open for the pixies and not vice versa
U2 absolutely open for the Pixies
from this video it is clear that the band was not going to last, it was already Frank Black and the ...
91 i assume seeing as Trompe le Monde came out then.
kim looks purdy
Know what would have made this performance perfect? If Black had smashed his guitar to bits at the end of the song. Smashed it to bits on Dennis Miller's face.
Enthusiastic crowd indeed. I bet the Dennis Miller Show gave complimentary vodka shots to the studio audience. Wouldn't put it past him
@macfint Pixies is one of the very few bands which ALL of their albuns are good
if you enjoy Radiohead at all check out their performance of Paranoid Android on 'Later...with Jools Holland' - the audience is possibly a little louder...;)
Radiohead is overrated.
This is my favourite Jaz and Maz song!
I actually do! I thought it was up on UA-cam already but I guess not. I'll upload now.
Valla manera 👺🇲🇽
indeed
If you're referring to the fact that the bass lines are simple, I don't think that has anything to do with band politics. The Breeders had similar bass parts. I think that just comes with the songwriting.
fuckin rock gods
What is he holding
Joey's a little behind on the head on solo. they played it purty fast
Black says clearly that it's a Reid brothers song in the beginning.
Jim and William Reid are the Jesus and Mary Chain.
