Def Jam: Fight for NY is a gem. The choice to mix up fighting styles, interactive environments, and weapons made that game a masterpiece. It really sucks the series died off afterwards.

in the takeover added the knockdown and ground an pound and some other things that are actually good, but fucked up everything else, like why change the counter mechanics?
@@omegarugal9283 Sadly the Takedown wasn't as polished, and they added some cool features that completely broke the game. For example, you could "stack" fighting styles. So instead of having kickboxing + streetfighting + wrestling, you could have streetfighting + streetfighting + streetfighting. Great concept, but it resulted in 15 second fights as the haymaker was completely and utterly OP.

Me too! On ppsspp emulator on mobile and borrowed my friends controller, its my 2nd favorite psp game 1. The Warriors 2. Def Jam Fight for NY 3. GTA VCS
The only problem with that is they have too many individuals in the game that are not with Def Jam no more. This game is a Copyright bomb waiting to go off if they tried to resell it.

There should’ve been two prequels called Def Jam: Old Skool (1980s) and Def Jam: Fight For LA (1990s). Where we play as characters in teams (like in The King of Fighters) of legendary rappers such as N.W.A., Public Enemy, KRS ONE, Run D.M.C., Beastie Boys, Geto Boys, Salt-N-Pepa, 2 Live Crew, Digital Underground, Naughty by Nature, X-Clan, EPMD, etc.
You do realize that the game is called Def Jam because that is the record label that produced the game and that all the rappers in the game were signed to at the time. So they couldn’t just put whatever rapper they wanted on the game. Only the rappers signed to def jam could be in the game, and now there aren’t that many rappers signed to Def Jam.
Def Jam had so much potential and then they threw it all away with Def Jam Icon. JUST GIVE ME DEF JAM Fight for Newyork Takeover with GTA 6 Graphics. THAT'S ALL WE ASK.
I would like for this franchise to make a big comeback! So many music artists and celebs since then. Maybe Ed Boon from the Mortal Kombat/ Injustice games can do something with it

Defjam ffny takeover is actually an expansion of the original ffny with added fight mechanics. They should remaster that version on consoles and PC with online play.

Takeover was actually the best, you actually battled by the burroughs, you could mount opponents and perform all new finishers from the ground, the inventory had more products with more customization and you could stack the same Fighting style for extra moves or bonus attributes to the style
Vendetta and FFNY will always be the best, hands down. Takeover is just a psp version of FFNY, whichblooks worse than the original as well as the play style looks 50x slower. Icon made no sense and rapstar had lotwrally nothing to do with fighting, just basically a rap version of guitar hero/rockband

DJ Icon was a real let down, after I found it I played for a while and thought it was cool but eventually just saw that there was a a lot that was missing that made the other ones cool and things. Overall it really seemed like much less effort was put into it

The karaoke def jam doesn't count cause it's not apart if the def jam fight series. It's the same with fight night they made champion the last because mainly UFC having a sole license to EA. And NCAA was mainly because EA fucked up on their contract and made enemies with the NCAA

It went from a badass fighting/wrestling game to a shitty fighting game and finally to a karaoke game.
After watching Fight Club, I tried to find games closer to the genre of that movie and I landed on Takeover. No regrets afterwards.
They should honestly make an updatef version of this game my fav fighting game as a kid
