    Honestly, I don't know if I'm more excited about the house, or just that I don't have to live in airbnbs anymore. 😂
    Hopefully this is my first, and last, empty house tour on this channel! I hope you enjoy it! There will definitely be a lot more house related content on this channel in the future, and I'm so excited to turn this house from modern farmhouse vibes into "eccentric artist who loves whimsy and antiques" sort of house. (I asked the house, and she's very excited for this makeover.) 😂

      Maybe do both, but with the same color palette? Mid-Century Modern on Hubby's side of the office, and Arts and Crafts on yours, but with the same shades of green? That way you can both define each space as personal while also combine them as shared? Just a thought.

      I agree with the comment of meshing to two styles by using similar colors. My husband and I don't share office spaces so he gets to do what he wants in his gaming room and office on the 2nd floor, which are both dark spaces with heavy curtains and rich jewel tones (he's sorta a vampire LOL). While my space (pretty much all of the main living space is a mix of sunny windows, arts and crafts earth tones and vintage/bookish vibe. Our biggest compromise was my love of vintage items with his desire for all thinks modern / techy.

    Costumed affairs can conclude in the theatre. Edwardian to the late 1920s, guests will watch silent films. 1930's, It Happened One Night, King Kong, or Bringing up Baby. 1940's, Casablanca, Key Largo (note the 1940s Bogart theme here), Philadelphia Story. ...... You can get a popcorn sponsor !!! The benefit of not having natural lights in your filming room is that you can do the interviews anytime. Congratulations! One positive about the farmhouse style is that a lot of the decor probably won’t be that awful stuff that was in the 80s and 90s. And I know the theater room feels weird, but there are some movies that you’ll get to experience on the big screen for the first time! Just like folks originally did back in the day. We got to see the Wizard of Oz on a large movie screen (only previously seeing it on a tv) there were a lot of details that I noticed that I’ve never seen before, like the make up on the scarecrow‘s face has a texture. But PLEASE - whether filmed or not - do a tipsy Mystery Science Theatre with Chrissy and Nicole!

    Congratulations! It’s lovely! Great light and for a 90’s house, not too much weirdness. We bought a 90’s house about a year ago after living in older homes for most of our lives. It rocks! The plumbing and electrical all function, the walls are predictably made of plaster with studs. Our last house was plaster and lath, and before that, plaster with horse hair. First best unexpected feature was the internal vacuum system. Enjoy the new airy layout and all the cosmetic changes. I’m a lurker but have been watching you for years…heartfelt congratulations on your success and your new home. :-)

    • @AlexaFaie
      @AlexaFaie 2 роки тому

      What's an internal vacuum system? Not sure we have those over here (at least I've never heard the phrase before).
      I would still prefer a house prior to the 90s since that was when stuff really got a lot more cheaply produced so the houses became boring boxes and you rarely get proper internal walls any more. Older houses both the exterior and interior walls would be brick, but in newer builds the interior walls are sort of fake walls. Just plasterboard separated by wood frames. Not that it will be that hard since older houses are still the majority what with the whole running out of space to build new stuff. Like the house we're currently in would count as quite new since it was built in the 70s. Most the houses in the areas we're likely to move to when we've saved up enough to be able to go from renting to mortgage will be more in the 20s/30s build era, though plenty are earlier than that. Lots of late 1800s and turn of the century properties.

      @@AlexaFaie internal vacuum is often called central vacuum. We moved into a 1912 that was gut renovated and has central vac. There are pipes throughout the house that go to a vacuum in the basement. My kitchen and bathroom have little vents in the baseboards where you can sweep the garbage into and it gets sucked up. I don't use it -- a broom and a dustpan work fine for my house since we don't have carpet.

    I am envious, in the U.K. modern houses are small, and getting smaller, and outdoor space is minimal, off road parking is considered more important than a reasonably sized garden. We moved from a village in to town, as it meant, surprisingly, we got a more spacious house and a much bigger garden for our budget! I was thrilled to get a note from the people who bought our cottage, saying thank you for leaving the house so clean and as I had two young boys at the time, I think they were impressed. I can’t wait to see what you do with your new home and I wish you and yours much happiness there!

    Abby, I haven't watched this video yet, I will as soon as I am finished with this comment. I am literally still sobbing after watching your video from two years ago, Everyone Sucks at Sewing. I have sewn for most of my life. Not consistently, not always with support, not always well. But, it is an abiding part of my life. I have never, ever been happy with the products of my labor, ever. But after listening to your "rant", I can finally say, I am a sewist and am good at many things! There! Thank you, thank you, thank you. All of the feeling of inadequacy, self deprecation and despair at not achieving perfection have begun to fade. Of course I will still strive to do my utmost best, but now know that I am not alone. You, my dear one, are a wonder! Blessings on you. Now I get to watch about your new home!

    For the most part, I'd say there is no such thing as too much space; I am definitely not a tiny house person. Fortunately for me I trained myself not to fill up space with stuff just because the space was there. Your new house looks lovely and spacious, and your view is great.
    I don't have a gravity-fed iron yet, but years ago I got fed up with the iron cord dragging my fabric while I pressed. I solved that problem on the dirt cheap by using two decorative ceiling hooks mounted to a joist, with a soft, slippery rayon rope tied between them. The rope had easily adjustable loops at each end (no, not nooses, but I was tempted). I formed a loop over the rope at the outlet end of a fairly long extension cord, then another loop in the cord over the rope about half a metre along. The iron was plugged into the cord and the cord was, of course, plugged into the wall outlet. Every time I had to iron the loops simply slid along the rope, usually with a bit of help from me but that was no big deal.
    This would also work for a gravity-fed iron, if you're about to experience budget shock from the house purchase and everything else you need to do, and find an electrician's bill that one expense too much. The only concern is to make sure the extension cord is of sufficient amperage to handle your iron.

    Let’s start with saying congrats! Your new house looks lovely, truly. That said, I’m Italian, and in Italy just super-uber-mega rich people can afford houses that big, but I see from films that in the US it’s different, and it happens that average people can actually afford huge houses. That is to say that this hole concept of a huge house is very foreign to me, so my main question is: how do you clean it??? You need like a team of people! Because even if you have a maid or someone that come to clean your house, one person is definitely not enough! Because even if you don’t use a room a lot it’s bound to get dusty! I have this question for literally years, since I started living by myself, and I hated cleaning my tiny studio apartment, I always wondered how do they do in the US with the huge houses?

    • @brittanyagm

      Most Americans can't afford houses this big.

    • @mosselyn5081
      @mosselyn5081 2 роки тому +5

      Home sizes vary drastically in the US, so many people do not live in a home that is anywhere near this large. However, it's not necessarily as hard to keep clean as you imagine. It also depends on whether or not you have pets and/or kids as they can add a lot of chaos and dirt.
      When I was in high school, my family lived in a 3000 sq. ft. house for a few years, and my mom and I easily cleaned it every weekend in less than an hour. Not all rooms are equally used, so not all rooms take equally long to clean. Dusting an unused guest bedroom, for example, only takes a minute. If you already have the vacuum cleaner out, vacuuming the carpet in another room doesn't add much time. Dusting is quick if you don't put lots of knick knacks on every surface. Etc.

    • @mikaylaeager7942
      @mikaylaeager7942 2 роки тому +10

      Yeah. The average American can’t even afford to own a home at all, let alone something this big. That’s why we have an unconscionably large homeless population in the United States and children living with their parents into their 30s and beyond. However popular media would like you to believe that anyone could afford a place like this, which is probably where you get that idea from.
      American History Lesson: This house looks like a remnant of the 2000’s house bubble. When Americans were given massive predatory loans which they used to build McMasions like this. Then during the 2008 crash the banks foreclosed on millions of Americans, kicking them out of their homes and on to the streets and leaving all these enormous homes empty since no normal person could afford to live in them. My guess is that some investor probably bought it cheap after the crash, so they could flip it (aka sell it to another investor) which is why the interior design is so devoid of character or personality.
      As for your cleaning question… people who own houses this big hire other people to clean their house.
      I’m in no way trying to attack Abby personally here. She makes good money on UA-cam and she works hard, but she is not the average American.

      Ikr? By German standards, that's not a house, it's a villa. You would have to be very, very wealthy, to afford something like this. And then the costs for maintenance and heating and electricity and all that.
      I seriously thought, you needed like a Million+ subscribers, to make that kind of money.

    • @silverkyre

      Id like to point out it also depends on where you live. No idea how much they poaid for this home but where i live that house would cost millions but i live in a very expensive state. They live somewhere where it would cost much less. Either way most of us cant afford even a much smaller house much less one like hers. Very happy for her tho, just not something most people can afford

    Holy... I'm a pro interior designer and architect, and I'd killllll to be able to work on properties like this. Presoviet everything was dark tight (for poor,like my family)or overwhelmingly gilded and decorated (for those that sold out to russkies),now everything is all glass, cold,statuario marble(look-alikes). This...this is great. This already feels like a home, most of the properties I start work on could very well be made to imitate showroom or a store. This place has an AMAZING POTENTIAL,and with Your (and Nicole,and Crissy's) taste I'm sure it will be a masterpiece. Don't hesitate to contact a good interior designer when struggling, it'll still be "your"home but an experienced expert can save you a lot of headache on technical stuff and will help with details when you feel overwhelmed. That kitchen with a butcher's block countertops, updated hardware (reproduction,maybe?),handpainted tile backsplash...Though, to be honest it looks like builder grade kitchen and if you can,splurge for new one, better planned, with painted or not, but solid wood fronts and hidden appliances (exept for maybe contrast colour La Cornue stove? 🤤🤤❤️❤️❤️). Lowering the bar area and raising the doorways ( as currently, its the darkest space and as Abby said,dark spaces make you sad - science says do,even!) would not only let in more light and allow an eating-chatting nook to be added adjacently. Mixing styles is also something some of decorators specjalise in and it will save you a shit-ton of guesswork and arguments. It's a beautiful home,Abby, but not as beautil as your soul,heart,and humour. I hope with so much space your adopted (or even foster) dog family will grow too, isn't there a sound more beautiful than dwo dozen paws rushing to greet you?😍😍😍 With these cleaning robots that can even mop ( at leeast they promise to), "most" of the mess will take care of itself 😉 Just bring fabric swatches home to assure they arent supermagnets for underfuf,like my beautiful merlot corduroy wingback chair was.... I'm so,so happy for ya'll ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

    I love the new house and your vision for it! From a purely practical standpoint, I am thrilled that your new house has basement. My time living in Bloomington and in the Ohio River Valley, means that you’re going to get a ton of tornadoes. Maybe not compared to Tornado Alley, or even Dixie Alley. But enough that you would want to have a place where you can all comfortably be safe when the sirens go off. I was surprised by the number of storms that dipped in flowed through the Ohio River Valley, and a few of my apartments did not have a safe place to be. So I am happy that you guys will have that safer option.

    Gosh, a home this size where i live in the U.K. would cost at least a million pounds. I would LOVE a walk in wardrobe, and I like the roof shape in your master bedroom. It gives it character. I’d be decorating it in Cole and Sons/Morris and Co/Saundersons wallpaper , with panelling on the bottom. Oh and have a wall with a mural of flowers. Your living room is gorgeous, and the view into the woods is lovely, let’s hope there’s no Sasquatch in the area! I think your dogs like it too. William Morris/Arts and Crafts. And I totally like the Medieval vibe wannabe light fixture in the dining room. Put a dining table under it, and it's not too low. When I finally get around to redoing my tiny 780 sq/ft home, I'm going to forego any "living" room, because who sits on couches anyway, and dedicate that space to a huge, friendly, inviting dining table with office chair and bench seating. And! Medieval feast hall light fixture! So happy you found a house that works for you, and you're out of other people's houses.
