    So glad I’ve found this video. I drove 125 miles yesterday mainly motorway and my golf 1.6tdi went into limp mode a mile from home. Managed to get an OBDII reader and confirmed p0201 code.
    Now just got to sell a kidney to fund the new injector- cheapest (only one) available is £505 and that’s with a 45% discount 😢😲.
    Watching this video has given me the confidence to replace it myself. Just have to source the kit to recode the ECU

    A very thorough job done, Cleaning out the old seals & seats for the replacement injectors, good that you thought to test the replacement injector, before fitting into the engine, and it showed no fault lights or codes. I not sure if most mechanics would go to the trouble. Very good. You should work for VW. My car has done 80,000 so may need to do that job in the near future. Well Done.

      When you say "code the injector" do you mean just clearing the fault on the car with the code reader or actually programming the part?

    • @TheKeenMechanic
      @TheKeenMechanic  2 роки тому +1

      @@kbpower4086 It is not called programming, it is called coding. I explain it in great detail in the video. You need to code the injector in order to tell the computer the calibrating values of the injector so it knows the tolerances. You can clear the faults after the job is done. Hope this helps

    Hello. For info I think after doing research that humidity must participate in the failure of the piezo. On my injectors and especially the broken one, the top was quite rusty.
    I found this:
    Humidity is a serious piezo killer
    High humidity, e.g. 85% RH is a serious condition, which shorten the life of the actuator. Make sure that humidity level is kept low - best is hermetically sealed applications. Consult Noliac if actuators must work at high humidity.

    Great video, thank you for this. I seems to have a similar problem on my Skoda Fabia 1.6 tdi cayb - P0204 injector circut error.
    I did the resistance check and weird thing happened. I ran the test twice. First time coil 1,2, 3 - 200kOMs, coil 4 - close to 0. Second run - all coils close to 0...The time between the tests was like 10 minutes and I did not start the engine in between. What can be the reason for that? Should this test be run under pressure?
    I also did the second testing with unplugging the wiring on the injectors while engine is running. To my surprise, however I am not an expert on mechanics, I think when unplugging each injector the engine seemed to be suffering. I did not observe that unplugging injector 4 would have no effect on the engine.
    Not sure where to go from here.

    • @TheKeenMechanic
      @TheKeenMechanic  4 роки тому +1

      Hi
      Thanks for watching my video. Don't worry. I will help you with this. If you have P0204 and no other faults then your other injectors are ok for now. The fact that you can still start the engine means that most injectors are working. Your problem is clearly your injector 4. It is good you did all the testing that I have shown in the video to help me determine the problem. When reading the resistance in OHMS it can happen that if your test leads don't have good contact you can get different readings. I would say you can replace the injector 4 and even before installation plug it in in the electric socket as I did show to see if it will clear the fault. This will save you some work in case you buy a faulty injector. If buying used injector from a breaker make sure you bring your multimeter with you and test the resistance before you pay. The Keen Mechanic thank you for prompt answer! I am planning to do the injector 4 change, but what I am trying to do is to isolate the problem first. And I struggle to understand, if the injector 4 is the problem, why when unplugging it, the engine is clearly struggling. I assume that if it gone bad, there would be no impact on the engine when unplugging it.
      Few days ago I also visited local mechanic and he also tested the coils only and with use of his device his opinion was that all coils are basically dead. I am struggling to believe that all went bad at the same time. Did that ever happen to you? I just redid the resistance test and the multimeter shows 0.00 on all coils when stabilizing the leads. I am worried that even if I replace the injector 4, the problem will stay 😢
      The engine is working fine when starting with everything plugged. Is it possible that problem is somewhete else? EGR valve or DPF?

      Hi
      This is very unusual indeed. If the engine starts than your injectors are ok. The piezo elements (coils) are also good too otherwise the injectors won't work and engine wont start. Please check all your wiring as this is very unusual. Even if the piezo elements (coils) are faulty in all my cases I was still getting some readings (never 0) I know that these engines suffer from EGR problem and I did fix this years ago but unfortunately I don't remember what fault code I got. Check all cables and also all fuses first. Don't give up easily as you just need to think logically. Clearly your fault is electrical and you can isolate other issues. Check on youtube for the egr issue, if I remember correctly it was the little moving arm that gets clogged and damaged and won't move the flap inside. In my case I just blocked the EGR and ordered a chip online to eliminate the faults on the dash and never had issues ever again with the EGR. This was the easy fix as these EGRs are water cooled and very hard to access if you decide to replace it with a new one. Let me know how you progress buddy. Hope this helps

      Not 100% sure mate, but I know the engine regenerates by raising the heat by injecting more fuel. If your injector is not working correctly may be it is not helping with the temperature increase but again this is just me thinking outloud. Do an indepth research online or ask a local injector specialist

Do you know anything about the life exepectancy off this spare part when tey are new (original VW make).? THX in advance for your answer :-) :-)

      Hi and thanks for your detailed message. Sorry for the late reply, still at work although I will try to answer your good questions as best as I can. It is very sad that these piezo injectors fail suddenly and without any warning you are stuck on the road. This happened to the car owner of the 1.6tdi golf 2009 I recorded the video on. The car lost cyl 3 error P0203. The owner didn't have breakdown recovery and drove 60miles (100km) on 3 cylinders. I replaced the faulty injector with an used injector at £70-75 if I remember correctly. I am not sure how much a local garage will charge for this job but the price of a brand new genuine injector is about £280.
      You can buy new injector on autodoc.co.uk Ridex brand for £180 but I am not sure what the warranty is for the ridex one. Used injector normally sells for under £100. Refurbished injector is from 109 to £150 but the refurbished injectors have used piezo element and only the metal parts have been cleaned and refurbished. There is a guy who left a link on my video and he is based in the Czech Republic. He sells new piezo elements for 112 euro, but if you change the piezo element then you have to calibrate the injector in a professional shop on the bench. The best advice is to buy new injector or used from a very low mileage car, if you can guarantee the low mileage. I have heard that these injectors last about 150 to 200.000km but I have seen cars with less or more. The problem in most cases is the piezo element and not blockages hence it creates the P0201 to P0204 electrical faults. The labour for this job should not take more than 1hr including all diagnostics, injector coding and everything else. I would never charge the customer more than £50-60 for this job but I am private guy and the garages charge over 70-80 per hour. In my opinion a fair price for this job with labour and new genuine injector should not cost more than €380. Hope this helps

      Just to add: this seems to be more common on the 1.6tdi engine although it happens with the 2.0 too. I have a 2.0tdi cr with 140k miles and no issues so far thank god🙏 The used injector that I replaced on this car only lasted 7000 miles and the owner came back again and replaced it with a new one this time. It is recommended that you code them but for a short period of time just to check if everything is working it should be fine. It is very hard to get used injectors for a good cheap price as this is a common fault and they are very sought after. I would advise you to do a back leak test first to check for blockage then if ok, look for other issues. You can buy a cheap kit online and try to do it yourself if you are confident. Can a bad 1.6 105 injector be repaired?

    • @TheKeenMechanic
      @TheKeenMechanic  2 роки тому

      Yes, but only by a professional injector specialist. Every injector needs to be bench tested and calibrated. The piezo element also needs to be replaced by a specialist. Not much can be done at home without special equipment. You have 3 options:
      New
      Used
      Professionally Rerurbished

    Thank you, great job. Just a question, in case the injectors resistances are all good, how do you check the connectors? I mean, with ignition on or off, and what's the correct resistance to measure on the connectors/wiring loom? Thanks.

    Why does this problem happen is due to the injection become clogged up ?

    • @TheKeenMechanic
      @TheKeenMechanic  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, the problem is electrical and is in the injector electrical circuit. Unfortunately here in Northern Ireland nobody is able to repair the injector coil as it is probably very time consuming and it is more practicable to replace it with an used or brand new injector. I have been told that it should help if you remove the plastic engine cover to keep the injectors cooler as they fail electrically potentially due to overheating. I replaced injector 3 with an used injector and at the time I removed the engine cover to see if this helps and 1 year later no problems, so may be it is just me being lucky, but the engine is small and not very noisy, so there is no increased noise in the car with the engine cover off in my opinion.

      From the fault I can tell that it is cylinder number 1. Check your wiring thouroughly. If the wiring appears good then if you have the tools and skills swap cylinder 1 injector with cylinder 2 injector and see if you get P0202. If you do then the problem is in the injector most likely. Injectors are held in pairs 1 and 2, 3 and 4 with 1 clamp and bolt so just swap 1 and 2.

Garage I first took it to said egr code was coming up, so took it to a diesel specialist who didnt plug it in & tested the injectors instead and said that's the problem. Then took it to auto electricians to sort out abs look, in receiving it back he said he plugged his box in and egr valve fault.
