- Thousands of dead fish covered the shores of Hakodate in northern Japan, drone footage captured by an eyewitness showed on Thursday (December 7).
Hakodate city officials said in a statement on Thursday that a large number of sardines and other fish had been spotted on a beach in Hamacho, Toi district, adding that the cause of the mass fish deaths was unknown.
The statement urged residents not to bring the dead fish home.

In 2021, 82 trillion becquerels of tritium were released into the ocean from the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant in the United States, 112 trillion becquerels from Yangjiang nuclear power plant in China, 756 trillion becquerels from the Bruce nuclear power plant in Canada, and 10000 trillion becquerels from the La Hague reprocessing facility in France. This time, the amount of tritium released from the Fukushima nuclear power plant is 22 trillion becquerels. These are just examples; things like this happen all over the world.

If there's not enough aquatic plants in this area of Japan vast quantities of fish will have depleted oxygen levels. This is pretty common.
