would it be possible to get the key data into the description? for example, base price, tester price, power, weight, fuel comsumption, co2 emission etc.. that really helps if you have that all in one spot again to have a quick peek during the video if you want to check the price again for example. awesome review brian!
Just got myself one of the last built new ones - been driving it for five days now - and I can testify it is indeed a wonderful car. However: it is NOT a very sporty car, in my opinion. Fast, yes, if necessary, but not very agile, because of the weight of course, and to me the steering is not direct enough... Also: the electric range should not be overestimated, to say the least. With 18-inch wheels, city traffic, heating on... 25/30 kms seems to be about the most I can get. Interesting detail: when put in GTE-mode with the battery depleted, I have the impression the electronic management kind of doesn't know how to deal with the situation when in kick-down. The DSG shifts down very quickly as always, the engine yanks at about 6000 rpm for a little while and no push really happens (because I assume the car needs that push to come from the battery of course). So it should be very clear that the 204 ps are only available when the battery is sufficiently charged... Other than that, it is a GREAT car: comfortable, great seats, silent, the hybrid switch between electric and petrol engine is flawless, and the digital display and the top infotainment system are really really awesome: intuitive, user-friendly and all that. Audio system sounds great. Overall a fantastic car - but don't expect a GTI...
Hey Brian nice review mate, only thing I like to see that Thomas always does is go through the media center and navigation, specifically things like how smooth the animations are and how bad/good the input lag is. Also things like how easy it is to connect your phone, what apps there are available like CarPlay and Android Auto. Keep those reviews coming though Brian!
plug-in hybrids are still too expensive ;_; people will continue buying a lot of diesels in europe, even with this new "diesel crisis" or whatever is going on around here. I personally have not much bad thoughts against diesels... As long as they have a DPF system. Modern petrol cars also need a particle filter these days.
Mike Roth The new E-class in 4 cylindre diesel is the best combustion engine for the enviroment. Hopefully all manufacturers will make clean diesels now because a diesel has a better fuel consumption.
Indeed. It's just a patch on the wound. Or you choose to drive a traditional engine with good fuel economy or drive purely electric. The plug-in doesn't make any sense in my opinion except for the extended range but in the near future I forsee EVs with plus 500km of range.
matteo claeskens The range is not the issue. The charging just should take a maximum of 5 min. Because there are days you want to be able to drive 1500km in 12 hours and that is not possible with an EV. And the batteries need to change because now they aren't eco friendly.
Great review Brian but I was wondering about your thoughts on the following scenario. The car defaults to EV mode on start up, you do 10 minutes driving around like a sensible vicar, in electric mode. Without changing modes am I right in thinking that similar to kick-down with an auto box, if you floor the throttle, the petrol engine will burst into life and give you full available power, as in GTE mode. My concern is that a cold engine bursts into life and almost instantly hits 6000 rpm surely that's the perfect recepie for at the very least, a reduction in engine life. This car is on my shortlist as my daily commute is a 20 mile round trip but I am worried about the above. I also keep my cars a long time and am concerned that because of advances in battery technology, it will only be 18 -24 months before I was " wishing I had waited " Keep up the great work
Of course you shouldn't take an engine up to the red line straight from start up. Personally from my house I have a mile with a 20 mph limit followed by a further mile at 30 mph before I encounter roads where I need to go above 2000 rpm by which time the engine is warm enough to do it without any detrimental effect. In a GTE that would be done in EV mode with a stone cold engine, you could of course, use the petrol engine to get it up to normal operating temperature but that is defeating the whole object of a vehicle with electric capability. How many GTE owners have even given this shortcoming any thought ? Does VW recognise this and make any recommendations in its user manual ? I would be interested in any feed back from the Autogefuhl community, especially GTE owners.
Does the DCC option on the Golf GTE make the ride quality better than the standard suspension? I have heard that because of the batteries, the suspension had to be stiffened and hence the ride quality is sacrificed.
Great review, this model is on my company car list , test drive booked but have to wait until August, company car tax one of the cheapest. The other model on my list is the Mini Countryman S E All4 PHEV , perhaps you can review and test drive this when available 👍🏻
when I charge my GTE overnight and the battery become fully charged during the night will it stop charging and prevent it from draining the battery, meaning can I leave it plugged in for a long time without having to unplug it in the middle of the night
It was a wonderful review with an awesome Scenery. The only thing I have missed was a little show case of the assistance systems. I think I would go for the "normal" Golf with the 1.5 tsi engine and save some money and invest it in extras. ^^
Hey Brian! My first review of a Brian autogefuhl review! Nice job, very likable on camera presence. BUT, this is a review of a hybrid and no mention of REGENERATION or time to recharge? Does this car have regeneration? If it does: How does it feel? Can you one pedal drive it? Did you use it on the twisty alpine roads and how much energy were you able to regen there? You kind of glossed over the mass of usage information available "to those who care" on the info screens but pretty sure you might have gotten a bit of that information from there. Are those bags in the trunk the charge cables (like the Audi e-tron that has nowhere else to put them), or is there a dedicated, concealed space to put the charge cables? I wish this car was available in the US. Looking forward to more reviews.
Plug-In hybrids like the Golf GTE are actually for me the best solution to combine e-mobility with utility value because the big brands still need some time until we can buy “real” electric cars (VW I.D.) !! 👌 There are so much reviews coming up 😱👍
After 17 years and over dozen vws, I'm totally tired of Volkswagen AG products. Continous engine and gear box problems year after another, factory campaigns, dieselgate, water leaks, massive corrosion problems in golf5+6 and touran, paint problems in other models etc made me turn into Hyundai Ioniq and ev...
salil sawarim I had a Golf or Rabbit R32 with corrosion under the frontdoors. But from the technical side it was a very good car. But I went back to a car from the PSA-Groupe.
11:41 petrol engine 150HP + electric motor 75HP = 225HP not 205HP the petrol engine is at 130HP also the infortainment system has also hand gesture control.
Incorrect. Nominal brake horse power do not get summed for a variety of reasons: availability at different rpms, electronics to adjust handling and slipping, transmission, etc.
Yeah i drive an electric car, no Plug-in-hybrid. :)) But if a Plug-In-Hybrid then it should make more than 60km in electric mode. Better than Plug-in-hybrid cars are REEVs, thats Electric Cars with gasoline-generator like the i3 REX. But its more for the People with "range-anxiety".
Great review guys, I really like your presentation style.... Can you guys please do a 2017 super luxury sedan comparison with following cars 1. S class 2. 7 Series 3. Quattroporte 4. Panamera Executive 5. Audi A8
Autogefühl,thank u for ur rply....yes i have watched almost every videos of you...but never seen a comparison review....especially with new quattroporte...
Actually it doesnt make the biggest difference to watch them all in a single way, because the only thing that would change is that they are physically present at the same time :)
GTD yes is colser to diesel but since the Dieselgate scandal volkswagen will ditch the diesel engines in favor of more cleaner and silent petrol-hybrids or full ev.. the e-Golf don't even come close to the GTi, GTE & GTD sporty interior trims and material quality and finishes, e-Golf is more like a basic Golf that comes with full LED head+rear lights and a digital dash and that is about it the level of comfort is much more harsh in e-Golf with hard plastics to sawe weight for the bigger battery and not even alloy pedals and the sporty leather steering wheel like the GT models, outside from town you will always check being worry how much further you can travel with the charge since is limited to 122-124 miles (~200km only) in town is ok but on long journey that is not quite enough.. for now the GTE is among the best options in the market for the hybrid sector ! ;)
I’ve explained it a couple of times in our reviews, the engine check light is ALWAYS on in every single vehicle of the Volkswagen corporation brands when the ignition is turned on. This is to show that the light itself does work. As soon as you start the engine for real, the flash disappears. You only have a problem when the check engine light goes on when the engine is running.
This chap is pleasant to watch. Although I get the feeling that Volkswagen could have given him a Daewoo Espero covered in dog shit and sesame seeds with a VW badge and he would tell you how lovely it is.
Bought an 18 month old 37k (previous owner must have spent life on the road) advance model like Brian has here for £20k so pretty cheap and I only do 3k a year in it so high mileage will dissipate in 3 yrs
Can't wait for this kind of technology to get cheaper, the GTE is about 15K EUR more than the regular Golf in my country and the government gives about 600 EUR for buying hybrid cars :(
Brian is correct. The GTE as well as the GTI uses 6-speed DSG. GTI Performance and Golf R use 7-speed DSG. You can also confirm with the Volkswagen configurator if you dont believe us www.volkswagen.de/app/konfigurator/vw-de/de/der-golf/30315/38150/gte?page=engine

All Golf experience is ver similar? Base manual, and R with 7-speed DSG similar? Brian nice guy, but no so detail as Thomas. But love Autogefuelh vids.
Don't get these hybrid cars at all. Sure you get some Km from the battery but their weight is a handicap. It's like lugging a 100 Kg invisible friend around with you everytime you drive off.
TheMister Mann good for people who want to run it on electric most of the time but also need to do some motorway journeys. The fact it can recharge its battery without needing to be plugged in is also good news as still not very many charging points.
i really liked the editing and music when you showed the exterior and interior

Hi Brian. That was a great review and general education about hybrids. Many thanks. Oh, by the way, don't forget to say "LET'S GO" in your reviews!!!😆

0:00 Hiiiiii, i´m Brian, welcome to oootogefuuhl ... 😂😂 😆😆😉
oh thats mean ! :b
but funny ;D
Thomas has to endure "you are guilty of being a non-native English speaker"-trolls, Brian has endure "oootoogefuuhl"-trolls ;-)
nothing for ungood, Sponge over , love his reviews
Your English is fantastic, Thomas. Trust me, I'm an English teacher... 👍🏾
thanks pal tell that to the Germans who are complaining =)
The print of these seats remind me of my grandma's chairs 😁 great review as always though.
Bonito paisaje, ha hecho que me fije más que en el coche. ¿ Qué lugar es?
Very happy with my GTE kick very fast
Great work Brian looking forward to seeing more of your video reviews with Autogefuhl.
will do thanks !
BRIAN !!! Love your work!!!!
Great Review Brian !!
thanks dean!
Hi Brian. Great review. Now i just had to place an order for one. Can't wait till it arrives.
nice choice man!
Do you Like it?
Finally English language review for all the cars we'll never get !
+Jacana Productions 👍👍👍
Is it possible to export/import one into the USA 🇺🇸? It’s not available here. Love this car.
It is really attractive and absorbing review I ever see,
Quick look at the VW configurator. In the shown configuration almost 50.000€. A lot of money for a Golf...
plug-in hybrids are still too expensive ;_; people will continue buying a lot of diesels in europe, even with this new "diesel crisis" or whatever is going on around here.

Definitely ordering a Mercedes now!

interesting thought, I think you are right. But its the same with a normal combustion engine, you should never hammer throttle at cold start
Of course you shouldn't take an engine up to the red line straight from start up. Superb in depth review again. thanks. The centre nav screen looks too low.Almost making you go for the digital dash.
appreciated !
Does the DCC option on the Golf GTE make the ride quality better than the standard suspension? I have heard that because of the batteries, the suspension had to be stiffened and hence the ride quality is sacrificed.
Absolutely fantastic review!
thanks stick with us!
Love Brian !
that's the model we should have get in Canada, not the e-golf with low range specially during winter season...
So gasoline engine won't start even after the cold night?
I have a weird question for you: what is the format/speed etc. you shot this in? I like the way it looks!
but you should I use economy mode or E mode
I love egolfs this one is so much better
Great review, this model is on my company car list , test drive booked but have to wait until August, company car tax one of the cheapest. The other model on my list is the Mini Countryman S E All4 PHEV , perhaps you can review and test drive this when available 👍🏻
+Daz Drum thanks! We have two countryman reviews, youtube search them with autogefuehl
19:48 "I miss the old knobs" haha! :D

thanks! I guess we can answer to most of your questions "yes".
It does regenerate in different modes or also while braking
Thanks.
-So there is no dedicated storage space for the charge cables?
-Time to recharge?
-Regen feel compared to Chevy Volt/Opel Astera(sic)?
No there is not. Time to charge: depends on with what u charge. The regen feel you can adjust how much u want.
What a great review
thanks, recommend us!
Hi, Autogeful! Could you do a review of the VW Passat GTE as well?:)
I hope you can do it in the VW Passat estate GTE:)
We do have that, youtube search Autogefuehl passat gte
Plug-In hybrids like the Golf GTE are actually for me the best solution to combine e-mobility with utility value because the big brands still need some time until we can buy “real” electric cars (VW I.D.) !! 👌
There are so much reviews coming up 😱👍
Hi Brian. Im a big fan of Thomas, but you are doing a damn good job too, mate !!
thanks !!
you are welcome.
As you would expect
Hi Brian! Thomas said that the SQ7 review was a week away about two weeks ago... lol. Any updates?
hey man, the SQ7 has been online for long time: ua-cam.com/video/bPdvgENUZ1I/v-deo.html
and SQ5 has been shot and is in editing now :)
Ah yes! Sorry. I meant SQ5. 👍🏾 Thanks!
8:45 GTE mode is NOT hybrid mode.
Can you get a GTE with a moonroof?
sure
I can have at this money Kia Niro full equipped and it's hybrid plus crossover style.
Hey man. I think, sometimes you play on drums in Red Fang

Bwoaah spotted at 18:52 ;)
they should’ve brought the GTE to america instead of the e-golf. maybe they will with the golf 8
11:41 petrol engine 150HP + electric motor 75HP = 225HP not 205HP the petrol engine is at 130HP
also the infortainment system has also hand gesture control.
Incorrect. Nominal brake horse power do not get summed for a variety of reasons: availability at different rpms, electronics to adjust handling and slipping, transmission, etc.
Looks like you can't fit a large suitcase in boot
Sad that the GTE hasn't gotten a bigger battery... 40 real km is not much...
It already has two powertrains and is pretty heavy. Plug-in hybrids never made sense.
Yeah i drive an electric car, no Plug-in-hybrid. :))
But if a Plug-In-Hybrid then it should make more than 60km in electric mode. Better than Plug-in-hybrid cars are REEVs, thats Electric Cars with gasoline-generator like the i3 REX. But its more for the People with "range-anxiety".
You need to be aware - GTE mode is the most inefficient mode to use, when he says GTE mode is the most efficient, I'm assuming he means HYBRID mode.
Great review guys, I really like your presentation style....
Can you guys please do a 2017 super luxury sedan comparison with following cars
1. S class
2. 7 Series
3. Quattroporte
4. Panamera Executive
5. Audi A8
We have reviewed all those cars, just youtube search "autogefuehl bmw 7 series" etc. you ll find every review!
Autogefühl,thank u for ur rply....yes i have watched almost every videos of you...but never seen a comparison review....especially with new quattroporte...
Actually it doesnt make the biggest difference to watch them all in a single way, because the only thing that would change is that they are physically present at the same time :)
No reviewers mention how much energy is taken from the grid to charge the PHEV. It's neither fish nor fowl! Prefer e-Golf or TDI
GTD yes is colser to diesel but since the Dieselgate scandal volkswagen will ditch the diesel engines in favor of more cleaner and silent petrol-hybrids or full ev.. the e-Golf don't even come close to the GTi, GTE & GTD sporty interior trims and material quality and finishes, e-Golf is more like a basic Golf that comes with full LED head+rear lights and a digital dash and that is about it the level of comfort is much more harsh in e-Golf with hard plastics to sawe weight for the bigger battery and not even alloy pedals and the sporty leather steering wheel like the GT models, outside from town you will always check being worry how much further you can travel with the charge since is limited to 122-124 miles (~200km only) in town is ok but on long journey that is not quite enough.. for now the GTE is among the best options in the market for the hybrid sector ! ;)
Why O Why can't we have this car in Canada?
You have cheap petrol?=)
you have Linus Sebastian. Trade?
should have paused the recording and let the ac run for 10 min.
VW, please bring this to North America. The A3 etron is horrible!
runforit420 They're the same car.
7:40 engine warning?

You only have a problem when the check engine light goes on when the engine is running.
Autogefühl Ahh I see! Thanks for the explanation. I should've noticed it being off when driving but I was just so entranced by the review!
you re welcome!
Fuel tanks in trunks? Think ford pinto. Humm
very good
This chap is pleasant to watch. Although I get the feeling that Volkswagen could have given him a Daewoo Espero covered in dog shit and sesame seeds with a VW badge and he would tell you how lovely it is.
That is why people don't buy hybrid vehicles because they are too expensive.
Bought an 18 month old 37k (previous owner must have spent life on the road) advance model like Brian has here for £20k so pretty cheap and I only do 3k a year in it so high mileage will dissipate in 3 yrs
Can't wait for this kind of technology to get cheaper, the GTE is about 15K EUR more than the regular Golf in my country and the government gives about 600 EUR for buying hybrid cars :(
It will never geat cheaper because such cars basically have two powertrains and you have to pay for both of them.
good luck
Very cheap company car tax on these, that's the winner for me.
You never charge the battery while driving. Fool
The hybrid system repairs bill will make you
Shit balloons 🎈
Tiptronic??? lol
K
It's a 7 speed. Not 6 speed
Brian is correct. The GTE as well as the GTI uses 6-speed DSG.
GTI Performance and Golf R use 7-speed DSG.
You can also confirm with the Volkswagen configurator if you dont believe us
