While others are doing absolutely nothing during eastern, (and the other reason), Mr Haduck go outside and lift huge stones. Then he rock face them with human big sledgehammer, grinder and other tools. He exercises while making a video for all of us. Great Sir.
They just made the walls thicker. The Washington Monument has No steel in it, but the walls are like 15 feet thick at the bottom, and tapers down to about 2 to 3 feet thick at the top. If they built it today with steel rebar and grout they could build it with 18 to 24 inch thick walls from top to bottom.. and it won't be as strong as the original but it will be 'strong enough'😉
Thank you for the video, I have always wanted to learn exactly how they did this in the Southwest. A lot of the old masons passed on and only a few talked about it but not in this much detail. Thank you again
I love the stonework on the church shown at about 9:40 into the video, with rock-faced but randomly shaped stones. With admirably tight joints. Perhaps you'd consider making a video showing how such stones could be shaped. Thanks for all of your videos.
Mike, that pitching tool of yours reminds me of a time I removed a brick and mortar wall with a 3 pound rock hammer, and a chisel with a mushroom head like yours. One strike of the thousands needed broke off a piece of metal that was like a bullet, putting a deep cut and bruising right through heavy leather gloves. Pull out that grinder wheel, and fix that mushroomed chisel before it shoots a hot piece of tool grade steel at you or others.
Thanks again for making these videos there are some nice old buildings in that area wood of loved to have done more stone work as I really enjoyed it me da wood say to me every stone has a home 👍👍

Hey Mike great video. I wonder if you could go into more detail about how and when to use the chisel sideways? I feel like it's really important because I've ruined a few good stones by accidentally taking off too much and the whole back comes off.
You have to practice a lot. Don't be timid or afraid to make a mistake. If the stone doesn't shape right keep working it or take another one. Buy a lot more stone than you think you will need for a job. If you are working a special stone to fit a repair, that is more difficult. Have a real heavy board or table to work on often helps. Like Mike said, fresh quarried stone works best. Hope that helps. JIM

How the temple was built is described in ancient text: 1 Ki 6:7 "And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built."
@@MikeHaduck I think it is an allegory of stones referred by Peter in This portion of Scripture :1 Pe 2:1-9 2 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. The Chosen Stone and His Chosen People 4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, "Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame." 7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone," 8 and "A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed. 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; So, we are stones too, of His choosing, a royal edifice for habitation of the Spirit, and to reflect His praises. The quarry is the refining of dressing like you do in your own place of removing defects of that which will not serve in the purpose you build it for.

Too bad no demonstrations exist showing copper tools cutting/shaping granite (except by abrasion), Or stone tools that don't take weeks for inches...or leave the kind of tool marks that we actually see. Where are the tools, the flint tools you say were used? What you show is accurate...it just does not show how some of the ancient work was achieved.
@@MikeHaduck Don't you know that you can't prove a negative? it is a law of logic that a rational mind can NOT disregard. Failing an attempt disproves the claim...with EVIDENCE.
