This film was visually overpowering, and artfully done in a way that left me breathless for much of it. Was the story inspired by Chinese mythology? I hope that it taught me more about ancient China. I very much like the actors. Thank you so much for all your hard work and creativity.

+Trash Dove If you see it as "white washed" you missed the greatest aspect of the movie! He is a mercenary that has a change of heart through being exposed to their culture, friendship and eventual trust.

It wasn't white washed. I'm Asian. Damon's character was a mercenary from Europe, traveling the silk road to China in search of Black powder. The reveal of the wall is a mystery, thus it makes sense to see the story through the eyes of an outsider. The only really legitimate criticism is that Matt Damon can't credibly portray a medieval man. He can't pull of historical characters. He's just too much Good WIll Hunting/Jason Bourne. He doesn't feel like anything OTHER than an American who is out of place in either Europe OR ASia.
