Hikari means light in English and in this reveal the light was the life source for the fighters. Without it they turned into lifeless statues. Sora's life light saved Smash.
I also wanna point out that the opening lyrics to Lifelight can be lined up with the events in the trailer. “Colors weave into a spire of flame” -The flaming Smash Bros logo and everything it represents “Distant sparks call to a past still unnamed” -The remaining sparks of the extinguished smash logo show that there’s still one more fighter left, and they still need to be revealed after spending so much time being unnamed. This makes even more sense in Sora’s case because he was the character that actually won the Smash ballot, but that information was never revealed to the public for 6 whole years. “Bear this torch against the cold of the night” -Mario picks up the fire and throws it, and it turns into the keyblade. “Search your soul and reawaken the undying light” -The flames form into the Keyblade, which summon Sora and with him, reawakens the light, freeing all the Smash characters from being trophies.
I laughed at them, said it was impossible, didn’t hate the character, nor the fans, but said it was impossible. October 5,2021 I sit there with nothing but a smile seeing the dream that so many people wanted to come true actually happen. Congratulations Sora fans, against all the odds, your hopes and dreams actually made it happen. You all deserve this happiness you feel right now. Something about Disney being the last one on that list of all the companies that collaborated with Nintendo right next to Mojang cracks me up. Not a KH fan but the music sounds fantastic
I’d heartily (heh) recommend listening to the soundtracks of the other KH games, if nothing else. They’re the glue that holds everything together and are Yoko Shimmomura’s best works.
Just imagine telling someone when Smash 4 first came out that "yeah, you're gonna be able to fight with Sora from kingdom hearts and steve from minecraft in the next one". They'd look at you like you were out of your mind. And yet, here we are.
Yoko is a goddess queen. I remember going to the orchestra in New York City and she attended it. Came out on stage to talk to us and someone in the crowd (over the shouting) screamed "I LOVE YOU MOM" and Yoko laughed and nearly broke down crying after that when speaking. She's just wonderful
Imo… I think it is THE most iconic moment in gaming history. Mario who’s been there since 1999 finally shaking Sora’s hand with the entire roster there cheering for him in 2021 was the perfect way of saying goodbye. Super Smash Brothers was not a game… It was an *ERA*
Sora’s reveal was just magical, like Classic Disney!!! Even the way his reveal was animated felt like Disney!!! I went ballistic when I saw the Mickey Symbol. I couldn’t believe it finally happened. The licensing must’ve been a nightmare. But the payoff was so worth it!!! Sakurai and his team did the impossible!!! No other fighting game was able to put Sora in except for Smash. I may have been hyped for K. Rool, for Ridley, and for Banjo-Kazooie. But Sora was just the perfect reveal, and the perfect sendoff to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!!! WHAT A TIME TO BE A KINGDOM HEARTS FAN!!! #ThankyouSakurai!!!! And if they somehow read this, thank you Cute Mario Bros. for getting me into Kingdom Hearts.
well there was originally meant to be a kh fighting game, but it became dissidia final fantasy after disney said they cant use any of the disney original characters, only the KH ones, disappointing, i know, but i am SO HAPPY THAT SORA GOT IN, I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR LIKE 6 AND A HALF YEARS EVER SINCE THE FIRST DLC FOR SMASH 4 WAS REVEALED
I feel like this song just solidified the feeling of this is the last character during the reveal I honestly loved the reveal even though I am not a huge kingdom hearts fan I did play a little bit as a kid and hearing this song just struck a chord with me during the reveal.

One of my best Friends passed away in June and was a giant KH Fan. He hoped for Sora in Smash since DLCs for the game was announced and we lost our hope with each fighter that wasn't Sora. But now his wish got fullfilled even when he is not here anymore. My inner self cried when the music played in the reveal trailer.
The Sora reveal was probably the most bittersweet thing that I will ever see. I have never felt such tremendous joy and sorrow at the same time. This isn't just the end of Ultimate, it feels like the end of the Sakurai era. This very well could be the final smash game Sakurai works on. I've been playing my entire life since 64. And to just it come to end in the most perfect way I could imagine. It's just bittersweet, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you Sakurai.
After the garbage and trainwreck that was Kingdom Hearts 3… I thought this franchise was off to be at its worst and will never be as magical as it was years before… But after being placed into Super Smash Bros, I have finally let go of my hatred and pain… and accepted and smiled for my childhood hero to finally be in one of the biggest video game crossovers of all time

Just when all the smash characters felt, thinking they’ll just be one of a million, sora flew in and showed them despite not being the best, you can still have a big grin on your face and do things you never imagined.
This orchestral version is simply the best, it makes me cry. It's haunting, it's beautiful, it's melancholic, it's hopeful, it's epic... It's everything. One of the greatest songs in gaming.

@@nalonauts559 I would follow the order of release, if you play through the compilations I’d say play them in order shown on the comps, so 1.5 first, 2.5, 2.8, and then 3. The game timeline is different but they piggy back off the revelations shown in prior releases for example birth by sleep is the first in the timeline but I’d say shouldn’t be played first.
I been playing kingdom hearts since I was 8 years old. This game series no matter how much I grew up and how many other games I played always stuck dear to my heart. I remember when I first played smash bros brawl and I joked to my friends “how freakin cool would it be if sora came to smash?” But secretly I hoped it wouldn’t be a joke and I wished maybe someday he would be in another smash game. After years went by and many other dlc characters came I decided to just let go of my dream. I watched the direct today fully expecting someone like crash and doom guy to be the final dlc. But when I saw that key blade and that Mickey Mouse keychain, I LITERALLY yelled at the top of my lungs “HES HERE!!!! HES FINALLY HERE!!!!!” I’m not lying when I say I was crying a little bit. Sora is just one of my favorite characters in gaming and seeing him arrive with Hikari playing in the background was one of my favorite video game moments of all time. I absolutely cannot wait to play him in smash. Is it too soon to say he’s my new main? (Sorry joker)

I think the best part about Sora in smash and just as a character is really the essence of wonder he brings. The magic of childhood and connecting with the world around you through friends, movies, or in this special case, video games. His spot as the capstone of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, A celebration of a long spanning gaming history and the joy its brought to so many people, is truly beautiful. Couldn't ask for a better fit! (I wish this song was actually available in the game though lmaooo)
Hence why I’m also glad that Sora never faught or “killed” anybody in this trailer. He didn’t stab Super Mario, or sliced Link’s bomb in half or threatened to throw Kirby off a cliff… he came to give all the fighters a final goodbye and one last game together as a family. Actually, when Sora was revealed I was on a big depression, that when I arrived to my home, I saw the reveal again...and I started to cry because I couldn't believe that Sora made it, and my depression slowly was starting to fade away. It's kinda funny that I've ended up buying some keyblades (Kingdom chain and Oath Keeper) to use them on a pendant.

I'm here from the Smash direct. Hearing the music as Sora came through the key portal was so....epic. I felt so happy to be a part of such an amazing journey but so so sad that it was coming to an end.
Ok if THIS song hadn't played during his reveal I'd been ok but the literal second it started playing I got chills and goosebumps and then seconds later my eyes were wet! Like damn It's crazy how one song can make so many memories and emotions run over you at once. This series was a huge part of my childhood growing up. Sora, I'm happy to finally see you here.

Sora trailer has to be one or my favorite trailers ever he comes out and just flys around joyfully while everyone looks at him in awe no one tries fighting him or he doesn’t try fighting them it’s just so beautiful and pure
I used to think Sora wasn't much without Disney, but seeing that trailer I realized something. He truly is the perfect way to send this game off into the distance. He is literally light incarnate, the last gleaming ember of hope when everyone else has given up. He's just so happy and full of childhood wonder its astounding, I think that's why it's hard for most adults to get behind Kingdom Hearts. Because it's hard to remember being a kid again when our lives are so miserable now, but with Sora, he brings the kid back out of you and THAT is why he deserves to be their. "I'm always with you too, I'll come back to you! I promise!" "I know you will!" PS. I just want to point out the only reason Sora can, and always seems to be light as air is because Peter Pan taught him the secret to flying. Which is to think Happy Throughts, and knowing Sora you can imagine how simple flying would be for him.
I think that half of the reason why i can't really enjoy KH is that the Childish side of the games annoy me for some reason(and i'm not even an adult, i'm a teenager) and no i'm not talking about Disney I think that KH isn't bad as i say but for some reason this happen with me lol But i can't deny how much i hate KH script(Darkness, Darkness, Darkness, Light, Hearts, friendship, keyblade) and KH1(That game has a shit camera, some worlds are just boring mazes and overall is such a bad game, but KH2 is awesome)

A month later... I said it couldn't happen. Never played Kingdom Hearts, but I didn't hate the character. Over and over I said "He just can't. The mouse has too much of a hand over him". "We have so much SquareEnix already"... and then when we saw those famous 3 circles... I couldn't help but smile. Then this started playing. I was almost in tears. I had no feelings for him before hand, only knew him from the requests. Yet this felt like pure magic. Exactly like Classic Disney. After everything that was said about him in the presentation. Truly, nobody else could've ended this game more perfectly. Sure, characters like Crash and Master Chief could've have gotten close. But no character has been requested this much for this amount of time. I can't say it enough... #ThankYouSakurai

After KH3....I kinda fell out of Kingdom Hearts. Not to say it was bad, but it just didn't hit home for me. I would see Kingdom Hearts related things as time passed and wouldn't really care. I woke up at 4:00 AM my time for the direct. Anxious. Wondering who could be the last fighter, when I saw the last ember fall from the burning smash emblem I thought of Sora's cheesy line from KH1 "Deep down there's a light that never goes out." And kinda laughed. Mario grabbed that ember and tossed it with all his might to reveal the keyblade. I was speechless and in awe. Of all things...I was really happy. Seeing Sora come out of the Keyhole and hearing him laugh as he was flying around hit me. It made me remember what a kind and warm character Sora is. I want to play Kingdom Hearts again. My love for it has come back and stronger than it ever was I think. Thank you Sakurai for bringing back my love for Kingdom Hearts as well as the rest of the Smash team who spent countless hours making this possible. The people who wanted Sora in and supported him, partaking in the Smash ballot and getting your vote in. It counted and meant something. I've honestly never played Kingdom Hearts, but during the Sora reveal, this made me tear up as it felt so perfect for such a highly requested character, it felt epic and perfect for a conclusion
We don't become a different person over time, we just gain wisdom. Believe like you did in your childhood, love like you did in your childhood, and imagine as deeply you did in your childhood. If you do, I'm sure you will see that you and the kid who heard this song all those years ago are one in the same.
This is the character I’ve been wishing for since Smash 4. Words cannot express how ecstatic I was to just get out of work, open UA-cam, and see Sora holding Mario’s hand. I’m sure tons of people will be upset over this, but I’m equally sure there are many people overjoyed by his inclusion. He’s finally here!
This has always been my favorite KH song, and hearing it yesterday made me cry my eyes out 😭❤It feels like so, so long since I have felt the KH magic since the days of KH3 trailer reveals and before, and seeing the Smash trailer with Sora's happy face and laughter and this song, even though I don't even play Smash, was so overwhelmingly emotional and just... perfect. 🥺 He truly deserved that spot, and I was so overjoyed to see such a beautiful tribute to him, and Kingdom Hearts in general, after having felt unfortunate bitterness towards the series in recent years, and missing the old days. This is just what I needed... Thank you, Sakurai, and thank you to everyone who rooted for Sora all this time and never gave up hope...!

I’d heartily (heh) recommend listening to the soundtracks of the other KH games, if nothing else. They’re the glue that holds everything together and are Yoko Shimmomura’s best works.
Just imagine telling someone when Smash 4 first came out that "yeah, you're gonna be able to fight with Sora from kingdom hearts and steve from minecraft in the next one". They'd look at you like you were out of your mind. And yet, here we are.

It’s right up there with Cyclops from X-men shaking hands with Ryu from Street Fighter
Imo… I think it is THE most iconic moment in gaming history. Mario who’s been there since 1999 finally shaking Sora’s hand with the entire roster there cheering for him in 2021 was the perfect way of saying goodbye.

Sora’s reveal was just magical, like Classic Disney!!! Even the way his reveal was animated felt like Disney!!!
I went ballistic when I saw the Mickey Symbol. I couldn’t believe it finally happened. The licensing must’ve been a nightmare. But the payoff was so worth it!!!
Sakurai and his team did the impossible!!! No other fighting game was able to put Sora in except for Smash.
I may have been hyped for K. Rool, for Ridley, and for Banjo-Kazooie. But Sora was just the perfect reveal, and the perfect sendoff to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!!!

well there was originally meant to be a kh fighting game, but it became dissidia final fantasy after disney said they cant use any of the disney original characters, only the KH ones, disappointing, i know, but i am SO HAPPY THAT SORA GOT IN, I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR LIKE 6 AND A HALF YEARS EVER SINCE THE FIRST DLC FOR SMASH 4 WAS REVEALED
I feel like this song just solidified the feeling of this is the last character during the reveal I honestly loved the reveal even though I am not a huge kingdom hearts fan I did play a little bit as a kid and hearing this song just struck a chord with me during the reveal.

One of my best Friends passed away in June and was a giant KH Fan. He hoped for Sora in Smash since DLCs for the game was announced and we lost our hope with each fighter that wasn't Sora. But now his wish got fullfilled even when he is not here anymore. My inner self cried when the music played in the reveal trailer.

The Sora reveal was probably the most bittersweet thing that I will ever see.
I have never felt such tremendous joy and sorrow at the same time. This isn't just the end of Ultimate, it feels like the end of the Sakurai era. This very well could be the final smash game Sakurai works on.
I've been playing my entire life since 64. And to just it come to end in the most perfect way I could imagine. It's just bittersweet, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Hearing this during Sora’s trailer reminded me of when they announced Kingdom Hearts 3. The happiest I’ve been for any DLC character ever.

@@nalonauts559 I would follow the order of release, if you play through the compilations I’d say play them in order shown on the comps, so 1.5 first, 2.5, 2.8, and then 3. The game timeline is different but they piggy back off the revelations shown in prior releases for example birth by sleep is the first in the timeline but I’d say shouldn’t be played first.

I been playing kingdom hearts since I was 8 years old. This game series no matter how much I grew up and how many other games I played always stuck dear to my heart. I remember when I first played smash bros brawl and I joked to my friends “how freakin cool would it be if sora came to smash?” But secretly I hoped it wouldn’t be a joke and I wished maybe someday he would be in another smash game. After years went by and many other dlc characters came I decided to just let go of my dream. I watched the direct today fully expecting someone like crash and doom guy to be the final dlc. But when I saw that key blade and that Mickey Mouse keychain, I LITERALLY yelled at the top of my lungs “HES HERE!!!! HES FINALLY HERE!!!!!” I’m not lying when I say I was crying a little bit. Sora is just one of my favorite characters in gaming and seeing him arrive with Hikari playing in the background was one of my favorite video game moments of all time. I absolutely cannot wait to play him in smash. Is it too soon to say he’s my new main? (Sorry joker)

I think the best part about Sora in smash and just as a character is really the essence of wonder he brings. The magic of childhood and connecting with the world around you through friends, movies, or in this special case, video games. His spot as the capstone of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, A celebration of a long spanning gaming history and the joy its brought to so many people, is truly beautiful.

Hence why I’m also glad that Sora never faught or “killed” anybody in this trailer. He didn’t stab Super Mario, or sliced Link’s bomb in half or threatened to throw Kirby off a cliff… he came to give all the fighters a final goodbye and one last game together as a family. When Sora and Mario shook hands and the entire roster cheered for them… it was finally full circle.

Actually, when Sora was revealed I was on a big depression, that when I arrived to my home, I saw the reveal again...and I started to cry because I couldn't believe that Sora made it, and my depression slowly was starting to fade away.
It's kinda funny that I've ended up buying some keyblades (Kingdom chain and Oath Keeper) to use them on a pendant.

Hearing the music as Sora came through the key portal was so....epic. I felt so happy to be a part of such an amazing journey but so so sad that it was coming to an end.
Ok if THIS song hadn't played during his reveal I'd been ok but the literal second it started playing I got chills and goosebumps and then seconds later my eyes were wet! Like damn It's crazy how one song can make so many memories and emotions run over you at once. This series was a huge part of my childhood growing up. Sora, I'm happy to finally see you here.

Sora trailer has to be one or my favorite trailers ever he comes out and just flys around joyfully while everyone looks at him in awe no one tries fighting him or he doesn’t try fighting them it’s just so beautiful and pure
I used to think Sora wasn't much without Disney, but seeing that trailer I realized something. He truly is the perfect way to send this game off into the distance. He is literally light incarnate, the last gleaming ember of hope when everyone else has given up. He's just so happy and full of childhood wonder its astounding, I think that's why it's hard for most adults to get behind Kingdom Hearts. Because it's hard to remember being a kid again when our lives are so miserable now, but with Sora, he brings the kid back out of you and THAT is why he deserves to be their.

A month later...
I said it couldn't happen. Never played Kingdom Hearts, but I didn't hate the character. Over and over I said "He just can't. The mouse has too much of a hand over him". "We have so much SquareEnix already"... and then when we saw those famous 3 circles... I couldn't help but smile. Then this started playing. I was almost in tears. I had no feelings for him before hand, only knew him from the requests. Yet this felt like pure magic. Exactly like Classic Disney.
After everything that was said about him in the presentation. Truly, nobody else could've ended this game more perfectly. Sure, characters like Crash and Master Chief could've have gotten close. But no character has been requested this much for this amount of time.

After KH3....I kinda fell out of Kingdom Hearts. Not to say it was bad, but it just didn't hit home for me. I would see Kingdom Hearts related things as time passed and wouldn't really care. I woke up at 4:00 AM my time for the direct. Anxious. Wondering who could be the last fighter, when I saw the last ember fall from the burning smash emblem I thought of Sora's cheesy line from KH1
"Deep down there's a light that never goes out." And kinda laughed. Mario grabbed that ember and tossed it with all his might to reveal the keyblade. I was speechless and in awe. Of all things...I was really happy. Seeing Sora come out of the Keyhole and hearing him laugh as he was flying around hit me. It made me remember what a kind and warm character Sora is. I want to play Kingdom Hearts again. My love for it has come back and stronger than it ever was I think. Thank you Sakurai for bringing back my love for Kingdom Hearts as well as the rest of the Smash team who spent countless hours making this possible. The people who wanted Sora in and supported him, partaking in the Smash ballot and getting your vote in. It counted and meant something. Thank you as well.

As soon as I heard the first note play during Sora’s Smash reveal I immediately bawled my eyes out.
Me too and seeing Mario shaking Sora’s hand in the end was the most epic moment in gaming history.

I've honestly never played Kingdom Hearts, but during the Sora reveal, this made me tear up as it felt so perfect for such a highly requested character, it felt epic and perfect for a conclusion

This is the character I’ve been wishing for since Smash 4. Words cannot express how ecstatic I was to just get out of work, open UA-cam, and see Sora holding Mario’s hand. I’m sure tons of people will be upset over this, but I’m equally sure there are many people overjoyed by his inclusion. He’s finally here!

Sora and Mario shaking hands is something that will stick with me forever.
This has always been my favorite KH song, and hearing it yesterday made me cry my eyes out 😭❤It feels like so, so long since I have felt the KH magic since the days of KH3 trailer reveals and before, and seeing the Smash trailer with Sora's happy face and laughter and this song, even though I don't even play Smash, was so overwhelmingly emotional and just... perfect. 🥺 He truly deserved that spot, and I was so overjoyed to see such a beautiful tribute to him, and Kingdom Hearts in general, after having felt unfortunate bitterness towards the series in recent years, and missing the old days. This is just what I needed... Thank you, Sakurai, and thank you to everyone who rooted for Sora all this time and never gave up hope...!

It's as usual a licensing issue. Simple and Clean's rights are owned wholly by Utada and her license holder. Would be another slog to get that in.
