When I clicked on the link, I saw that I had already done it, but I still tried it again. I also recalled the name pattern, "Tatooine X", and the general shapes. There were "Tatooine Sunset" and "Tatooine Sunrise". One of those was the monster, and the other was supposed to be the easier version. I recall that Mark had done the monster by bifurcating furiously, and Simon redid the monster without bifurcation, but coloring furiously to show the swordfish. My solve: the corner green was my first digit, 9, naked after all the swordfish. I had to backtrack to check, but the other green was my second digit, 2, also naked after placing 9 and the swordfish. I lost count of the number of swordfish I found. For more than half, the given digits followed the "Slot Machine" pattern (as I understood it). I found a number of 34 and 23 pairs before the swordfish. I needed a few other helpful positions, such as a 2348 quad in row 1. Now to the video: 15:50 I tried to eliminate every possible elimination due to the swordfish. Following the swordfish, I was scared that I was inadvertently restoring an occasional elimination while filling out the grid. 16:40 Okay, the only reason I needed (and found) the quad was that I didn't check the consequences of placing the 2, resolving the 23 pair and all the other 3s, until later.
Great memory and great job, John! Tatooine sunset was the monster. And the puzzle here was featured on Rangsk’s channel a few months back which. Is where you might have solved it previously. Way to nail it with the 9 and 2 solves!
My first solution was 8@block 1, cell 5. I got it by gradually making the eliminations you showed in Block I. I've found that swordfish leave a telltale pattern in which each of two Snyder possibilities solves all of that digit in the puzzle, allowing you to achieve the same eliminations using simple coloring.
Really unbelievable sudoku!!... In my case, I found several swordfish but couldn't focus on which cells to put attention to to keep trying harder with this technique alone... Good job, Timberlake!!
My issue with knowing that a puzzle is solved with a swordfish has been knowing which number is the one involved. I usually spend way too much time setting up different numbers, only to find It's not the right one. Hopefully this video will help me to pinpoint the correct swordfish number earlier on.
Great feedback, Brad. With the swordfish, I try to point out what to look for in regards to given candidate placement (3 candidate givens, 1 in top, 1 in middle, 1 in bottom belt, and also split up by left, center, and right towers). Philip sets up many of his that way. Was that helpful?
Swordfish, swordfish everywhere! Beautiful puzzle! As soon as saw the 3's and 4's, I knew it was time to go fiishing! I found all the swordfish and Snyder-ed the remaining pairs, which left a naked 9 in the corner. But struggled to locate the 2. I had to center-mark the whole grid and revisit the fish before it reduced - I had forgotten the swordfish on 6'es because it didn't seem to help at first. Getting the cells you marked in green is key, it's all elementary strategy after that. Over an hour to solve, but I got it following exactly your line of reasoning. (Except that I walked through the final cleanup in a different order.)
couple of swordfishes lead me to an x wing, then it was downhill from there. great puzzle from mr newman and a younger sister to his other tatooine puzzle, one that is a bit harder to get 😊
Amazing puzzle Timberlake. Is this different to the tatooine sunset which also uses multiple swordfish? I am going on holiday today for a week so hope to catch up soon! Thanks as always for the excellent channel!
Yes it is, Jon! Philip made several variations of the Tatooine theme, each a slightly different looking puzzle. I have not featured this one before on the channel. Enjoy your holiday! My wife and I want to get out to England and Scotland some time next year.

Nice job finding the swordfish. Glad to hear that we had similar eliminations. Thank you for sharing.

Nice job finding the swordfish in this one. Do you feel the hour was well spent?
@@SmartHobbies it was fun
I should have been getting on with editing my iwm videos, though
@@ke9tv Maybe you should. I have fun making these videos.
Very smart ! Thank you very much Timberlake, I shall try to look for Swordfish more often now ☺
You are welcome Francoise. I am sure you will be really good at it.

When the swordfish leaves only 2 options I mark them Snyder.
Nice technique. Thanks for sharing.
